Why Is Gaddafi A Pan-africanist When Arabs Generally Dont Like 'black' Africans? by pleep(m): 6:04am On Feb 26, 2011
Qaddafi calls for a United states of Africa. And he is said by some to be the De facto leader of the pan-africanist movement. however, Africans are genrally not regarded well in Arab countries. where they are called Kushim or Abeed meaning "slave " or "subhuman"
Do North African Countries really want to Unite with Sub Saharan Africa?, and why is Gaddafi's viewpoint on "black Africa" so different than so many other people in his region.

Anyone know?

It hardly matters anymore cos he's on his way out. And rightfully so. I think there should be a United States of Africa South of the Sahara, ie EXCLUDING North Africa.

@Poster, your question is not clear. Ghaddafi has rarely ever hidden his true self from the people of black Africa . . . from his many speeches making it clear that he too thinks low of them to his recent calls for to be installed as King of Africa, I am not certain what your question is about.

tpiah!:

since he's berber and rather traditional it seems, its likely he either has some black or mixed relatives in his family, or at some point has interacted closely with darker skinned people while he was growing up.

just finding out now that he used to meet people in the traditional bedoiun tents:

and his son saif looks a bit black, actually.

haha, thats a little odd but a great way to preserve his berber culture! its also interesting that he choses to always wear traditional N. African clothing which is surprisingly similar to the shahelien clothing ppl wear in N. Nigeria. ill bet another part of his pan-africanism was a desire for more cultural unity and some sort of cultural independance from the developed world.

Ghaddafi is not a pan africanist. He is a rank opportunistic megalomaniac looking for absolute power. He is not interested in the plight of black africans, he just wants to rule over them, two totally different things. Once the Arabs rejected his overtures because they rightly conclude that he is a crazy mad dog did he turn his eyes towards Africa. It baffles me the defenders he has in SS Africa when he views them with utter contempt. Just check out his statements about black Africans to the Italians when he shook them down to tune of 4 billion dollars to stop blacks from invading their piece of shit country. Please, it is a canard that Ghaddafi is a pan africanist.

That man is very degusting, see how he was looking today during an interview.
A damn liar, he has agreed to drop the crises as he was scared of the arriver of some EU troops in Libya.
After he announced to cessed, his boys still keep bombing.
He hate the blacks, but he was still voted by the blacks, who is fooling who here??
They are all birds of same feather (religion) power gave him the position he is holding today.
Freaky bad looking man no matter how he is dressed on.
Who say Obasanjo is urgly Kadhafi is the urgliest jare.
Hope He don't get away this time. I hate his character with passion.

There is a simple answer to the question.

When Ghaddafi came to power, he was pan-Arab. His idea was to unite the whole of the Arab world with him at the head.
The Arabs saw this and laughed in his face. They wanted nothing to do with him.

As that door closed, he turned to Africa and tried to do the same. His new idea was to create a "United Africa" with him as the head.

Ghaddafi doesn't care about black Africans. He only cares about setting himself up as a dictator over as many people as he can.

Ghadaffi want to be a force 2b reckoned with in africa and a challenge to the developed nations hence his overtures and sit tight regime. But unfortunately his sit tight reign now backfires with a perfect opportunity of the present quest for his deposition. A GAME OF POWER!

That is true. GGaddafi was no arab, or at least not considered Arab enough by the Arabians. He was a berber, an African indege. There are black and white berbers and everything in between.

His mother is rumoured to have black blood, which one can confirm in this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JYRbMEv4tw

see 2:20. His parents dressed just as the sahalian people N. Nigerian.
