THOSE who died in the recent stampede at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium did not die in vain, says wife of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Dame Patience Jonathan, who spoke, weekend, in Port Harcourt, when she visited families of the bereaved, said the memories of those who died would continue to be celebrated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Noting that they died for democracy, the First Lady said the Federal Government will not abandon the families they left behind.

Dame Jonathan, who travelled to the villages of the bereaved families, before visiting Government House, Port Harcourt, where she condoled with Governor Chibuike  Amaechi, also addressed the survivors of the stampede.

According to her, the victims of the stampede have paid the price for democracy in Nigeria.

Dame Jonathan, who also delivered a letter of condolence to Governor Amaechi, prayed for quick recovery of the survivors, and urged them not to be deterred by the incident, but to continue to support the PDP, Rivers State Governor and Mr President, who they came to identify with.

The First Lady prayed God to give Governor Amaechi the strength to bear the loss, stressing that the Governor has come to deliver Rivers people, and God would help him to deliver the state from the shackles of poverty and under-development.

Dame Jonathan had earlier visited the families of the late Mrs Ucheoma Wokama inErema, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Late Mrs Caroline Enyindia, Ubima, in Ikwerre Government Area, Late Mr Felix Nwiaga, Leader of Tai Legislative Assembly at Botem Tai,  and Mrs Fanny Micah at Niger Street in Port Harcourt, where she sympathized with the families they left behind.

She assured them that the state and Federal Government would  support the bereaved families while regretting that those who died left at the time when they were most needed to translate the principle of one man one vote into action in the election process in the country.

Re: P-harcourt Stampede Victims Didn’t Die In Vain – First Lady by Nobody: 11:04am On Feb 21, 2011
so she was the one that brought presidential jet to Port Harcourt and caused all that traffic in town.

Noting that they died for democracy, the
First Lady said the Federal Government will
not abandon the families they left behind.

Am I reading this wrong? Are citizens supposed to be dying for a democracy they supposedly already have?

another gaffe by the first illiterate

they did not die for democracy - they died because of gej's poorly handled crowd control.

dying in a stampede in a pdp convention is not 'dying for democracy'

you want people who are dying for democracy - look no farther than egypt , tunisia, libya

nigerians also stuck their necks out for democracy when they took to the streets when turai had gej wetting his pants and hiding in a corner.

kindly stop insulting our sensibilities with your incoherence

and kindly stop insulting martyrs like kudirat abiola, alfred rewane, by equating their ultimate sacrifice, lone men and women facing up to all powerful tyrants at the height of their powers with going to a convention for an incumbent party that is bent on do or die

nonsense

even the king of rascals - tinubu has done more for democracy than your husband and the pdp twats . i wonder where gej was when nadeco was slugging it out with abacha

now we have illiterates from pdp - blathering

while we weep for the dead, we cannot compare thier deaths, which were due to incompetence FOR WHICH AS USUAL, NO ONE IS BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR , with the deaths of true nigerian patriots at the hands of our security agencies.

can some one tell us if those who died in the october 1 bomb blast also died for democracy?

note that the october 1 bomb blast is a direct indictement of johnathan and the sss. THEY HAD ADVANCE WARNING FROM MEND , BUT RATHER THAN WARN THE CITIZENRY OF THE DANGERS, THEY WENT ON WITH THE SHOW, WHILE INSTITUTING HARPHAZARD ATTEMPTS THAT WERE TRUNCATED BY THE RAIN .

all those deaths were avoidable

let us not also forget those who dies when 'dame' patience decided to pull a ranka ya de de and throw rice at people like they were starving almajiris or farm animals. did those people also die for democracy?

please spare us the hypocritical pontifications and the miserable attempts to appear presidential

Like husband, like wife. Wife of a drunken fisherman - I can see. You are equally running your rascal mouth without guarding your statements. For how long must these set of incompetent glorified beings continue to punish the senses of intelligent Nigerians?

If you have nothing intelligent to say, please keep shut. How dare you say, these people died for democracy. Do you even understand what you mean by that statement dear Dame Jonathan? What is the price of democracy if I may ask you?

Has your husband caught the police officer(s) responsible for the death of these people?

Pack of murderers!

Taking advantage of people's death to campaign further for pdp is just plain wrong. Imagine using the opportunity to tell the survivors to keep supporting pdp. Is that what her condolence visit should be about? Smh

Dumb (I mean to say Dame) Patience always gets it wrong. Wrong occurence (needless death of jobless people), wrong person to go on condolence (illiterate woman who is does not know how to tell the time), wrong choice of dress (she used th occasion to display her latest george and jeweleries), wrong reception (the woman in the picture does not like Lame Patience and turned away.

What price for democracy, or you mean price for your husband's desperation to hold on to power

Even is she said they will not die in vain. .rather than they did not die in vain, we can translate it to mean they want GEJ to be president and he will be. .but what is this f.oolish talk

It gets clearer what GEJ is all about, desperate fisherman!

@RICHIE BOI,
u are right. we pray that in the next pdp rally, u will be the one to die for democracy while dame patience will visit ur family and we will be here to commend her.

@topic,
this woman lacks infomation like her husband.
are we in colonialism? if yes, her husband is our colonial master. democracy indeed. is she saying what we had before now was not democracy? the families of those who died serving nigeria have been forgotten since talkless of those who died attending pdp rallies.
the ocultic powers of pdp who were using air misharps to get the needed blood have now turned to stampede and northern problems.
give us buhari/bakare come 2011
Re: P-harcourt Stampede Victims Didn’t Die In Vain – First Lady by Orikinla(m): 4:55pm On Feb 21, 2011
This is what we have to tolerate as citizens of a country ruled by apes of jungle democracy.

Those who died never sacrificed their lives for democracy, because they were members of the RENT A CROWD PLC of the PDP and were unfortunate victims of the stupidity of the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation that failed woefully in security just like President Goodluck Jonathan has failed woefully to secure lives in many states in Nigeria.

The SSS is a national embarrassment, because the security agents are annoyingly primitive.
Where and how were they trained?

Oh, God save Nigeria from these vipers in power.

Only if you know.

In a sensible government, they would have told us the officer(s) responsible for the death of those people.

In a sensible government, the president's wife would not even open her mouth to say this nonsense alleged to her.

In a sensible government, the religious crises experienced in the north would have been resolved.

In a sensible government, we would not have people dying on October 1, 2010 bomb blast and the culprits accused thereof, now joining the government to campaign for another election 2011.

In a sensible government, heads would have rolled for the deaths that occurred at Port-Harcourt.

In a sensible government, a president would guard what he says.

In a sensible government, a president who dithers on nuances, would have apologized and probably think of resigning or the senate considering impeachment proceedings against for failing to apologize.

But alas, Nigeria has been blessed with a senseless, clueless government for the last 12 years! What do we know??

The madness has to stop. PDP has to go.
