Niger Delta ex-militants have called on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to drive the development of the region the way he transformed Akwa Ibom State as governor. They also appealed to him to extend his supervisory roles to the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), following alleged corruption in the scheme.

The ex-militants, under the auspices of Ex-Agitators Youth Development Combined (EAYDC) said since its inception, the amnesty programme has been hijacked by non-agitators, who mismanaged resources, leaving only crumbs for the real ex-militants. Members of EAYDC said the injustice in the programme must be addressed, because it has turned out to one of the most corrupt interventionist agencies in the country.

The group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, General Tonye Bobo, popularly called Sir T, said the original code prescribed by the United Nations to guide interventionist agencies had been abandoned by the amnesty office. Bobo said non-training of delegates was one of the reasons why the amnesty programme was lagging behind.

He said: “One of the primary aims of the amnesty programme has been defeated, which of course, is the re-integration phase, which has not been fulfilled. This is the cause of the perennial agitations in the region.

The national coordinator said Akpabio would not disappoint the region, as he would deploy his wealth of experience in his new assignment. He said the former governor was competent and would handle his new assignment with passion. He said members of his group would support Akpabio and offer him required assistance in his quest to develop the region.

Bobo said: “We are a grassroots-based organization in the region and will not support anybody or group of people, who wish to sabotage his efforts in the ministry. We will collaborate with all compatriots to work with the minister and his team to actualize the federal government plan for the region.

“We appeal to the general public to give the new minister their maximum support and a chance to actualize his dream for the region. Senator Akpabio is more acquainted with the issues and challenges in the region.”

The amnesty program was made with genuine intentions by its originator Yar Adua. The moment Jonathan took over, it was so bastardized that it became a means for some people to access their own share of the national cake. I don't think it the program can ever be repaired and burnished by this administration.

Militants have no place in Buharis government.

This emotional words are just a tactic to warm up to Akpabio. With or without your opionion Akpabio will do a good job

Good one from the ex-militants.
They are not asking for too much.
This is how things should be for the progress of a nation, not through the way things were going years back by bombing the gas pipelines and putting the lives of Deltans in jeopardy, along with polluting the water for their fishermen

Our thinking for many decades, even as teenager(s) : Niger Delta region should be one of the best if not the best region in the whole of Africa assuming our government have been doing things right pre democracy and when our denocracy started in 1999.
The best schools, best hospitals, best ports, best everything should be in Niger Delta region for real while they spread it to other region all over the nation from there.
This is where over half of what we depend on as a nation comes from.
You protect and guide where you are making your money from.

But our leaders and Niger delta leaders have only been after their personal pockets.
There is one of their leader that disappeared since 2015 after collecting BILLIONS from the Jonathan just to secure the pipelines, another one used our money to go established a university in a neighboring country!
A big shame.

May Ken Saro-Wiwa's soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
We pray he won't die in vain for his people.

We rise!

My neighbor then was appointed as one the directors of NDDC in 2011......since then, i have not set my eyes on the man since i left Akwa ibom back in 2018.

Na hear i dey hear say baba dey build house like bird, hotels n petrol stations as well.

Even married a new wife.
Hmmmmm, Seun, just imagine that!
There are many of them like that.
Niger Delta leaders that stole BILLIONS of naira they are supposed to use to better the lives of Deltans.
It is appaling bro.

Hmmmm, this is deep!
But, One good thing about our darling Daddy is that he belongs to nobody and belongs to everybody.

A better and more better Nigeria is what President Muhammadu Buhari and his AMIABLE Vice President PROF YEMI OSINBAJO are after.

May God continue to give them more wisdom, knowledge and understanding as they move our nation forward.
