It is even harder to read the pidgin. Once they introduce these dots it will make it even harder to learn how to read and write this language. |

udonna20: Standardization or Complication? Imagine market women trying to fix these things together to understand. I think the Professor missed a point here. The reason why people speak pidgin because it is difficult to speak and even to write to original english. Now instead of him to simplify it, he further complicated the language. I think written Hausa language is even far too simple to read and understand than what he has there Furthermore, language speech and writing evolve over a long period of time, therefore it a smack of providence for a professor to just decide to standardise a language. 1 Like |

Thanks brothers and sisters for your great postings concerning Nigerian Pidgin Language (NPL) and Nigerian Pidgin Language (NPL) Bible Translation Project. Of course it is correct to say that NPL alphabet and orthography is similar to Yoruba language orthography. It is also similar to Igbo, Hausa, and other Nigerian orthographies. It is additionally similar to Cameroon Pidgin orthography. But Nigerian Pidgin Language (NPL) orthography is not the same as the orthographies of these languages. Learn to read the Alphabet of Nigerian Pidgin Language (NPL) and use its orthography correctly by visiting this page: http://www.mercy-christian-ministry.org/nigerian-pidgin-language-alphabet.html Also, contribute to the NPL development and the Nigerian Pidgin Language (NPL) Bible translation project by posting your comments here: http://www.mercy-christian-ministry.org/npl-nt-gods-blessing-or-cheap-imitation.html |

Is it possible to produce a "real" pidgin bible for Nigerians? Yes, it is possible if you volunteer to translate a verse or two of the Holy Bible into Nigerian Pidgin. The project site to achieve this feat is now ready at http://www.nigerianpidginbible.org. Register, Login and translate a verse or two into pidgin. Up to three translations can be given for each verse. If you like or prefer a translation somebody else have done, you can simply click on the 'vote' button: that will increase the rating of that translation. You can provide support to the project thru (1)constructive criticism to the contact on the web website (2) Finance , to enable the maintenance of the site and continuity of the project (3) Telling people about the project or liking it on facebook http://www.facebook.com/nigerianpidginbible , and (4) Translating or voting a verse or two. |
