I will need to check my first email message to get that. Prior to that I have never used a computer before. Got to the cafe, my younger brother paid the cafe attendant, as the elder, I sat down in front of the PC making fool of myself. I didn't even know what to do. But today, , well I thank God.

Mine was in 2005. Our SS 2 govt teacher at Afro, Abeokuta gave us assignment on types on government say make we go print am from d net. So i followed my class mate to cyber cafe come de look computer like mumu. I wasn't happy about being a computer illitrate so the next evening, i used my pocket money to buy 3hours time. I didn't even know how to login. All the people there, including the cafe attendant- one stup.id girl were shouting at me say why i come burn my money? Luckily, church member came in and showed me how to make basic inputs. Since then, no looking back. I'm now very good at the computers but there's still a lot to learn as we all hav to update when new programs are developed

Mine was in 1999, we had a business center which we later upgraded to an internet cafe, I was first dazzled by the invention but after about 4 hrs of browsing everyday for like 2 wks I became a the guru and even got a nickname (whizkid) from the customers, they were always amazed by the way I used the internet, then people doing research will come over so that I can use google, askjeeves, mamma to do the research for them, Wow I made a lot of money then. It was the internet that inspired me into studying computing at the university, I liked the way the engineers solved how connectivity problems those day . My first email provider was eudoramail, I cant even remember the id anymore.

lol, what a nostalgic thread, mine was 1999, with tortoise-like internet connections then in my town.

*the cafe attendants were always ripping me off so much. I couldnt even type, mails were typed for me to send abroad.
*I was regularly going for night browsing with no achievement, just to stare at the colourful pics and take abt 2 hours to type a mail, funny enough i did computerised accounting in school without operation a computer

It must have been at the turn of the new millenium. I remeber the whole funny experience, meeeeeeeeen!
A friend of mine just came back from school with a new PC he cloned and i had only seen computers from afar prior to then.
He took time to teach me computer appreciation as it was called then, MS office suites, correl draw and pagemaker. And it was Win 98!      

Once armed with desktop skills, i went for the ultimate--Internet.
The funny thing is that then in school, UNIZIK, you only go to Cafe to open a mail box or check your mail--and then, you cannot even touch the mouse not to talk of keyboard, the cafe has only one coumpter!      

The cost was so much that the you just pay and the operator will quickly rush through the process of mail set up, if it was mail checking, he will just read out the mails and bid you godspeed, becuase so many others are waiting on the cue.

On holiday, i landed lagos and together with a friend, we went to night browsing @ Ojuelegba side at almost 1k, we spent almost the first one hour trying to figure out how to sign in to yahoomail box    

My first use of the internet was in 1996 or 1997 i paid N300 for my mail box harri76@yahoo.com to be checked at Alakija bustop Lagos and all i got was the mail sent to me by yahoo for opening the box. lol

Mine was in 1998. At NLNG Bonny Island to visit a relative and am all alone at home for four days with internet. I opened my first mail box then, though closed but reopened it in 1999.

mine was in 2001, first email was ****@onebox.com and the cafes used to rip me of the lil cash I had, it was like 'american wonder'.considerin it was so expensive then to browse.I initially went to another part of town with a friend  and I'll just watch ,then the day I decided to try it on my own,that cafe wasnt open and my doggedness made me look for another one and the attendant told me it was N70(I was actually happy cos I'd been thinking it was too expensive then,not knowing she meant N70/min)I almost left there Unclad if not for God's intervention, and to imagine that I couldnt even achieve anything due due to my naivety in navigating the pages.the in-thing then was passion.com,123greeting.com,no facebook,no nairaland

mine was in 2000,open my first email ogadi2000,afta den it went up,at 12yr created my first website in 2001 afta agbani won miss world,eva since i spend close 2 18hrs daily online as a webmaster n i now eat,skool.get paid 4rm d internet.

Mehnnn, i was just staring a the screen as my unc was popping pages.
chei, it was like as if a new kind of TV to me!!!!!!

Problem is: the typist had to type your mails for you to any address and you had to visit them just to have access to your mails which they'll open for you and have to pay through your nose to print out!chei, see scamming!

Very funny day, back then I was 13 and was in S.S.S. 1 (will be 14 two months later) a friend of mine (we stayed in the same house, attended the same school sec school) just returned from a weekend at his brother's place. He boasted to me about having an email and what the experience was like, he told me that I will have a lot of white friends and I was wowed by that.

So we went to the cafe and bought time, meanwhile my friend has not even understand it very well. He sat while I stood behind him! When the time was logged in for us. We saw all the icons, my friend was confused!  then he looked at me, shaking the mouse, and me been a novice shakes my head in approval! 

We wanted to sign-up an email account, and my friend was clicking 'My Computer' icon over and over again, and me been a novice is always nodding my head in approval! We spent over 30mins doing nothing, then a guy was beside us, he saw that we didn't get what we were doing, then he helped me open the mail, he taught us how to send and check our mailbox, and that was it. since then no going back! 
Infact I'm addicted to it!

The first time I used the internet was through a phone. I was browsing through a phone and the web pages, being in mobile format, were rather easy to navigate through. But I remember having paid so much to browse for such a short time. I loaded a recharge card with 200# airtime and the network;MTN ('the best connection') took everything from my account before I even opened up to 10 pages.

Same with me. I paid to open my email address at COnference center.

I made it a weekly affair. At first my friend would be browsing and I would be watching.

Then all was *** @skannet.gannet.com.

The first day I tried it myself I used 15mins learning how to use the mouse. I would move the mouse a little and the cursor would be running all over.

later I became addicted to it. opened like 10 email addresses. onebox, excite, thuglove, yahoo, hotmail etc

Later they opened a cafe in "Whitehouse OAU" where you would get slots per week. It was so slow that you can log in to your email and come back after 2 hours to see it still loading.

Then I graduated to visiting football sites. In 1999 I joined www.ihatemanu.com and they were always sending me newletter, In those days you would be soo excited to see any email even spam that you would spend time reading everything.

Later when you receive emails that you have won 1million Dollars you would think its true.

By 2000, I was already a pro at removing timers from computers in Lagos cyber cafe(Around Toyin street) and browsing for free.

It a lovely experience reading through everyone post, we are all happy for what we have done even if it cost us time and money. Thank GOD for science and technology as we are all better than what we use to be.

I was taken to a cafe by my elder bro's fwend & after then,i bragged to guys who were yet to have their first times!!!
It was fun though but it just gazed into the screen the whole time.

Mine was in 2001,went to a cybercafe with my elder brother to open an email for me,i just saw people in front of PCs,i was like wow! these guys are gurus,when am i ever goin to be like them?

Popular ke. Nobody outside the oil companies were using the Internet then. Not even banks. Apart from the LAN (Novell Netware) and email (AOL, Compuserve, those kinda stuff) nobody was surfing the web the way we do today. What the guys at MPN had then was email. I for one didn't even see Yahoo myself till 1998, for the first time.

2000 or 2001 if i remember well, then i use , @onebox.com and , @another.com
