You are so wrong because you fail to distinguish an ethnic nation from its sub-groups and as such, there are only three (3) ethnic nations in rivers state. 1.(IJAW- kalabari, okrika, andoni, ibani, obolo, opobo/nkoro, abua/odua, enginni) 2. (IGBO-ekpeye, ikwerre, etche, ndoni, ogba etc) 3. OGONI- bori, eleme, tai, gokana). so lets stop confusing ourselves and other ignorant people.

I wonder why people call places like Etche in Rivers state tribe or even Ikwere just because they want to rule themselves. SMH!

The Etches are different, they are proud of their Igbo label.

You haven't been to Etche, have you? If you have then just pay a visit to Chokocho, Umuechem, Egwi, Okehi and the rest of them and see for yourself. It is only the people living in the interior places maybe closer to the border of an Igbo state that may acknowledge their Igbo identity.

emofine: how intriguing it would be to meet all these people from those ethnic groups that are hardly mentioned, ah the things I could be learning from these people. Nigeria is rich indeed.

You are so right
I had the blessing of meeting the Afizeres......Plateau State
Learnt a few words like kushim, kokok, me ta shim, etc meaning love, sorry, I love you respectively

If only the horrible divisive phenomena like bigotry, religious fanaticism, tribalism, terrorism didn't exist! 9ja would be awesome

But they do, and it is so sad, and so wrong
I sadly think dividing Nigeria may be the only solution

Yea. My tribe is no. 145 as listed on d website above. Note dat a tribal name can also be the village name of dat particular tribe i.e tribal name does nt hav to differ frm d village name of dt tribe.

Number 25 and 42 (Bachama and Batta) are actually dialects of the Bwatiye language which u mentioned in number 72. Proud to be Bwatiye.
Re: The 250+ Tribes/ethnic Groups In Nigeria by victor1464(m): 6:02am On Sep 27, 2014
egheleghe: Defining distinct language from dialect is almost impossible if the distinct language is mutually intelligible with the other.example is isoko-urhobo and efik-ibibio-annang.a small lingual group might be considered by some as part of a bigger group. This becomes even more difficult if the group is heterogenous.an example is igbo-ikwerre.if ikwerre (whose igbo is more mutually intelligible to other igbos than ebonyi, enugu and north-eastern abia) is considered an ethnic group,it means that there are well over 200 ethnic groups in south-east alone.i however must state clearly here that language is not the only determinant.the main factor is personal belief.if i'm from ikwerre and consider myself igbo, thats my cup of tea.if i consider myself different from igbo,no one can force me period.

119 Pulani (Pulbe) Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa , Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi , Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, etc.

There is a mistake here, it should read as "Fulani (Fulbe) not Pulani or Pulbe.

Another thing is where is Adamawa and Gombe in this mentioning........

Kalabari, Okrika, Ibani are not tribes, they are Ijaws, THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH LIKE Ijebu of Yoruba or egba of yoruba, Kalabari Okrika and Bonny are collectively Ijaw Tribe that includes the Arogbo people of Ondo and the Izons of Delta,Edo and Bayelsa states.
u r tryin..dis people hav bin made an ethnic group and bin registered..so y r u contestin it..y is it painin u igbos..y didnt u people create ur own groups??..we d ukwuani ethnicity of delta state speak a language which is very much intelligble to edo n igbo language...dat dosent mean dat we r igbo or edo..our language is a registered ethnic group..so u igbos should go hug transformer if it pains u

my ethnicity is ukwuani,no 338 on d list....y do igbos like so much arguments.? Dis is y dey refuse dem 4rm bcomin d president of nigeria.....if d urobo and isoko r different tribes, igala n idoma ar different, bini and esan r differen, itsekiri and yoruba r different ethnic group...it simply means d every group want to live independently...for ur infomation about d Anioma...i am 4rm d anioma region...it is only just a part of anioma dat speaks igbo language which r d aniocha people....d ika,ukwuani/ndokwa people r distinct ethinic group which hav decided to form a political name with d aniocha(igbo group) to form a new state...i am 100percent ukwuani because we dont speak igbo...so hw do we comminicate with igbos??..we want to train u people to know dat Ukwuani is a distint ethnic group under d so calld Anioma formation(a socio cultural group)

Exactly! ethnic groups in Nigeria are probably just 30. When you talk about tribes you can say 250+

In South West we have only one ethnic group which is Yoruba...well we could consider the egun people members of the Fon/ewe ethnic group

But when talking of tribes we have about 16
