Context and location
The site is 600 square meter land area which located in medium dense, semi detached, without any physical and building typology from one and another.

The client came to us with a particular vision of garden house, which can maximize a correlation to outdoor space from within. From client’s brief of room program, come to quite huge area of 800 square meter, which should be located within limited site.

Architectural concept

In respond to limited site, compare to huge program. we try to elaborate and combine two courtyard spaces, which arranged vertically and super impose each other.

First courtyard was put on raised ground floor, which can be act also as a transition and buffer area from public space in front and rear, semi public, living room. Second courtyard located on the second floor, which will be act as intermediate outdoor space from master bedroom and surrounding neighborhood.

Consequently, the above layer of courtyard should be able to be penetrated by sunlight and natural air to give life to courtyard below.

We decide to apply shallow reflecting pond within above courtyard and using glass as a base of it, to allow daylight penetrate the courtyard and room below.

The shadow of moving water during daytime from reflecting pond, give a sense of nature inside the foyer room below. We also craft few voids / holes within second layer courtyard to give an access to daylight and air to room below.

Swimming pool was located on the first courtyard, ground floor, according to the requirement zoning, and in the same time, act a daylight reflector to this outdoor space.

The material used in this building has a light and bright, earthy color scheme to achieve a sense of natural, contemplative and serene living environment.

Faber Park

Faber Park. The clients for this Project are a couple with three young children, – a set of twins and a younger child, all under 10. Their main aim was to maximise outdoor space whilst not compromising living areas. It was therefore essential that there would be sufficient space for the children to play outdoors as well as indoors. The priority of creating an open living space with a direct relationship to a large outdoor space became a driving force in the scheme.

The overall concept, derived from the clients’ requirements, was to create a living space open to the outdoors in a clean contemporary aesthetic. The building would need to allow fluid movement between each space within and perform as a sustainable mechanism.

BlProject description:

A collaborative effort between Prefabricated Home developer Blue Sky Homes LLC and Palm Springs based Architect Lance O’Donnell of o2 Architecture; this 1,000 SF home is located in the Mojave Desert region at 4,000’ above sea level. The program called for a sustainable, modestly scaled residence to serve as a prototype for a prefabricated line of homes. Special attention was paid to site placement and building orientation. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s “Domino”; the building contains a pure structure of columns and planes. Adaptability is created by the non-load bearing walls and openings that can be moved within the structure to satisfy a variety of site conditions.

The home is positioned above the site on moment-resisting columns and beams of cold-formed, light gauge steel. The building envelope is composed by a grid of pre-manufactured wall panels and standardized building components. uesky
