Polls just opened and I've not seen or heard much yet and it kinda seems eerily quiet. I'll take a stroll down to my polling unit shortly.

I hear a lot of money has been flowing around Warri since last night; if you get voters card then consider yourself potentially 20k richer.

You want a free and fair election but you already know who should not win. Your post is simply irresponsible.

I've been searching frantically all over nairaland for this.
Pls lets keep the posts responsible and focused on the elections and happenings there,
Re: Official Thread::: Delta State Election Rerun by ogagusps3: 11:28am On Jan 06, 2011
@ na_so The fact is all Deltans hate Uduaghan b/c of all the things he did when he was governor. We all saw how deltans celebrated when he was removed. Nothing short of him bribing all voters will get him re-elected.
Re: Official Thread::: Delta State Election Rerun by blinx4real(m): 11:35am On Jan 06, 2011
L&G, this post shouldn't be for who or why anyone will vote for anyone,
the focus here is on whats happening at the polling booths and general ambience in Delta State. If you want to talk about who or what should be voted for pls create another thread.
I expect that we should all be enlightened enough to stay with simple instructions.

The court ordered election re-run in Delta state has been marred with administrative lapses as materials meant for elections are arriving late to designated polling booths across the state.

So far, only in Kwale where citizen reporters affiliated to Saharareporters are monitoring the elections is accrediting of voters through a widely publicized open ballot system .

Also, election materials for Bowen and Pessu wards in Warri South have been hijacked and taken to Alders town primary school by PDP thugs and active thumb-printing of ballot papers are in progress. Party agents were beaten and the policemen on duty are helpless according to our reporters.

In Udu local area,no accreditation all over, no security to accompany ballot papers and election material despite reports of deployment of a large number of security agents across the state.

Also, in Uvwie LGA in Effurun round about, no accreditation is taking place. In Warri South Iyiara, materials have been hijacked. Warri stadium materials have also been hijacked.

Naval officers accused of turning back DPP agents heading to Ugborodo, Ogidigben, Ajidiabo, Madangho, Orere and Ijala while PDP party agents were offered military escort.

Ethiope East LGA, in Kokori and Abraka, police station junction no materials have arrived as at 11: 00 am. Voters told SaharaReporters they haven't seen any materials for 30+ polling booths in the area. INEC officials later showed up with the wrong paper work for the election. Ethiope East is Great Ogboru's local government area.

In Orogun, the hometown of Ovie Omo-Agege, a unit in Ward 2, no election materials had arrived as at 11: 25 AM.

But Kayode Idowu, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman told SaharaReporters that these are isolated incidents, he claimed "accreditation" is ongoing and that for every report of violence INEC chair, Attahiru Jega is on a hotline to the Inspector General of police.

He says, Jega is about to leave the INEC headquarters in Asaba to begin assessment of the elections.

Police are arresting people moving about the place but some of them were driving to the polling booth. At ASABA, one particular guy who lived in street A in Area 1 and now living in street B in Area 2 was arrested even when he presented his voters card the Police will not hear. They say the total Delta State population is 4.5 million out of which 1.5 million is registered to vote.

I am not from Delta but was der sometime last year and was moved by the clear cut policies and implementation by Uduagan, I hope he wins so he can work now n a legitimate ticket. The other aspirants Obgoru who insitututed the suit and spent so much time and money i court, especially Great did not do much campaigns instead they were more concerned in getting INEC to postpone the election even though they all had 90days to prepare. Anyway choice is for the voters, am not a fan of PDP but i know a good man when i see one and i hope Uduagan who was virtually abandoned by PDP until the last moment will come on a legitimate ticket now without Iboris ghost and strings. If he wins now, he knows he won through hard work, campagin and on his own. Beleive me he was really humbled by this, a lot of people turned their backs on him, wouldn't pick his calls or even his wifes calls, people who few months ealier were their best buddies. Its good at leas if he wins now he will work legitimately.

Accreditation has begun in such areas as ASABA, WARRI, SAPELE but this idea of crowd at INEC points should be curtailed. People should be clearly marked, PRESS, STAFF, AD HOC, so many people in mufti. Its only NYSC people now that are clearly marked.

report has it that voting has started in oghara and things are going on fine.

People should have it in mind that NO POLITICIAN CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE ONLY GOD CAN. Those you want to vote in are going there to enrich themselves.

Uduaghan will win and he deserves the victory! First, he has performed creditably well and secondly while all the other candidates have been thumping the tribal card Uduaghan has been going around campaigning vigourously!

Urhobos are the largest ethnic group in the state, but at the same time they have the highest number of candidates in the race. Ogboru and Omo Agege both Urhobo candidates would do good to split the votes while Uduaghan coasts away with the votes smaller ethnic groups Igbos, Isokos, and Itsekiris which collectively make up more than the Urhobos.

Its sad how the ethnic factor is the only determinant in this election. Uduaghan has done pretty well, but many Urhobos I've talked to completely disagree  simply because he is an Itsekiri man. Warri has changed dramatically under Uduaghan, same with Asaba and a couple other cities.

From reports I'm getting, the election is going on impressively! I've just spoken with someone who alluded to the fact that if this is how the 2011 general elections would play out, then it probably would be the freest and fairest election we have witnessed in the country.

The most impressive factor is the absense of thugs and thge organisation of thge INEC officials.
That is the report I'm getting!
Re: Official Thread::: Delta State Election Rerun by wesley80(m): 1:06pm On Jan 06, 2011
Its all going smoothly in Uvwie LG a notorious LG and a potential flashpoint. I've been to abt 3 stations and the only snag I've noticed are the huge crowds and extremely slow voting process. There are 3 police men in each station and they r doing a good job so far, Military Copters hovering in the skies every half hour seem to remind us how important this elections are.
Most voters around here are rooting for Ogboru but at the same time seem to have resigned to the fact that no matter what happens, Uduaghan wld still win. I bet they r wrong but have no doubt Uduaghan wld still carry d day quite legitimately.

Deltans To Jonathan: We Don’t Want Uduaghan

By SaharaReporters, New York
Former Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who was sacked by the law court from the position two months ago, is being bluntly rejected by state voters ahead of tomorrow’s election to replace him.

Uduaghan is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP)  in the election and President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo on Tuesday campaigned for him in Warri, Delta State.

Nigeria’s Daily Trust newspaper is reporting however, that the crowd which gathered to listen to Jonathan’s speech, most of them rented, reacted angrily when the President urged them to vote for Uduaghan in the election.

Daily Trust reported that as soon as the president called for Uduaghan’s re-election, supporters thundered “No, No, No”.  The so-called supporters, who wore customized Jonathan-Sambo T-shirts, shouted the President down, clamouring repeatedly, “We need a change now and not Uduaghan.”

Sensing that insisting on Uduaghan’s election might rob him (Goodluck) of critical support during the coming presidential election, the President quickly dumped the former governor and began to campaign for himself.  He said he had already developed a blueprint for the development of the country and that he would like to rule Nigeria for more four years.

But close to the end of his speech, Jonathan again made a case for Uduaghan, saying the former governor’s administrative experience is needed to turn Delta around

Updates:

10: 45 AM (Nigerian time) Violence has erupted in Agaga layout area of Uvwie as voters protest hijack of election materials. Also on Warri/Effurn Road by JFM Goldspot, youths carrying sticks attack journalists and INEC staff

At Olodi Primary school Okumagba ward 11 unit 3 voters complained of inadequate security. Only six policemen guarding 16 polling booths in the highly volatile Warri south LGA

INEC Chairman's team says they've noticed some rowdiness but things are under control. Jega visits polling units at Okwe where accreditation had been concluded. INEC chair team said they've heard complaints of people printing fake voters card overnight and the clogging of polling booths by person with no voter's card.
There are rowdiness
Fake voters card
Names on voters register

Jega on his way to Warri, Patani, Bomadi and Burutu. INEC says , results will be pasted immediately after they are counted and then collated

Chief Edwin Clark spoke from his home saying things are going well so far in his area. He said reports from Uvwie shows that an attempt by the local government chairman to hijack ballot boxes was rebuffed.

Reports says PDP thugs are actively hijacking ballot boxes and intimidating voters and party agents in Pessu, Okere, GRA, Igbudu and Bowen wards in Warri South LGA. Security is obviously compromised in the area.

You are right, i ve  been to Delta before Uduagan and after he became Governor, he has clear policies and follows thorough implementation. I was disappointed with the other aspirants esp Ogboru after spending so much in court he should have worked harder in campaigning to get the pples support. Uduagan humbled by the humiliation and the subsequent betrayal by so called friends rolled up his sleeves and got to vigorously campaigning. I hope he wins, freely and fairly, he deserves it
Re: Official Thread::: Delta State Election Rerun by Epiphany(m): 1:16pm On Jan 06, 2011
One thing i dont understand is that if Uduaghan was sacked for 'cheating' in the last elections, why is he still contesting? Shouldnt he be BANNED?

In all areas of life, education, business, games etc, if you are caught cheating, you would be suspended for a few years. Why is politics any different?

If Uduaghan wins again, it will be a big shame on our electoral system. SMH
