Tope4all:

The calculation for the cheapest network today in Nigeria goes like this:
Based on #100 air time
Etisalat = 100-20 = 80.
80/15 = 5.3 min on all Ntwk

Airtel 100-36 = 64 +1min
64/12 = 6.3min on all Ntwk

MTN 100-30 = 70+ 1min
70/15 = 5.6mins on MTN Ntwk alone

GLO 100/15 = 6.7mins on All Ntwrk

Based on this, Glo is the best and closely follwed by AIrtel, then Etisalat.

AIRTEL 64/12 IS NOT 6.7 BUT 5.3

As far i'm concern AIRTEL and GLO are the best

Honestly, in terms of tarriff, GLO is the best. I beat my chest on that. With the GLO INFINITO product, u can call @ d cheapest rate ever. No daily rental, no hidden charges, no first minute charges. It's just 25k per second (15 Naira per minute) to all networks. To migrate, just dial *103*1*1# and follow d instruction on d reply you'll receive. As simple as dat. Truly the best, i can assure you!

As at today, the cheapest network for me is MTN! Surprised? I will prove it.

My wife and I live in different cities and I call her at least 20mins everyday, which is N240 @ N12 per min.

Now, with her number as my magic number, I call her for FREE 24/7 and guess what? Its FREE when she calls me too. And I also call five local numbers (4 MTN) and 1 intl at N12 per min. This has cut my phone bill by almost 60%!!!

However, I get to pay N250 monthly, but its still a great offer cos Etisalat's N20 x 30 days = N600 monthly. Airtel's extra N24 x 30days = N720  monthly.

Therefore MTN works for me!!!

250 for just one number is not what i'll base the cheapest network on. What about those who call many numbers. From what i've seen glo and airtel are the cheapest

dis calculation is wrong on d part of mtn cos wen they charge u 50kobo per second on the 1st call, it changes to 20kobo from the second minute making it N12  a minute after the N30 for the first minute so if u re-calculate u will be using 70/12 +1min= 6.8mins on a N100 basis which is about the best figure from all the above calculation. so 4now mtn.
Re: The Cheapest Network To Call Now Is Etisalat by slackjack(m): 3:56pm On Jan 24, 2011
Check this out all of you who say that Airtel or Glo is cheaper than Etisalat. Using a N200 naira recharge and usage to compare the three network since obviously MTN restricts its subscriber to only 6 networks to enjoy its 20k tariff.

200
Proposition Easy Life Infinito 2good
Tariff/min (N) 15 15 12
MOU on N200 recharge 12.0 13.3 14.67
You&ME 10.0 0.0 0
BOIC 1.0 0.0 0
Total Call minutes 23.0 13.3 14.67

with this figures Etisalat is sure in the lead not to talk about 15MB of free data weekly on a recharge of N200.
Re: The Cheapest Network To Call Now Is Etisalat by Nobody: 4:14pm On Jan 24, 2011
Why don't u calculate it like this.

@ per second billing, how much will it cost u to make a 15mins call on each gsm network.

Glo: 25k/sec x 15mins = N225

Airtel: 20k/sec x 14min + 60k/sec x 1min = N204

Mtn: 25k/sec x 14min + 50k/sec x 1min = N240

Etisalat: 25k/sec x 15min + N20 daily rental = N245

AIRTEL is the cheapest. . . . Remember a lot of us are on per second billing

i dont susbcribe to you making a conclusion based on just the figures given here

Glo and their 25k per sec is not nationwide.
Airtel and their 20k per sec very good is commendable but only those who talk for long actually get the true value of the tariff.
How the did you arrive at that tariff rate for MTN, please try checking their tariff once again, the reduction on their plan was only done for the 6 F & F numbers.
So all in all Etisalat gives you great value on their Plans Either Easy Starter or the Reloaded Easy Cliq.

note that it is only applicable on the PAYGO F&F. otherwise it is 50k per sec.
While on Talkon it is 25k per sec after d first min.
Both can enjoy registering a magic no for #250 per month. with it u make a free call to d number for 30 days. Am using it and it's simply, whaoo!

To absolve myself of any sentiment, I will like to say I use both Glo and MTN. But going by the rate of Airtel, I feel Airtel (which does 20K /sec, not minding the first minute charges) is the cheapest followed by Glo ( which charges 25k/ sec without daily rental charges) followed by Etisalat (which is also 25k/sec but with daily rental). The worse of them all is MTN for making voice calls

For the internet, MTN does unlimited download package as cheap as N15k for 30 days at a speed of 256kbps which can be connected up to 15 computers at the same time. I have not said its the cheapest internet package buy that is what I use and I have not seen a better package as long as price and unlimited downloads are concerned

I have not asked you to connect 15 systems but I am telling you that its been done. Prove me wrong and I will take you to where its being used. Moreso, you have the choice of higher speed of 1mbps or 512kbps
Meanwhile, 15 systems cant be downloading big files at the same time. I am not in any way related to any of MTN group

The calculation for the cheapest network today in Nigeria goes like this
Based on #100 air time
Etisalat = 100-20 = 80.
80/15 = 5.3 min on all Ntwk

Airtel 100-36 = 64 +1min
64/12 = 6.3min on all Ntwk

MTN 100-30 = 70+ 1min
70/15 = 5.6mins on MTN Ntwk alone

GLO 100/15 = 6.7mins on All Ntwrk

Based on this, Glo is the best and closely follwed by AIrtel, then Etisalat

This calculation is utter disorder. the first minute on both MTN and Airtel cannot be treated as access charge.

For Airtel - First Minute is N36.00 while subsequent calls are charged at N12. Thus the access charge is 36 - 12 which is N18. anyone calling longer than 5 minutes a day has no business using any line other than Airtel.

For 6 minutes
Etisalat costs N20 + (15 x 6 mins) 72 = N92.00
Airtel - N18 + (12 x 6) 72                  =  N90.00
MTN - N15 + (15 x 6) N90                  = N102.00
GLO - N15 x 6                                    = N90.00

Basis -
MTN - First Min is 50k a second which is N30.00 a minute
         subsequent calls @ 25k a second is N15/min. Access charge is 30 - 15 which is  N15.00

Airtel - First Min 60k /sec which is 36.00
Further calls @20k/sec is N12.00/min ; Access charge is N36-12 which is N18.00

It is a matter of choice really but simple law of economics tells us to mitigate our losses. It isnt all the time that people generate money with phone calls. Indeed, people see it as a mark of affluence when they engage in endless calls in public. Arrant nonsense!

From the foregoing, as you step beyond 6 minutes a day, your best deal is Airtel. Flashers can remain on their preferred networks but businessmen who are on prepaid platforms should think Airtel.

lm not calling for a debate on this but as I am a telecom prostitute. I go on any network that gives me lowest rates, there is no reason for undue his sentimentalism. By the time a regular user sums up his tel expenses in a month, you will realise you can buy a good TM Lewin/ Hawes & Curtis shirt.

The thread here is worrisome as it depicts bad financial planning.

My one cent.

For u that asked, the tariff I used for mtn was based on their talkon package, The paygo is still 50k/sec. U can send 402 to 131 to migrate n confirm. (don't worry first migration for d month is free)

Its only for mtn-mtn calls though, mtn to other networks is more expensive when u compare it with other networks "inter-network" tariffs.
