Leaving The U.s.a To Nigeria For Good. by oldbende: 5:42pm On Jan 20, 2011
I always think of going back to Nigeria , The stress here is just too much maybe am not strong enough, meanwhile I open this topic to some of my friends, I called every body on my phone book to ask them if they think about the stress here or if the even felt the stress at all but was surprise to know that almost every body is tired of this country but just want to be regarded by people in Nigeria as one who lives in the states.

So I live in North Carolina for three years now and want to move back to Nigeria with my little savings at least 2 Million Naira, do you guys think I'm running mad, I'm getting ready to purchase my ticket but I need to make sure am not making any mistake that's why I bring this topic here.

old boy, take a chill pill.relax.
funny enough the global economic meltdown is about settling down in Nigeria now, although the crude oil prices is on the up ,which might help the economy.
think out logically your plans be4 you go to nija, $2mill. will last for how long?
maybe 6 months if you r the shrewd type.
Re: Leaving The U.s.a To Nigeria For Good. by ElRazur: 6:05pm On Jan 20, 2011
I noticed you mentioned 3 years - Of living there, or is it more?

Three years is nothing. It is usually, the "finding your feet" period etc.

At the end of the day, the decision is yours. If you feel naija is less stressful, then go for it. I will however urge you to think about your choices carefully. Some things you take for granted over there may not be readily available in naija.

Having said that, you know your self better than anyone. Good luck. I hope whatever decision you make works well for you.

It will be suicidal for you to come back to nigeria ath this point. The economic meltdown is just settling in nigeria now. Its better to endure the stress there than enjoy the life of suffering but smiling (hardship) in nigeria
Re: Leaving The U.s.a To Nigeria For Good. by buzugee(m): 6:28pm On Jan 20, 2011
i totally feel your pain bro. i currently live in america and it is an extremely stressful country. very harsh place to live. wouldnt wish it on my enemy. having said that make sure that you have enough to at least cash down for a small bungalow in nigeria. once accommodation in nigeria is removed from the equation, everything else is jollof.

This is the 2nd time, i am reading your post!

I left the US after about 5yrs, after going to Nigeria for 1yr, i had to return. .think well, pray!

Alot of people are going to nigeria, but dont be surprised that all those people going will start returning back soon too if things dont pick up back in Nigeria.

All i can say is Dont Do it!. .

Abeg you guys should stay back wherever you are. The lesser the population of Naija, the better.
Re: Leaving The U.s.a To Nigeria For Good. by KaluAkanu: 10:47pm On Jan 20, 2011
While millions of Nigerians are trying to get to the West, you have some people who cannot make it in the U.S. trying to go back home.

People back home will view you as a failure. Just saying. . . Running away wont solve anything, because if you cannot succeed in the U.S, how are you going to succeed in Nigeria, which is much harder?

Take a vacation instead @Poster. Move to Nigeria for 3 to 6 months and then make your decision afterwards/
Re: Leaving The U.s.a To Nigeria For Good. by violent(m): 12:08am On Jan 21, 2011
What are you doing now?

What would you like to do in another 10 years?

In between lies your answer on where your dreams are best fulfilled.

If you have a sound business plan in mind, and you are looking to raise a family in an environment you are more familiar with, then it's a smart move to move back home.
If you are planning to start up with 2 million in Naija, you had better be selling services as a consultant in a specialist occupation such as fraud consultancy, cloud computing and all that shyt, and you had better start networking your contacts as soon as you land in Muritala.

Otherwise, it's a dog eat dog world out there, you'd have to put in your blood, tears and sweat to get anything out of it!

lol, you are crazy, grin

Nigeria is not ready for cloud computing , or is it ?

But fraud consultancy is a good idea, any Nigerian will excel in such a position. grin

Three years that means if you married to a citizen you can file for your citizenship. I'll suggest you get your citizenship first before making plans to return to Nigeria so if it don't work out in Nigeria, you can always come back to the states.

And if you only a green card holder and not married to a citizen then it sucks for you because you'll have to wait for another 2 years before you can file for citizenship.

1 million percent right.

except he is an illegal immigrant, if he is not, coming back to the mad house Nigeria before getting his green card is sheer madness.

But fraud consultancy is a good idea, any Nigerian will excel in such a position.

Fraud consultancy is a good line, i have a number of friends that have ventured into it and to them they aren't ever going to look back, what you need is the right qualification and experience. and you are right bro, if you are a Nigerian, you are bound to excel in such fields, all Nigerians learn a thing or two about fraud consulting growing up.

as for cloud computing, Nigeria's is still plagued by it's bane on internet services, but given a few years down the line, all that is set to fade away totally, and more businesses will seek ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs

probably not, considering he'd have to spend a part of it bribing officials at the point of entry!

I just feel you are home sick, take a holiday back home and see things for yourself before you make the final decision.

At the very least, get permanent residency/citizenship first before you leave so that if things don't work out in naija you have an escape plan/some flexibility.

Doesn't make sense to leave the US in haste. Act in haste and you'll regret in leisure  wink

@OP take a vacation as suggested. unless your immigration status is somehow then you might want to wait until you get your green card.
even if you decide to go back w/o permanent status, it's still your call. how old are you? if your parents are doing ok in naija, you could also live off them for a while (if your 2m is not enough) before you find your feet.
goodluck

Agreed 100%. At least your suffering in the US has hope of good times if you can push through it. 2mill wont get you very far at home, and unless you have a plush job lined up, suck it up (like the rest of us). Who knows what another 3 years will bring? Probably better circumstances.
