From BOLU-OLU ESHO, Ado-Ekiti

Friday, March 25, 2011
Ekiti State Police Command has raised the alarm over arms stockpile by politicians in the state ahead of the April elections.

This is coming on the heels of the killing of two members of Peoples democratic Party (PDP) in Kota area of Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government Area on Wednesday by some suspected thugs in police uniform.

As if the Wednesday killing was not enough, another chieftain of the PDP, Mr. Toyin Akinlade, who is the organising secretary of the party in Ido-Osi Local Government Area, was killed on Wednesday night by some unknown men at Ilogbo in local council area.

Confirming the killing of Akinlade, a statement signed by the state Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Adamu, on behalf of the state police commissioner, read: “Information at our disposal shows that some politicians are planning to use thugs with arms and ammunition to intimidate eligible voters from casting their votes.”

The late PDP chieftain was said to have been abducted by his assailants at his shop in Igbole and was later killed at Ilogbo about 15 killometre away.

The killing of Akinlade, who was said to be a popular and prominent PDP chieftain in the local government area, was confirmed by the spokesman of the state police command, Mohammed Jimoh (ASP), saying investigation into his killing would commence immediately. Politicians were, however, advised by the police command to “strictly adhere to the provisions of the electoral law in the conduct of elections and adequately control their supporters during rallies.”

Warning politicians not to engage thugs to cause violence in the state, the police vowed that “any politician, who engages thugs to cause violence in the state, would be dealt with according to the law, no matter how highly placed in the society.” The public was enjoined to inform the police whenever they suspected any politician, stockpiling arms and ammunition in the state, stating that “the police is here to protect everybody.”

Another member of PDP, Lere Olayinka, an aide to former Governor Segun Oni, raised the alarm yesterday that some people were after his life due to his role in posting on the Facebook the picture of the corpse dumped in front of the Governor’s Office on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ado-Ekiti chapter, yesterday expressed fear over the spate of political killings in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state chairman of the association, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, chronicled activities of politicians in the state, starting from the dissolution of local government executives to the Wednesday killings in Omuo-Ekiti and Ilogbo-Ekiti. Describing the killing, as “most reckless, barbaric and unwarranted,” he demanded that the state Governor, Kayode Fayemi, and all security agencies in the state should arrest the situation before it escalated to what obtained in Jos, Plateau State.

Ajayi expressed fear that the situation could escalate to a situation that victims would want to retaliate if no checked. The NBA chairman called on the Inspector General of Police(IGP) and state Police Command to “institute a high powered panel to unravel the circumstances behind these senseless killings and call his men to order and restrain them from taking sides with politicians.”

The legal practitioners, however, vowed to “take every legitimate step to ensure that the policemen that opened fire and killed defenceless civilians are investigated and brought to book.”

Ekiti ACN suspends senator for alleged forgery

Femi Makinde, Ado-Ekiti

The Action Congress of Nigeria has suspended the Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Bode Ola, over alleged forgery of documents purported to have emanated from the party and Independent National Electoral Commission.

http://odili.net/news/source/2011/mar/25/831.html

The Chairman of the ACN in Ado-Ekiti Local Government, Mr. Oba Aladetoyinbo, announced the suspension of Ola in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.

Ola, who is an indigene of Ado-Ekiti, had gone to Federal High Court in Abuja where he obtained an injunction which stopped the party's candidate in Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Mr. Babafemi Ojudu.

The chairman of the party in the state, Chief Jide Awe, had reported to the police in Ekiti State that Ola forged his signature and some documents which he tendered before the court.

But the senator, who said he was not disturbed by the suspension, said he could not be stopped by the ploy of Ojudu and Aladetoyinbo.

Ola said, "The suspension is malicious, unfair and unconstitutional."

He said he remained the candidate of the party despite the suspension because his candidacy had been affirmed by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti State has said that the INEC documents which Ola tendered before the court did not emanate from the commission.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Hussain Pai, said this in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.

He said, "We have replied the ACN and we have told them that the documents did not emanate from us. All the documents and signatures did not come from us."

Ojudu, who addressed a press conference on Thursday, said it was shocking that the senator could be desperate to the extent of forging documents.

The candidate, who expressed the confidence that the court order would be vacated before the election on April 2, said the ACN had directed a Lagos-based lawyer to begin the process of vacating the order.

Ojudu, who made loads of documents alleged to have been forged by Ola said that the senator would be made to face the law for his actions.

He said, "Falana got the documents and what he saw was shocking. Bode Ola concocted the documents and figures in four local governments of the senatorial district. The most shocking is that he forged documents and declared himself the winner.

"Bode Ola got the court order based on fake documents and I can't blame the judge. He paid somebody who represented the ACN and the INEC at the court. The order has not been served on the INEC because that would reveal his secret."

While some politically ignorant ones are already ranting here,
I will advice that we ALL wait until after the election before we come here
with the total casualties from each state and zones,
then we can talk about who is FOOLISH, STUPID, or VIOLENT.

There is a precedence on political violence in Nigeria. While the North, East and South South can raise hell during elections, they hardly kill themselves on account of politics. The same cannot be said about the West. Got it? ACN of the south west brought the first indication of political killings to the greater East (Akwa Ibom, now in South South) recently.

Didn't ibos carry out the mother of all political violence in Nigeria to date, by violently overthrowing the first democratically elected government and murdering several elected leaders except those of ibo origin?

What other precedence are you talking about?

How far back in history are you willing to go? Okay! Remember wetie and wild wild west? Awo, omoboriowo, Akintola, the agbekoyas, etc? All which occurred before the coup in which a Yoruba was also a co-mastermind. Does it make sense now?

You can go back as far as you want, no political killings in Nigeria will ever rival the one perpetrated by power hungry ibo officers in their greedy quest to dominate Nigeria.

Omoboriowo and Akintola happened before the coup? Are you really this daft?
Re: Police Raise Alarm Over Arms Stockpile In Ekiti by Adelaide2: 4:55am On Mar 27, 2011
^^^^^^

Mumu I have always known you are an ignoramus par excellence. You do not even know your own checkered history? Go and ask your equally ignorant father when wetie happened.

After the coup (Ironsi>Gowon> Muhammed> Obasanjo>Shagari), there was no civilian regime until Shagari. So when did Akintola happen? See how crassly moronic you are?

You don't know what you are talking about, you are just a confused little puppy. Even your edited post is just as foolish as the original.
