If you understand what Jesus meant when He said "NO more of this" (one of the last chapters of Luke) to His disciples when Peter attacked one of the guards that came for Him; and if you understand Christ's teaching of turning the other cheek after attack; or if you understand the voices (and advert placements) of the numerous dying innocent women and children especially begging for your mercy while you wage war at them; and if you understand the word "If you kill by the sword you'll die by the sword(note that this isn't a physical sword or human sword or this lifetime sword that Jesus is talking about, for there surely would be unrepentant murderers who have died peaceful deaths in human history. So since the Lord isn't a liar, this can't be a during-this-life "sword" that He spoke of)" said by our Lord; and most shamefully to us Christians, if you understand the premise behind Muhammad Ali (a convert to Islam from Christianity) rejecting to fight in the Viewtnam war (an act that landed him in prison); I guess you should agree with me that the military, or attack or extermination of human life for whatever reason is unchristian.

Remember that the presidents or people sending us to wars mostly always do it for selfish and malignant purposes(watch Fahrenheit 9/11; a documentary criticizing Bush's wars in the Middle East).

The apostles from their acts have shown us that there are points where we may reject the orders of our earthly leaders, namely: when their orders contradict God's will. (Check the story of Peter and John before the leaders of Israel; early part of the Acts of the Apostles)

May God's grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus. In Jesus name. Amen

There are no good wars, but there are necessary wars like world war II that just have to be fought and there are unjust wars like the vietnam war. God is a God of Justice and equity and on the day of judgement he might be willing to consider the actions of the soldiers, considering the fact that they were not only following orders ( the bible says we should obey earthly authority and our rulers), but in most cases defending themselves from the evil ones like the Hitlers. A wise man once said "if you are not willing to fight for something, then you would die for anything" (or something along those lines), there are somethings simply worth fighting for like freedom, justice and liberty and another very important thing; the bible says that we must be willing to defend the weak, the poor and the lowly, in fact, its all over the bible, like defending the south koreans against communist aggression, if one neglects this divine command of neglecting the defenseless ones in our societies, then God would condemn us, because on the day of Jugement God is going to judge you based on what you did and what you didn't do like feed and house the poor, show them compassion instead of calling them "area boys", "omo-ita", "mad man" and eventually helping the weak. Like Martin Luther King once said "injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere" (or so i think), we have to be able to make sacrifices even if it means our lives to defend human lives. Also, the bible speaks about love being the greatest of all, and that love would cover a multitude of sins. The bible also says that no greater love than a man dying for his friends an example that comes to mind is that of a soldier who jumps on a grenade that take his life so that his friends don't die also. Remember, love has to cost you something darely, that's why the bible says "though i give to the poor and have not love, it profiteth me nothing", the problem with us in naija is that we are not willing to fight for anything, and the extremely few who do are labeled "mumus" simply because they are trying to change something, and you wonder why our country is so pathetic. So my question to you is this, what are you willing to fight for today, if possible die for, God has given you dominion over the earth, that means he is not going to come down from heaven take the poor people of your street or help those female 12 year old VVF victims in the North, that's your job, afterall, the church is earthly embodiement of God on earth. So get up and do something or else that word you read will on the day of Judgement condemn you to hell, please do not harden your heart and say you can't do anything, as long as you are alive you can do something, remember the bible says, "to whom much is given, much is required" God has given you life, love and salvation, that's more than enough. Peace out.

I do not think you understand what Jesus meant and said there Or you would know that by your post up there, you just condemned Jesus to be a sinner @Poster. Please spend more time reading your bible than picking and choosing verses to support your personal ideas.

Absolutely, going by the precedents set in the bible by moses, abraham, joshua, david, saul and all the biblical military generals at the order of their military commander yahweh/jehovah  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

jesus even asked his disciples to buy swords,  maybe he needed the sword to shave the disciples beards, but alas he did not come for peace but for war  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin,

why not?

@Idinrete
If you actually read the Bible you will see that Jehovah condems war. It is not something that brings Him pleasure.

@Idupaul
No matter who joins the military it goes against Bible principles. And no matter who joins the military to fight the wars that are fought will never solve anything. Human governments will not bring peace and they will not solve anything. Jehovah told man long long ago through the prophet Jerimiah that , to earthling man his way does not belong even to direct his step, man was not created to govern and look out for themselves. We cannot do it, history and our present circumstances prove this. So what good will it do for more people to take up arms and kill since it will solve nothing?

You mean the same Jehovah who is God of war?? How does He condemn war and then ask his people to wage war against their enemies Have you ever read a Bible in your life What Bible Principle are you talking of?? Please post the verse where God said ABSOLUTELY NO WAR, cause if you even get to the end of the Bible, you will see that it all ends with a huge war between Good and Evil?? Again, Have you ever read a Bible

@Uchetobi, Idinrete and Kobojunkie

Jehovah is not a god of war but a god of justice; it is one of his cardinal qualities. If you read and UNDERSTOOD the Bible you would realize this.

Matt 26:52
Isaiah 2:2-4
2 Corinthians 10:3,4
Luke 6:27,28

Jehovah did direct ancient Israel to engage in war to take possession of the land that He designated as their inheritance adn to execute peopl whoe depraved practices and defiance of Him caused Jehovah to view them as being no longer fit to live. But Jehovah would show mercy to those who exercised faith in him. The Law covenant Jehovah set forth stated rules for warfare that He would approve of and the manner in which this warfare was to be carried out unlike wars today which are considered carnal warfare. All of that was under the Mosaic Law, which does not apply to us today, so there are different principles for us to follow in our society today. Because Jesus made a new covenant so then the Mosaic Law became null and void.

jehovah not a god of war but justice grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin you must be joking, a god of justice directing his chosen people to go and steal and capture the land that does not belong to them, executing people with depraved practices and in defiance of him because he viewed them as no longer fit to live,  and you want me to believe in this utter and ridiculous madness as justice,
what a tyrant god!

moses law is null and void that means jehovah or yahweh did not have a clue of what is was doing back then, i thought it is claimed that he/she/it is an immutable god,

so you have accepted that the old testament is no more the inspired word of god grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin,

now you are accepting reason and logic over the blind faith and absurdities of that old testament, ditto new testament.

so you dont want to have anything to do with all these atrocities and delusions:
the creation fable in genesis, serpent talking in hebrew to eve, the preposterous noah's ark and the flood stories, the institution of slavery by yahweh, the absurd tower of babel stories, puerile idea of human and animal sacrifices, dashing little babies against rocks and all other repulsive and abominable acts sanctioned by that delusional and psychotic deity called yahweh/jehovah,
[that: the ten commandements do not apply to you, fair enough because you are not jewish anyway, why should you follow it?]

henceforth, you need to expunge that old testament from your part of the bible as it no longer applies to you,

i put it to you jesus's interpretation is different from your line of reasoning, jesus is not abrogating the law his dad gave to moses, but to fulfil it.

If you do not believe me you can do your own research and find out for yourself. The Bible(where I got all my information from) explains it all, but you have to use the ENTIRE Bible and cross reference scriptures to each other. You also sometimes need to go back to the orginal word that was used in Hebrew and Greek and look at what else it translates to in English.
Re: Should Christians Join The Military? by Dammey: 7:29pm On Mar 09, 2008
Peace be with you all,

I shouldn't forget to first say that if we have being reading the Bible so much as our words connote, then it will be shameful and appear that the impact of the Scriptures on us currently seem to be in vain in the area of humility, for some here speak harshly and that's inconsiderate. Let's pursue gentility as we're taught of the Lord.

Wage war in the name defense or attack, the outcome is never pleasant. Wars of the Old Testament were done under the Old covenant which allowed such. In the New covenant: Christianity, Jesus asked His disciples to bring along swords, only in the end to show and tell them that they must never use it.

May God bless us all and help us understand these things. In Jesus name. Amen
