No interest in the anti-corruption fight.

In all his years in the presidency, EFCC has been rendered useless. No significant purpose anymore, even Yahoo Yahoo boys aren't caught anymore. Plus, he rewarded all the people Ribadu was able to find guilty.

Nigeria's presidential election is scheduled for April 9; however, at a campaign rally in Lagos on Tuesday, March 1, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the undisputed godfather of current President Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, who is also a candidate in the upcoming election, was full of celebration galore by declaring victory as if the election was over. The event was also attended by Chief Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart who was convicted of corruption by the Nigerian court in 2009 for complicity in an 85 billion naira fraud at the Nigerian Ports Authority where he was Chairman.

According to an account of the campaign rally printed in Nigeria's widely read daily newspaper The Punch, Mr. Obasanjo said to Mr. Jonathan in the presence of other high-ranking members of the ruling PDP: "All that you need from me is to congratulate you. Let us congratulate ourselves for this victory." However, the declaration of victory did not end there. The paper reported that Mr. Obasanjo commenced to sing in Yoruba words literally translated to mean, "Bravo is the song of the day/ Obasanjo cannot condone/Obasanjo would resist if we vote and we don't win."

This declaration of victory is insulting to Nigerian voters. It also underscores concerns that some powerful 'kingmakers,' such as Mr. Obasanjo, like to manipulate the outcome of the elections in Nigeria to suite their own agenda. It suggests that votes do not count and power does not belong to the people in Nigerian democratic society.

There is nothing convincing about Mr. Jonathan since he assumed office after the untimely death of his predecessor, Umaru Yar'Adua, that demonstrates he is adequately prepared to lead the country toward reform, economic prosperity, and to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians by providing jobs for over sixty percent of unemployed Nigerian graduates. Mr. Jonathan is a candidate of PDP, the so-called political party that is nothing more than a lobbying interest group primarily interested in sharing what has been known as 'Nigerian national cake.'

It is not surprising that Mr. Jonathan has been running a rudderless administration with little oversight and replete with fiscal irresponsibility. For example, the Financial Times of London and Nigerian newspaper Next reported earlier this year that investors shun Nigeria's $500 million Eurobond because they are concerned with how $20 billion in the Nigeria Excess Crude Account shrunk to less than $400 million under Mr. Jonathan's watch.

Similarly, Mr. Jonathan's own presidential advisory panel recommended that he reduce the size of his large government to save money for infrastructure development. Rather than heeding this advice, Mr. Jonathan created frivolous portfolios for newly appointed aides, such as an Advisor for Diaspora Affairs. Mediocrity and cronyism also crept into his administration when the Nigerian Senate confirmed the appointment of Mr. Jonathan's nominee for the post of ambassador -- someone who can neither recite the Nigerian national anthem nor explain the duties of the ambassadorial post.

Moreover, the president has refused to engage his opponents in the April 9 elections in debates to discuss the issues, policies and their respective manifestos for Nigerians. Another bizarre twist that was introduced into Jonathan's campaign is an admission of truth by former President Obasanjo that there were zoning agreements in the Peoples Democratic Party between the North and South regarding who would produce Nigeria's presidency. He further suggested that Mr. Jonathan would be a one-term president and that northern Nigeria will produce the next president. This double talk and turncoat behavior by Mr. Obasanjo, a statesman who is expected to rise above partisanship and selfish interests to provide straightforward and truthful communication regarding all areas of national concern, causes Nigeria to be more polarized along ethnic, regional and religious lines. As a result, the country's fragile unity and stability remains more vulnerable than it has ever been before.

The best way for Nigerians to move forward and experience real democracy is to make sure that PDP is voted out of power, otherwise we risk being a perpetual One Party State. A vote for President Jonathan is a vote for four more years of economic stagnation and continued suppression of the Nigerian people by the corrupt political class that has created an abnormal society whereby we have two paradoxical Nigerians -- the Haves and the Have Nots -- who live in two different Nigerias. It is alarming that juvenile delinquency is on the rise in a country with inmates whose age ranges between 8-15. It is also a shame that Nigeria now has first-class and third-class citizens, among others, in pecking order. For example, there are first-class Nigerians like billionaire Aliko Dangote, who made his fortune through his cozy arrangement with Obasanjo's regime, which "encouraged the sell off of State-owned corporations, presidential aircrafts and government properties to Dangote and other questionable businessmen," according to the Sahara Reporters website. While the poor Nigerian masses, including the "Talakawas" on the streets of Kano City in Mr. Dangote's home state can hardly survive on less than $2 a day, our Forbes magazine-ranked richest man in Africa, with an estimated net worth of $13.8 billion, bought himself a 'token' brand new Bombardier Global Express XRS private jet for a mere $45 million for his birthday.

I also think it is high time that former President Obasanjo take a back seat from his usual business of pre-anointing who rules Nigeria. He should let the Nigerian people decide the country's destiny. It is shocking that Mr. Obasanjo had imposed his own preferred candidate as the flag bearer of PDP for gubernatorial elections in his home state of Ogun. I hail from Ogun State, like Mr. Obasanjo, and find it disturbing that he handpicked a septuagenarian former military general with health issues to succeed the outgoing governor of the State, Gbenga Daniel, who has his own political baggage.

Nigerians can make a statement with their votes by rejecting the overtures of PDP, which has been either through buying voters conscience with money or by poll rigging, as was evident in past elections. For example, courts overturned the elections of PDP governors who stole the people's mandates in States like Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun, respectively.

Finally, this presidential election is about fighting for the future of Nigeria between the retrogressive forces that have turned the country into their milking cherry orchard and those who believe in a Nigeria for all. A vote for an alternative party rather than PDP will be good for the country and help to restore the hope that we have a system that works. Mr. Jonathan is a disingenuous character that lacks passion, conviction and gravitas to lead Nigeria to the desired Promised Land.

About $300 Billion dollars spentso far in 12 PDP Years

What do we have to show for all that money? Still

a) No Electricity

b) No good healthcare

c) No good roads

d) Education in dilapidated state

e) No jobs

f) Poverty rate about 30% higher today

These are great reasons to support Jonathan and PDP

I can not vote Jonathan because of grossly incompetent ,It has just been announced that our foreign reserve account last month has gone done by $2 billion while oil price is at $120 dollars today. Adolf Hitler once told his newly appointed Army Chief of Staffs that he should never worry about what to tell the people because the people are gullible, and will believe whatever you tell them.

And that the bigger the lie is the more believable it is to them. Goodluck Jonathan is not, in any way, reminiscent of that psychotic German mass murder. And Nigerians, in their lawless and bunglesome ways are not, at all, akin to the Germans with their ingrained sense of order and acclaimed efficiency. However, Goodluck Jonathan, deliberately or subliminally, must have borrowed from Adolf Hitler. He has taken to lying profusely to Nigerians, and they are, in their gullibility, believing him.

Goodluck Jonathan is promising Nigerians efficient health care delivery system, good roads, and steady supply of electricity among other things. His promises have found resonance amongst Nigerians because superficially they seem reasonable. However, a scrutiny of these promises reveals that they are spurious and questionable. It exposes them as dishonest, manipulative and (should be) insulting to the Nigerian sensibilities.

Why is he promising Nigerians the basic necessities of life? With the enormous money that Nigeria made from oil over so many years and after 12 years of democracy, life for Nigerians should be comfortable. Nigerians should have access to the state of the art hospitals, quality roads, uninterruptable power supply, etc. That Nigerians still lack the basic requirements of modern life, which are available and taken for granted, even, in the very poor countries of Africa is a powerful and palpable indication that something is terrifyingly wrong with the Nigerian system. Therefore, the issue is what is wrong with Nigeria?

What were the effects of the billions of dollars already budgeted and “spent’ on these basic essentials of life that he is now promising us? What is it about the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) abracadabra that the more money they budget and “spend” on public facilities and national institutions, the worse their conditions becomes? These are the questions the president needs to answer for Nigerians. To evade them and gloss them over with promises is deceitful.

It is PDP abracadabra that despite the oil wealth that accrued to Nigeria over the years and the supposedly superb economic policies and programs of a continuum of PDP administrations, the Nigerian economy is moribund and a disproportionate number of Nigerians are trapped in desperate, shackling poverty. Why has the quality of life for the majority of Nigerians decreased in the last 12 years of PDP governance and more and more Nigerians are reduced to dispirited and demoralized masses of people wrenched by hardship and consumed by the endless drudgery for daily survival? The number of Nigerians living below the poverty level increased from 45percent to 70 percent in the same period. Nigeria must be the only oil rich country that ranks with the poorest countries of the world in terms of life expectancy, child mortality and incidence of poverty.

Billions of naira was “spent” by a series of PDP administrations to upgrade public health institutions. Why then has the health care delivery system in Nigeria deteriorated to despicable levels, and more and more of the power elite fly to hospitals in America and Europe for medical treatment and even routine medical check ups? Not surprisingly, in the last 10 years, the average live expectancy in Nigeria decreased from 51 for men and 52 for women to 44 for men and 45 for women. Nigeria has one of the highest pregnancy-related deaths in the world. With 2% of the world’s population, it accounts for 11% of the world’s maternal mortality and 12% of the world’s under-five mortality.

The Obasanjo administration by itself “spent” $16 billion (some estimates put it at $13.1billion) on revamping the power sector and boosting its energy generation capabilities. Still, the present energy output is not appreciably higher than it was 8 years ago. The present total power output in Nigeria is about just as high as it was in 1969.

Similarly, billions of dollars were spent on the construction and renovation of federal roads. Lamentably, the nation’s roads, bridges and other public infrastructures dilapidated further into death traps. A good example is the billions of naira budgeted and re-budgeted and “spent” and re-“spent” on the rehabilitation of Benin/Ore Road. Why is it that till this day, it remains in a very terrible and dangerous state? Accidents on that stretch of road are rife, and are repeatedly claiming human lives. Other examples of PDP abracadabra abound.

Mr. President, decency demands that you answer the above questions for the Nigeria electorate. Long ago, in my undergraduate Urban & Regional Planning program, we were taught that to solve a problem, you must first identify its cause. So, Mr. President, if you cannot answer the above questions, it means that you cannot identify the causes of the country’s social, economic, political, moral and ethical maladies, and as such, cannot solve them as you are promising.

On the other hand, if you have the answers and you are deliberately withholding them from Nigerians, then you are being dishonest to the people. As falsehood has been the hallmark of PDP presidents, it signifies that your re-election to the presidency will buttress the already familiar PDP abracadabra.

After all, you are quite steep in abracadabra. Are you not extolling your administration’s fiscal discipline and responsibility while surreptitiously depleting the country’s foreign reserve? The foreign reserve during your presidency has gone down from $46 billion to $4billion. You are hyping your government’s commitment to law and order and war against corruption, but you are glorifying criminals convicted of corruption and theft of public funds. Did you not send a delegation to welcome Bode George on his return from jail? You breeched the zoning agreement within PDP, and with the help of the former PDP chairman, Okwesilieze Nwodo and his disgusting sophistry, convinced Nigerians that zoning is dead in PDP. But you are promising the Igbo the presidency in 2015, as though zoning still exist. If zoning is dead, how then can the presidency be zoned to the South East in 2015?

Finally, if you have the answers to these questions and can truthfully make them available to Nigerians, they will awaken to what the PDP leadership really represents. It represents piratical depredation of the national wealth, destruction of the nation’s institutions, debasement of her moral values and scornful indifference to the economic plight of the Nigerian masses. They will realize that like the political jugglers and financial swindlers that suffuse PDP, you have nothing to offer Nigeria, and your promises are as hollow as the previous promises made by prior PDP presidents.

Invariably, Nigerians will recognize that it is high time they booted out PDP from power by electing to the presidency a man governed by lofty ideals, elevated ethics, and selfless, incorruptible and unwavering commitment to the service of the people.

Again true but he in 10 months has increased funding for education to an unprecedented level. Education had a lion share in his budget and the research funding has dramatically improved.

Poverty, healthcare problems will improve when constant power is instituted and quality education delivered.
Industries will thrive and jobs created when power is constant.

Jonathan is only 10 months old as the president.

NB: 300bn was spent by members and officials of the PDP  some of whom make up the majority of the CPC members who wine and dine with Lord Buhari.
Part of the 300BN is used as campaign funds for CPC. Ruma and the likes comes to mind, Achike udenwa from the south

Haba, we can go on and on.

1. He compromised by asking all PDP governors to support him during the primaries and return for third term or allow their stooges to run , in cases where the governors have already stayed for two tenures. This he did regardless of wether the governors have emptied their treasury or not.

2. He does not understand basic economics, by planning to spend all national revenue on recurrent expenditure while planning to borrow every single kobo to be used for capital project. he has exhausted our foreign reserve.

3. He belongs to the same party that has plundered the nation in the last 12 years.

4. He was part of administartion that declared state of emergency on Power sector, yet could not deliver anything.

5. He is too timid to bring any change, Security vote was exhausted while President Yar''adua was ill, yet he could not probe anybody or organize any enquiry.

A situation where the soldiers and the police who are supposed to safeguard life take sides is a difficult one. Do not forget that the governor of the state in a federal system is the chief security officer. Goodluck has done what he is supposed to do but soldiers and the police chose to be partisan.

Why is no one talking about the Boko haram killings in the far north?
And as a statesman who commands good followership and has the ears of the almajris, why has Buhari kept quiet?

He is a member of the federal executive council, does he have to be president before he played his role as a statesman?

Funny, an acting president turn president, when majority of the north were crying foul, with party members of nothern extraction trying to undermine. come on people, GEJ would be a fool to upset the status quo, or discard any project embarked on by Yar adua, he need to be his own president to make real statement. andoka and co wont recognise the man if he win. i wont vote GEJ if i belong to the group that did'nt want him to suceed Yar adua, but i am not so i will vote him for president.

Kobojunkie:

About $300 Billion dollars spentso far in 12 PDP Years

What do we have to show for all that money? Still

a) No Electricity

b) No good healthcare

c) No good roads

d) Education in dilapidated state

e) No jobs

f) Poverty rate about 30% higher today

These are great reasons to support Jonathan and PDP

All this is either totally false or lacks any evidence whatsoever. Also how you equate what PDP spent in 12 years at federal level with Jonathan who has been at federal level for 4 years and as a leader for only 10months is beyond me.
