great improvement. thats quite a lot of work you put in melvi. i can see you are going for anime style all the way.  the main things i think need improving are easing in and out of poses and of course more frames which quite understandably is so as you dont have any inbetweeners. other than that as a fellow 2d animator i'd say you are on the right track because 2 d (proper) is quite challenging. keep up the good work.

Thanks xothermik.

Yep,anime style cause its easier and faster.I am working on a new one based on final fantasy xiii.I did have inbetween frames but should have created more frames.I will be working with 0.1 timing for each frame in Photoshop CS3 since I can now colour frames faster. This will make my animations run smoother.

smart move. japs used to use tricks like panning still images  and using few or even no inbetweens in shots because they started just like you. learning from established western cartoons, little budget and mostly self thought. fortunately for them it gave birth to some distinct animation and camera moves that they still use today after they have overcome those problems and that made anime very unique. who knows you might come up with something unique too.

i've not used photoshop to animate before but i just curious does it allow you to scrub the pencil tests to see the animation as you go like classic animatiors flip their sketches or how you scrub the timeline or sketches like in other digimation softwares? if it does cool. if not then im afraid its of a great hinderance to your potential. im just trying to imagine you animating based on layers alone. but i see you nailed some lipsync at the end of the clip so perhaps it does.

There is an animation window in Photoshop which is frame by frame or can be converted to timeline format if you have the extended version. It has a play button, Most people are not familiar with this window cause they use Photoshop for picture editing, painting, airbrushing and graphics works.Thats what makes it way awesomer for animations cause if you are familiar with its powerful graphics capabilities your animations will look way better than most of these softwares which may be good for animations but don't  give the animator powerful graphical options/features.

hmm intresting. took some time to experiment with photoshop's animation capabilities. i decided to do a quick runcycle comprising of just nine frames total to get a better idea of the workflow involved as i felt i wouldn't be in a rightful position to judge it and well i must say its ok. i still feel though like its just a graphic program bending itself to be an animation program in which case i must say is its weaker function . i mean if it was that great many of the big production houses would have picked it up by now but i haven't heard of any studio using it for tv or even feature length animation and not coloring. at least as far as i know. i guess that is just an issue of preference but i'v used about at least five 2d apps and photoshop's workflow for me is the least intuitive. a skilled user will still get the job done and even rival the best but i feel it just lacks the efficiency and speed other softwares have primarily because it like building an animation app on the foundation of graphic app. there are bound to be some circumventions to preserve other components of photoshop as opposed to a software that was totally designed to achieve one purpose. of course when it comes to the coloring ability no one  is particularly confused in that area. and i dont think it offers necessarily a significant advantage to animate and color in photoshop when you can just renderout an image sequence to import and delicately color in photoshop. afterall in a typical production animating and coloring are totally different facets (even departments) of cartoons even though in this part of the worl we are forced to do everything by ourselves due to lack of proper budget. i will still play around some more when i have the time and feel like it to see if i will actually reverse myself. in the mean time lets keep the fire burning.

Really impressed with what you came up with. That stick figure looks cool.I prefer the frame by frame animation box in Photoshop though. You can convert timeline to frame by frame animation.Makes arranging layers with reference to frames easier as well as timing.
In truth, other apps might seem easier but Photoshop has a coloring and effects advantage, though some people like using After effects for effects like rain, snow but Photoshop teaches you how to make these effects yourself so one can manipulate effects manually.Like I can create rain, snow, fire, someone controlling water with Photoshop and it looks good.

I did gather that Naruto and Bleach were animated with Photoshop, sometimes even traditionally for certain scenes.Imagine animating in another app say like up to 77 frames, and exporting the frames one by one before colouring. It sounds cumbersome. You have to paint backgrounds in Photoshop and then import into another app and then you find out the background needs to be made longer due to the fact that you have to tween its movement from left to right.Little things like this can be frustrating, so why not just use a software that lets you paint awesomely and animate awesomely,

I completely agree with you though,it really comes down to personal preference.

yeah i had painstakinly juxtaposed the layers and set their timing manually in the timeline mode only for me to suddenly discover the frame by frame display mode which is quicker though not too good for scrubbing. was gonna flesh out the stick character after getting the performance going but changed my mind. waiting to see your next clip.
