Hi all!

I was seeking advice about a decision I am trying to make. I have a BSc in Psychology from a US university.  I haven't been able to get a job in the states, so I have been advised to go do my masters in Human Resource Management (in US or the UK),  so I can get better qualifications (a bachelors in psychology isn't very helpful in getting a full time job).  However I'm thinking of coming home to Nigeria to do my NYSC so as to test the waters of living in Nigeria for a year.

So these are my options: Do my NYSC this October for a year and then do my masters in HRM after, and then return back to Nigeria to work. OR go do my masters this September and then when I'm done with my masters move back to Nigeria to do my NYSC and after try and get a job in Nigeria. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance. smiley

@ poster

a sincere advice is that you you get your masters programme dine fisr before thinking to come to nigeria

for your N.Y.S.C.

another sincere advice from me is that you try and settle down fully in the US

and create a future and a carrier for yourself.

wishing you the best.

Bros let me tell you the truth about nigerian labour mkt, go and do ur masters first so that you can become more relevant in your specialisation and you can compete with 500,000 umempolyed graduates of psychologist like u. But with ur masters in human resources you may have higher value and relevance than with your ordinary degree. Shine your eye and decide well.

I think you may have better opportunities in Nigeria albeit the unemployment rate.BUT you have to do your masters degree first before returning to Nigeria for your NYSC.Also try and serve in a HR organisation to increase the possibility of being retained after NYSC.

her problem is not about getting a job

her problem is doing her Masters before or after NYSC

NYSC before Graduate School

if you finish your graduate school you know you next target is employment not some inconvenient disruptive exercise called NYSC

@vienna86

If you plan to work in Nigeria,I will advise once again that you do your MASTERS first and then return for your NYSC.That is what many people in your shoes do.I met many of them during my own time.

if she comes back after doing her masters are you saying she wont get a job

cos you are repeating the same thing, how does doing nysc in between your undergraduate and postgraduate hinder your career

this is one funny thing people do why apply for entry level for position with a masters degree?
or why waste time doing nysc with a masters degree- after masters straight to work not otukpo village doing nysc

You seem not to understand.Masters degree will not do much wonders without work experience,i agree @op if you think coming to Nigeria for nysc and then returning to the US for ur masters is the logical thing to do then so be it.To me,I think it is wise you start your career as soon as you complete your nysc, welther with masters degree or undergrad than troubling yourself with another schooling after the nysc stress.I see no point coming back for nysc and then returning for masters and after that you come back again for job.

it's not certain she will come to Nigeria

starting work after masters is better than
starting work after a traumatic nysc

you brain will still be hot or warm at least not recovering from the post traumatic stress called nysc

This is my personal schedule and not necessarily for Nigerian environment
Undergraduate> 2-3 years work experience and/or Gap year and/or deciding your career path or new interest > Postgraduate> Non Entry level work
