Good news for Nigeria -

but do bear in mind that the reason the bill was passed was simply down the fact that  two thirds of house will not be returning in the next parliamentary session and it is seen as way of throwing spanners in the works.
Re: House Passes Freedom Of Information Bill by rebranded(m): 9:22pm On Feb 24, 2011
^^^^ Very true, most of them didnt get a return ticket by their parties

This still needs to get passed by the upper house

according to abike dabiri, it is actually a stronger bill than the one they earlier wanted to pass. .so NASS is making 'good things happen'

we still want PDP out tho. .we cant wait till the end of a tenure or because of spite to work for the people

Good news, we will see what will happen to this bill. Will GEJ have the guts to sign it into law? Knowing what he did in Bayelsa? We may just have to wait for another president or pressure him to sign it. I doubt if he would want to do this especially if he intends to rig the elections. Not too optimistic here.

Re: House Passes Freedom Of Information Bill by Nsiman(m): 9:50pm On Feb 24, 2011
Its impossible 4 the bill to be assented to b4 april due to the fact that the upper arm has not passed theirs and harmonised by both chambers. Gej will definately assent it if it is ok.

New Development but am sure dat it wuld be delayed till d election is over. It was only made to deceive and make us think that GEJ is an open minded person who thinks about his country pple, This is just a campaign strategy, *am not interested*

FORMER vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he is ready to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the April general election, President Goodluck Jonathan, provided the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) gives the go-ahead to do so.

Speaking through his media aide, Garba Shehu, on a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service, on Wednesday, Abubakar said that since his aspiration for the PDP presidential ticket in the last party primary was a consensus by the Northern elders, he would have no option if the same group directed him to support the Goodluck\Sambo ticket.

Shehu said: “We all know that the choice of Atiku Abubakar for the party primary was a consensus by the Northern Elders; it is the same body that will direct him on what to do next since he has resolved to remain in the PDP fold, so it is not a decision for him to take alone just like that.”

He said that the former vice-president, who lost the PDP presidential ticket to Jonathan in the party primary last month, would act according to the directives of the Northern Elders Forum as soon as talks were completed because, according to him, “he is a lover of peace and wants democracy to be sustained in the country.”

If the president refuses to assent it,the bill would be re-sent to the senate, and if the senate passes it again,it becomes a law.

When i saw the article, that was my conclusion. However, i hope the version of bill that was passed is not an adulterated version.

Gbenge 77:

If the president refuses to assent it,the bill would be re-sent to the senate, and if the senate passes it again,it becomes a law.

This scenario only happens in an ideal situation where the structures are people-oriented. Na so dem teach us for our govt textbooks.
The senate might even delay the passing of the bill for political reasons. Even if they pass it, they may decide not to present it for assent on time. Do you remember what happened to Electoral Amendment bill?
My point is that, if they submit it to gej for assent and the guy does not sign. Then, that is a doom for the Nigerian people because automatically it means that the presidency is not in support of the bill.
And what do you think will be end of the bill? As am sure u know, NASS are not that patriotic, what they would end up doing is to negotiate with the presidency - CORRUPTION.
At the end of the whole game, an adulterated version would  be passed.
