Please Recommend African Movies And Rate Them! by savanaha: 4:26am On Jan 18, 2011 |
I have recently become extremely addicted to African movies especially Nigerian (Nollywood Movies). Despite my addictions, I am very willing to admit that some of them are quiet terrible. Some on the other hand are excellent! So in the rotten tomato style I would like for suggestions on the next African movies to feed my addiction and increase my collection. |

Mr. Ikpeama Genre: Comedy Starring John Okafor Rating: 70% I think this movie was well acted and the comedic aspects were unexpected and funny. This is a movie I would recommend. |

Yellow Fever Genre: Comedy Starring Nkem Owoh Rating: 75% This is another great Nollywood comedy. I laughed so hard at the twists and turns to the plot. Another movie I would recommend |

The King is Mine Genre: Drama Starring: Nadia Buarie, Jackie Appiah Rating: 16% This movie was terrible. While the video quality was excellent, it looks like a high school play production of Shakespear's play on DVD. I soon realized that this was an embarrassing copy and paste of Masterpiece Theatre's Henry VIII with los Negroes and no horses even with the unnecessary old English with terrible accenting. I think the writer or director of this thing could have put it more culturally relevant to Africa. If we want a European history movie they are available in Nigeria. |

My American Nurse part 2 Genre: Dramedy Starring: Pascal Atuma Rating: 75% This movie had me in stitches, though there were some corny scenes it was worthwhile. I also believe the story behind the movie is relevant as I have known people who it seems like their lives were being played out in this movie. |

A Sting in a Tale Ghanaian Movie Director/Producer--Shirley Frimpong Manso For a Ghanaian or even A Nigerian movie, this has to be the best I have seen yet in terms of video quality and cinematography. The movie actually held my attention. No unnecessary scenes that make you feel like commiting suicide. Sex scenes are translated in professional manner. You get that the director knows what she's doing. Articulate diction and no over the top, classless acting. Story line was pretty much unpredictable. If you are the Ini Edo or Uche Jumbo acting lover this movie might not be for you. |

Sitanda Nigerian movie Director-- Izu Ojukwu One of the very few Nigerian movies with good video quality. A movie that takes you back to the past. Again no unnecessary scenes and cringe worthy acting. If you are the Jim Iyke 'bad boy on campus' (at the old age Jim Iyke is) kind of movie lover, you might not like this movie. |

Mr Ibu Genre: Comedy Starring: John Okafor Rating: 60% Although the picture quality of this movie is quiet atrocious, there are really funny scenes in this movie. It is slap stick comedy at its best. There is almost never a dull moment. The only problem is that some of the scenes don't seem connected but the laughs are great. |

Royal Lust Genre: Drama Starring: Patience Ozokwor Rating 70% The story is interesting, however, the build up is rather long and dull. This movie has some life lessons from an African perspective. My only issue, is that the wigs worn by the women are terrible. I think Mrs. Ozokwor is an incredible actor, however, I think the wigs she wore in the movie were horrible as they showed how completely damaged her hair front was from constant pulling and tugging. |

Bloods Apart 1 & 2 Genre: Drama Starring: Patience Ozokwor, Pete Odochie Rating: 75% Personally I really liked this movie. I think the story line was more straight forward than most of the other movies I have seen and it was possible to relate to the characters. |
Re: Please Recommend African Movies And Rate Them! by savanaha: 5:30am On Jan 25, 2011 |
My Thoughts Why does the Ghanaian movie industry feel that it must import light skinned actors/actresses and actors/ actresses with American accent? Also why do most of the story lines have really nothing to do with the African culture? What is the point of making Hollywood type movie with bad accenting in a culture where it doesn't really come across comfortable? I have noticed this saddening trend and it makes the movie watching process so uncomfortable. |

savanaha: LOL totally agree with you on that I have fully converted to Yoruba movies they are shorter & more straight to the point I enjoy them even more with subtitles |
Re: Please Recommend African Movies And Rate Them! by savanaha: 11:42pm On Jan 27, 2011 |
Freesia: I think I will just take that up. The Nollywood I am watching, though I love them for the most part always have Ghanaian actors especially Van Vicker when it is most unnecessary. Are there really no Nigerians that can act as prince? Seriously a prince in Africa doesn't have to be light. His roles are repetitive and his acting quiet boring. |

When Kings Decide Genre: Drama Starring: most of the annoying actors and actresses in order of annoyance; Hanks Anuku, , Van Vicker, Mercy Johnson Rating: 16% This movie had a queen with a full beard, actors with terrible accents (Hanks Anuku) plus lo and behold there was no sound in some of the scenes. I can't fathom why Hanks Anuku who sounds like he has a frog stuck in his throat is accepted to act in Nigerian movies. This guy always has a forced "American accent" where he uses unnecessary slang and dresses like he had a fling with the goth section of a thrift store. This movie seems like they lifted a carbon copy from "Coming to America" and added a little twist. |

Perfect Stanger Genre: Action/Drama Starring: Muna Obiekwe Rating: 80% A refreshing movie with a refreshing story line. I actually really, really, enjoyed this Nollywood movie. One of the few Nollywood movies that I would be willing to re-watch. I am happy there are still talented script writers in Nigeria. I think the director could have fixed somethings but those mistakes can be ignored because of how good this movie is. |

i think nigerian movies need to work on adding synopses to their productions. often times, only the movie title and poster get released, no word on what the movie is actually about. as for rating, forget it. i mean pg [film] ratings, etc. |
