I have just created a web application which I believe is the 1st of itz kind. Please, give me an expert's opinion on how to go about patenting my product to avoid copyright infringements. Personal experiences on this subject matter will be highly appreciated.

Patenting in Nigeria. The people that will patent it for you are the ones that will steal it. Watch out.

Thanks, afam. But are you saying that patenting is totally hopeless in Nigeria? What in your opinion, is the way forward?

Zend Encoder, Ioncube, PHPCipher. . .  the list is too long.

Knock off the grammar "patent" and replace it with "license" tongue

His problem is not encrypting it.

He wanna register it as a Copyright. So even his Host will not be able to steal it.

@Poster. What kind of software is it self. **Donpuzo Brings out red substance, licks it ten times**Oya tell me.

@dual core: thanks a lot, i'll check 'em out. Itz patent I'm actually after.
@donpuzo: that red stuff is expired. It'll give you dysentry!

@everyone: See, it's like this. I developed this software on my own and a certain 'big' company would like to help me present it to a certain 'big' customer.
The 'big' customer is expected to pay abt =N=15m for a copy of this software.
Now, I was told by the 'big company' that since they are the ones giving me the exposure, I'm entitled to 20% of the total amount(even though I created this all alone). This also means that the copy that will be sold to 'big' customer will carry their name, not mine.
This might be a rip off, but at my level, even that 20% will really go a long way for me.
The issue is that I need to know how to protect myself legally so that I will not be barred from selling this software to another company on my own.

Comments, plzzzzz.

@ikeobidi , you do not patent software, publications, music, etc, rather you patent inventions. The software you developed falls under copyright. You protect your copy right by just declaring that all rights reversed(e.g Copyright (C) 2010 SoftWebKey.com - All Rights Reserved ). In this scenario, you can tell them that you are granting them the right to use the software(they should not resell it) but you are not selling the copyright to them. This will automatically protect you when you want to sell it to other people to make use of it.

Time to get an EULA for your script. And I insist its License you are after, not patent  tongue

Ioncube and Zend Encoder can be used for license and version control.

Which kind script be this sef? Why are you dulling us?? See I dont like working blindly, so start talking. Which kind app be this and how we wan take share the 15 mill?

EULA: By "we" sharing the money I mean you and I alone.

@chukxy: I see. Thanks a million for the info.
@dual core: I concede that it's a license I need after all. Thanks a lot for your input.

@ikeobidi , thank you the acknowledgement, but you do not use licence for software, the proper term is copyright. For more information, you can contact any attorney specialised in intellectual property.
