The Football Association has opened an investigation after Liverpool winger Ryan Babel posted a digitally altered picture on Twitter of referee Howard Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt and said his performance at Old Trafford was "a joke".


Webb awarded a penalty against Liverpool and later sent off its captain Steven Gerrard as Manchester United won 1-0 in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Before linking to the image of Webb, Babel wrote on Twitter: "And they call him one of the best referees. That's a joke."

The FA have since said they " will definitely look into this matter." Babel could possibly be charged with improper conduct.

howard webb is a man u fan and have had issues with his handling of man u vs other clubs in england so babel dressing him in his clubs jersey needs not to be over emphasised.

the FA was wrong to have appointed him to officiate that match. personal biases cant be over ruled. ln france 98 Nigeria was to play Denmark in the 2nd round and a spanish ref was supposed to officiate. Our pple cried out becos Nigeria defeated spain earlier and the ref might want to use that against Nigeria.

u can call me any name u like bcs we are in democracy so we are all entitle to our opinions.
do u think because webb is a ref, he does not have a club that he supports? do u think because he is a ref, he does not discuss soccer with friends and all that? it is no longer a secret in the football world that howard webb is a man u fan.
fa themselves know the truth.
webb was once accussed of calling rooney by his nick name in a match that he is officiating. webb has in the past had a lot of issues with his handling of man u games.
