Minimum Wage: Ogun Workers To Start 2-Day Warning Strike On Thursday by mattjunior(m): 11:21pm On Dec 16, 2019
Workers in Ogun State have announced the commencement of a two-day warning strike on Thursday to protest the failure of the state government to negotiate the implementation of the new minimum wage with them.

The workers, under the aegis of Organised Labour in the state, said their colleagues in the state and local government civil/public services would proceed on the warning strike from Thursday and Friday.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of Trade Union Congress, Olubunmi Fajobi, his counterpart in the Nigeria Labour Congress, Bankole Emmanuel; Chairman, Joint National Congress, Folorunsho Olanrewaju, and the Coordinating Secretary, Adebiyi Olusegun.

In the notice of strike sent to the governor and obtained by our correspondent, the workers threatened to embark on an indefinite strike by January if the government failed to yield to their demands after the warning strike.

The notice of indefinite strike reads in part, “The Congress of Organised Labour in Ogun State, today (Monday), after an exhaustive deliberation and review of actions taken by its leadership in getting the state government to negotiations’ table and the nonchalant attitude thereon and also mindful of the directive of national joint public service negotiation council that all negotiations towards consequential adjustment in the state must be concluded by December 31, 2019, resolved that a two-day warning strike would be embarked upon starting from Thursday to Friday.

“We must add that at the expiration of the warning strike, if the state government fails to respond to our demands, all workers in the public service of Ogun State shall proceed on an indefinite strike from January 2, 2020.”

They work and work and work, but to buy ordinary slippers nah gbege.

Their salaries is poor, still they are owed.

God bless our darling Daddy for raising the minimum wage of Nigerian workers even when the economy is not as bouyant as of the time we made the highest profit/money from the sales of crude oil to foreign nations.

We made the highest profit during the era of Jona, but they never deemed it fit to increase the mininum wage for the wasted years Jona was the President, they rather shared all the BILLIONS of dollars among themselves.

To a New and better Nigeria we go.

We have written this more than once here.....
Hope it can get to the right sources.

HOW NIGERIA CAN PAY MINIMUM WAGE COMFORTABLY..........

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N45,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N65,000 comfortably

3. Move Nigeria MORE to Private Sector Driven Economy
a) Privatise ALL MOST of Federal Govt PARASTATALS & reduce Federal Direct Funded AGENCIES to 68% of the present.
b) Privatise ALL of STATE Govt PARASTATALS & reduce State Direct Funded AGENCIES to 19% of the present.
c) Reduce current DIRECT LABOUR JOB participation by 49%
d) Encourage more Working Hours until Nigeria economic stabilizes
e) Discourage UNIONISM in Public Workforce

With (1) + (2) + (3), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N101,500 comfortably.

4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS.

With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably.

I can't imagine that gov Dapo Abiodun is not willing to pay the minimum wage despite him trying so hard to give us an impression to be of good governance, despite the fact that this people are working hand in hand with him to deliver his promises and above it all the good support everyone gave him during elections, this money is state money for crying out loud , why did he agreed in the first instance when he knows he cannot pay.

Why is it so difficult for state governors to comply.....if your state is poor then start thinking of how to raise revenue......just look inwards......that's why were elected

Ogun should be one of the richest states in the country, the new Governor has no excuse ,he must wake up and reposition the state to a viable one..haven run his private business successfully ,he should bring in management engineering to rejuvenate the structures . Block leakages and lift the state from the shackles of poverty . NLC must show understanding in their demands

Strike wont solve anything, moreover i doubt if Ogun can pay the new wage

Which Ogun cannot pay workers?

The same Ogun state that is almost rivalling Lagos State in terms of internal revenue generated and is a hub of economic activities/business.

If there are states who have minimal allocations and less economic activities to generate good revenue for an increase in minimum wage, Ogun State should one of the few that should never be mentioned. The government is just simply evil.

Stop making excuses for these selfish bastards called politicians.

I won't be surprised that Ogun state government officials would have increased their own budget of spending.

Where do they expect the governor to get the fund to implement the new minimum wage?
The first six months is for initial gragra. Then the governor falls back and start settling godfathers and paying off loans obtained for election.

Do you think the cups of rice, bottles of groundnut oil or even grinding machines he shared during campaign fell from heaven? Una don chop una minimum wage. Make I hear say Kogi people wan strike because of unpaid salaries.
