Breaking News: Two dead as Aregbesola rescued five accident victims at Osu


The timely arrival of Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the scene of an auto-accident along Osu-Ile-Ife expressway saved the lives of five people and limited fatality to two on Saturday as he ordered two vehicles in his convoy to convey the wounded to the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa for treatment.
Governor Aregbesola was travelling around 1.00 p.m. from Ilesa to attend the 2010 edition of Iwo day celebrations in Iwo town as a Special Guest of Honour when he met the victims in the wreckage and rescued them in an operation that lasted for one hour.
The accident involved a brand new ash-coloured 2009 Toyota Camry car without a registration number which skidded off the road while the other one, a sports car was burnt beyond recognition.
The driver of the Toyota Camry car, whose name could not be ascertained, died instantly alongside a policeman that bore Toba Abidoye with service number 458051 on his name tag. He was suspected to be a corporal.
While Aregbesola ordered that the injured victims be transferred to the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, for treatment, the corpse of the driver of the Toyota Camry car could not be retrieved from the wreckage of the car by his security aides and other members of the convoy.
Moved with empathy, the Osun State helmsman ordered his aides and security agents to help the victims out of the sports car which caught fire and was burning intensely.
The wounded victims were immediately conveyed to the hospital in a blue-coloured Toyota Hiace bus and a Hilux van in the Governor’s convoy.
One of the injured victims was suspected to be either a mobile policeman or a soldier as he was wearing an army green-coloured pair of trousers.
