Jonathan In Secret Talks To Bring Ibori Back To Nigeria[/b]

SaharaReporters has learnt from several authoritative sources that Nigeria's ruler, Goodluck Jonathan, is seeking a deal with the UK and United Arab Empire (UAE) to allow former Governor James Ibori of Delta State to return to Nigeria.

A source within the Jonathan administration familiar with the details of the deal said that Mr. Jonathan is “trying to persuade Britain and Dubai that to let Chief Ibori come back to Nigeria for a trial that would be a soft landing.”

Mr. Ibori, who is currently being held in Dubai, has lost his legal battles to avoid extradition to the UK where prosecutors have prepared a case file detailing his extensive money laundering activities during the eight years he ran Delta State. Several of Mr. Ibori’s associates, including his wife, Theresa Nkoyo Ibori, mistress Udoamaka Okoronkwo (nee Onuigbo), sister, Christine Ibori-Ebie, and his London-based lawyer, XXY, have been convicted by a Southwark Crown Court on money laundering charges. Most of them are serving five-year jail terms.

A high level diplomatic source told Saharareporters that the delay in repatriating Mr. Ibori to London was as a result of the highly secretive negotiations that Mr. Jonathan initiated with the government of Britain to facilitate the embattled former governor’s return to Nigeria.

“President Jonathan is assuring Britain that James Ibori will be tried by a Nigerian court, but the deal is to offer Chief Ibori the same kind of trial given to Mrs. Cecilia Ibru,” said a source, a member of Mr. Jonathan’s inner circles.

SaharaReporters sources said Jonathan not only bought the plan to have Ibori face trial in Nigeria but is also using all kinds of inducements to secure British cooperation. “He’s offering more concessions to UK oil interests in Nigeria to ensure that his proposal on Ibori is endorsed,” said a source.

Once the UK gives its assent, the proposal would then be sent to the monarchy in the UAE who will send Ibori back to Nigeria – to face another kangaroo trial.

And what good wld Ibori's return do Jonathan? Is it to please Uduaghan who already has waning support in his state, the Urhobos amongst whom Ibori is a constant source of embarassment or perharps help in restoring the cabal he worked tooth and nail to dismantle? Someone pls tell me which.
Junk and sensational reporting as this sometimes make me see the sense in China's strict internet regulation. SR is doing no more than fuelling misinformation and inciting hatred under the guise of freedom of speech. Deadly weapons shld be kept from the hands of foolz and I think the internet and Sowore are as dangerous as Ahmedinajad and a nuclear weapon - ask Rwandans!

GEJ should do his home work well.

Really, I have wonder, much in the line of wesley80, what GEJ, other than further tarnish his fast sinking credibility, stands to gain from the return of Ibori?

sometimes it gets hard to believe these reports because the implications are that Jonathan's favor is available for purchase and pretty cheap too.

If Jonathan's bubble should burst it won't be a pretty sight at all, he should be treading much more carefully not like an elephant in a china shop.

PDP boys always get a soft landing as long as they are no longer a threat.

Let's watch and see.

I will take this report with a spoon pinch of salt,Sahara reporters was long deleted from my list of credible online news sources

Why would GEJ ever do such a thing??

Anybody that contemplates it,GEJ or otherwise will have to contend with the wrath of Deltans for the rest of their lives

@rasputin
Wrath of Deltans? Which Delta are you talking about? Ibori may not have much fans on the internet but he sure has a lot of people who love him. Ask teachers and civil servants in Delta State. Ask the market women. Ibori built bridges in Delta State, he tared roads, he built three polytechnics and a college of Physical education. You must be talking of some other Delta state. U want to create the impression that Ibori is hated in Delta State. Early in 2010, traditional rulers and leaders from Delta Central visited him in Oghara urging him to go for Senate because since Dafinone's time, the Urhobos have not seen a vibrant representation. Many of the Urhobo leaders who were angry with him because of Uduaghan's election in 2007 have forgiven him.It is no propaganda, but many Deltans will celebrate his return, just as those who hate him will be heart broken!
Yes, Jonathan should bring him back. He chased him out in the first place. Now he has achieved his aim. Sometimes our sense of objectivity is blinded by bias and hatred. Why did the US not extradict Cheney their VP when Nigeria requested for his extracdition to face corruption allegations in connection with the Halliburtion issue? You apostles of anti-corruption, where were u all?

^^^ r u for real? Which Ibori is loved by Deltans? Pls if u've got nothing to say abeg blow whistle. It is a fact that Ibori is still accepted by the Urhobo (his bday is usually an event for the U.P.U-Urhobo Progressive Union) and Delta elite but that was only becos he was too big and influential to be ignored and some civil servants still luv him 4 being the one that made the money 'go round'. Elsewhere, he's seen as nothing more than a common criminal and a source of embarassment to the state. Last time some group of pple had a solidarity march 4 Ibori in Warri, it degenerated into a huge fight when the marchers got to the predominantly Urhobo area of Effurun cos they wldnt have their lives disrupted 4 some common criminal. Outside Oghara, Ibori is nothing but a Liability. Ask Udughan!

Hah bruv. I used to think like you before. Countering all "crazy" speculations from NEXT and SR about GEJ actions. There was a particular one when they claimed he imported dust-bin from UK. I took the pain to investigate with a Nigerian friend that works where he he is the know of all imported materials from Europe into Naija by Govt and para status.

GEJ has given freedom to a killer: Folarin to get votes. He has celebrated looters (OBJ and OGD) making sure he keeps all of them in his camp for April election. He has kept mum as Ohakim disrespectfully scatter a peaceful meeting of some Igbo leaders. He has absolved criminals of wrongdoing even when they had claimed responsibilty in the Abuja bombing saga.

So how difficult will it be for a man of this character to help another thief (Ibori) if that will mean one more vote. For all GEJ cares honesty, reasons, and decorum can be thrown to the dogs just for him to win the presidential election.

I am not surprised tho. .its not more than what a PDP government can do

GEJ shame on you if you allow this to happen!

I know too well that GEJ is just being tooooooo desperate to cling to power hence he's been involved in all sorts of horrible and unthinkable moves just to ensure he wins the selection in April; But I still cannot believe this particular piece from SR.
