The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asks the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to restore police security attached to the Rivers State Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic.
The party stresses that the withdrawal of the police from the Rivers Task Force amounted to politicizing the efforts to check the spread of COVID-19 in our country.

The PDP further observes that the withdrawal of the police personnel will only lead to lawlessness as well as frustrate the genuine efforts of the Rivers State Government to ensure compliance to health safety protocols put in place to check the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard the lives of Nigerians in the state.

Our party acknowledges the efforts of Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, as well as those of other state governors elected on the platform of the PDP to flatten the curve in their respective states even without commensurate support from the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is our opinion that the order to withdraw security personnel from the task force of Rivers State, or any other state for that matter, is counter productive and against the overall interest of our nation in this fight against COVID-19.
Our party therefore urges the Inspector General of Police to reverse the directive and support efforts by Governor Wike to check the pandemic in Rivers state, particularly as the state is strategic to the economic stability of our nation.

Where was PDP when Wike in his characteristic manner took the police to the cleaners. He actually said they were frustrating his efforts by demanding gratification from the public so that they may violate the lockdown rules.

He also said he had assembled volunteers who are indigenes of Rivers state and that the volunteers would help the task force to enforce the "executive order" that Wike has promulgated.

No responsible IG of police would expose his assets to the commission of illegality in case the matters get to the law course. Moreover, as they have been withdrawn, they will no more be in a position to demand for gratification from unruly inhabitants of Rivers state who desire violation of lockdown rules.

So, PDP should advise their governor to make do with his volunteers. After all, they would not seek bribes from the public.

I really would want to see what Wike would do if the state governors agree today to remove the ban on inter-state travels. Will he prevent people from other states from entering Rivers state?

So what would be the essence of enforcing movement restriction on Rivers people even when many states did not lock down?

Buhari is just too weak for my liking. How can a Governor be using a Federal Police paid and maintained by the FG to harass FG workers on essential duties on instruction from the FG and the so called FG is just looking and doing nothing about it. Wike deserves the same punishment he gave out to those hoteliers and those car owners he auctioned their Cars. Kudos to the IGP and the FG.

Governor Wike made a stupid mistake by demolishing the hotel at Eleme and Onne but it's clear to all and sundry that the General Buhari led is making a more stupidest mistake by withdrawing Security personnel attached to Covid 19 task force in Rivers State. Actions like this tend to make the generality of Nigerians believe that Buhari is not in charge. What's wrong with APC?
