ABUJA: Most Christians will be familiar with the biblical story of the rescue of the Israelites after many years of servitude in Egypt. However, the rescue effort was to be followed by another 40 years spent wandering in the wilderness before the Israelites eventually got to the promised land.

If Dr. Chima Emmanuel Okereke, the General Overseer of Global Success Ministries and President, Success Family Values Initiatives is to be believed, Nigeria is about to go through a similar experience. The General Overseer recently told journalists in Abuja that just like the Israelites, Nigeria is about to begin a 40-year journey, at the end of which it would become the envy of other countries; that is, by the time it is marking its 90th year of independence. The cleric said a key plan of God to achieve this is the eradication of corruption. According to him, God will begin this with the next set of office holders at every level of governance across the country and any sensible politician should begin to treat corruption the same way he or she would treat the HIV virus.

“I saw an angel of death sent by God to destroy the spirit of corruption in this nation; so corruption now in any seat of power is like HIV/AIDS. Anyone that is afraid of HIV/AIDS should be afraid of corruption after May 29th. The angel has started taking a survey of the lawmakers and that is why I have written to the Senate and the House of Representatives,” Okereke told reporters.

Noting that most Nigerians have been denied essentials of modern life like electricity, good healthcare, good educational system and the like despite the tremendous resources that have accrued to the country in the past 50 years of its independence, the General Overseer warned: “To avoid these deaths, which will commence within 36 months, politicians should respect the Bible and the Qu’ran with which they are to take oath of office.”
