JAMB releases UTME result
By Kamarudeen Ogundele Published 24/04/2010

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday released the results of the first Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted last Saturday.

Of the 1,276,795 candidates that sat for the examination, results of 48,188 are still being withheld for further screening, the JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde disclosed at a press briefing in Abuja.

"The results are on internet as I am speaking with you. Candidates do not need to buy any scratch card, their registration numbers can be used to check the results", he added.

Imo state has the highest number of applicants (111613); followed by Delta (86955), Anambra (83612), Osun (74014), Edo (70964) and Ogun (70905).

Borno (8296), Kebbi (6194), Yobe (5463), Sokoto (4754), Zamfara (3568) and FCT (2393) recorded the lowest number of applicants.

The examination took place in Nigeria and six foreign countries:- Ghana, Cameroun, Benin, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

Of the 2,705 centres used for the examination in 321 towns, 38 centres were still being investigated.

"After investigation, those candidates involved in serious malpractice would have their results cancelled", Ojerinde vowed.

Forty-six centres in Abia, Akwaibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Lagos and Rivers are also being investigated for de-recognition.

Bayelsa has the highest number of results being withheld for further screening.

On why the board failed to announce the best results, Ojerinde said "in the past, we have declared some candidates to be the best and in the final analysis we discovered cases of malpractice".

Why waste your time in school when you can make millions from kidnapping?. Do they need a degree to kidnap again?

Now that they have successfully conducted the exams for this year, they should start preparing for next year which will be online.

Hope the federal government if looking at this stats because how can the so called most populated parts of the country produce the least candidates in JAMB every year?.

It is possible if education is not the interest of the most populated part. North I believe you are saying is more interested in politics than education and personal development.

Yeah i am talking about the north and as for their interest it needs to be investigated well. Are they in the military, rearing livestock's or farming?, increasing the amount of almajiris/boko harams or taking Islamic education instead. Where exactly do those populated youth belong to . .if their interest lies in animal husbandry then government should support them fully according to their interest. So many industries can be built around their expertise in farming and rearing of animals.

They could go into commercial milk production, processing of meats into various forms that can be packaged and stored instead of the conventional killing of cow that you have to sell within three days. Every country promotes their foods in one way or the other and i see no reason why suya cannot be one of the main food attractions in our hospitality industry. Agriculture is the same thing, all those tomatoes and onions that is wasted every year could processed into pastes that can be stored and many other things.

The government should force them to be trained experts in fields that are related to the industry around them . . . peanuts was being imported from Ghana before they woke up from their slumber and started processing groundnuts into peanuts as well.

Ironically, the governor appears to be anti-education.
Re: Imo Continues To Lead In Jamb Applications by Abagworo(m): 10:02am On Oct 24, 2010
For more than 20 years,Imo state has continued to produce the most number of applicants, graduates and youth corpers in Nigeria. The educational gap between Imo and other states has widened but there is something bothering me.Imo state has the most number of job seekers and unemployed graduates in Nigeria. We(Imo citizens) need to industrialise our state in order to create opportunities for our teeming unemployed graduates since they are discriminated against by other states and Fg firms.
Re: Imo Continues To Lead In Jamb Applications by slap1(m): 11:03am On Oct 24, 2010
^As if that was not enough, Ohakim collected some money from the largely broke graduates in order to provide ten thousand jobs for them. They're still waiting for him and he's busy planting flowers in Owerri.

Imo is the academic brain box of the south-east, especially kids from the Owerri axis. Too many institutions of learning clustered in that small area.

How come they find it difficult to elect a good governor even with all their education?
Re: Imo Continues To Lead In Jamb Applications by Nobody: 11:21am On Oct 24, 2010
One other reason is the population factor. An average imo family has 7 children from one woman.

That is a lie and even if it is true, it still does not explain why some states that are clearly more populated than others still trails the less populated states. If that is the case, Northern states will be coming first because 4 wives will have a total of 24 children followed by Yoruba states because of polygamy too.

Guy, forget all those ficticious numbers from the North. Desert dey get more population? There is no need to argue. I believe you have one or two friends from Imo. Just call them now and try to find out how many they are in their family. Mind you that we are not only referring to the Imo people living in Imo, need I remind you that Imo people can be found even in the remotest areas of all the 36 states.

We don't have the worst governor, actually. And I think being educated is not a criteria for electing a good leader, at least not in Nigeria.

Check out Sokoto state with less than 5,000 candidates, yet they claim they are born to rule.

Because you have the highest population does not mean you will have the highest JAMB intake if your citizens do not want to study. That is what i was trying to explain to you that  government should look into their low intake vis-a-vis their so called large population. The number of students making up those numbers for each states takes into account your state of origin and not where you are living. If it was about where you are living then lagos state would have been number one.

And to think that the total population producing that number is 3,696,999 while delta state with a population of 4,098,391 produces 86,955 students.  shocked  shocked

Where are the students in a state of more than 3 million?  shocked

Does the federal government care about statistics and how it can use it to detect problems in the country that needs to be addressed?

I wish i can get an unbias assessment of ohakim but it seem impossible.
Nigerias like looking at things through emotion and not fact.

can someone tell me, if you think he's bad, what bad things has he done or how has the state gotten worst DUE TO his actions?

and if you think he's good, or 'not that bad' what has he done then?

can someone tell me, if you think he's bad, what bad things has he done or how has the state gotten worst DUE TO his actions?

and if you think he's good, or 'not that bad' what has he done then?

He robbed over 15,000 unemployed Imo indigenes by promising them jobs and selling application forms to them at a cost of N10,000 each, then he turns around to use the revenue he got from the application forms to employ only 10 people and the remaining change went to his bank account.

Analysis
N10,000 x 15,000 = N150M

He employed 10 people at a salary of 500k/Year = N5M of the application fee money will be spent on the 10 lucky people a year. So, in essence, it will take 13-15 years before the 10 candidates can finish the whole N150M and Ohakim would have been out of office by then. He robbed Peter to pay Paul small then kept the remainder.

He is second to only Chimaroke Nnamani and Gbenga Daniels.

Ohakim did well in maintenance of Owerri's cleanliness(It has always been a clean city) and nothing more.Imo state has four major towns of Owerri,Orlu,Okigwe and Oguta. There were no single infrastructural improvement in the other three towns,no improvement in the education sector,no improvement in the health sector,Spent billions deceiving us that we can use ferry from Oguta to Owerri after the dredging of Nworie river. His failure is undeniable.
