Here we are again. this topic needs no introduction, tomorrow, Saturday please does of you who can go and vote. The National Assembly is the most important, every president need good men and women in the National Assembly to work with. Vote out "I concur" members, vote out Absentee members, vote out members who have not made a single contribution or initiated a single bill in the National Assembly.
However, if you live in any of these areas, voting has been rescheduled for the 26th

The National Assembly is Nigeria’s bicameral legislature and the highest elective law-making body of the country. It consists of the 109-member Senate and the 360-member House of Representatives. The term of the Natinal Assembly is 4-years from the date of its first sitting after the general elections. The current 6th National Assembly was inaugurated in 5th June 2007. This site will give you an overview of members of both Chambers of the National Assembly, their Committees and the legislative activities of the Parliament.

@Rhamz, party and individual are one and the same, anyone who tells you contrary is trying to deceive you. As long as the person is not an independent, we all vote for parties. let us go and give PDP backhand slap tomorrow
Re: National Assembly Elections, Saturday 9th April, 2011 by seguno2: 2:56pm On Apr 08, 2011
Firstly, thanks to aisha2 for sensitising us again on tomorrow's election. More grease to your elbows.

debrief08:

The National Assembly election is very important, these people will make it possible or impossible for Goodluck or Buhari to do a good job as president

I cannot say it better. We need to make OUR representatives work for the jumbo pay they earn.
Abi anyone dey here wey dey collect salary without working or is paid for services not rendered
The case should not be different with our legislators otherwise  WE will by our individual and collective negligence make them legisLOOTERS.
They should be able to address our issues for the executive and also make better laws based on our concerns.

debrief08:

@Rhamz, party and individual are one and the same, anyone who tells you contrary is trying to deceive you. As long as the person is not an independent, we all vote for parties. let us go and give PDP backhand slap tomorrow

I beg to disagree with your opinion there.
Nigerian politics in recent times is marked by political association of convenience devoid of ideology or manifesto to be implemented.
In the absence of a provision for independent candidates in our constitution and the expensive nature of politiking, candidates are obliged to find the best means to attain their ambitions.
There are so many ex-PDP people, good and bad who have moved to diametrically opposed parties such as ACN, Labour Party, APGA, CPC etc depending on the one that is strongest in their target area. The same is true for ex-ACN people who lost out to Tinubu's imposition of his family members and business associates as candidates hence moved to LP, CPC, PDP, ACN etc.
Some examples are:

Dora Akunyili, PDP to APGA- Anambra
Chris Ngige, PDP to ACN- Anambra
Ayo Fayose, PDP to LP - Ekiti
Akpan Udoehe, PDP to ACN, Akwa Ibom
Ibikunle Amosun, PDP to ANPP to ACN, Ogun
Gen. Muhamadu Buhari (retd), ANPP to CPC

So I will advise us to:

know our relevant cosntituencies
find out the bacground of each individual candidate

rather than voting for or against any party BLINDLY like illiterates.

Voting for individuals will let us have a multi-party represention at all levels, which will let politicians know that winning party primaries (arrangee/annointment/selection/imposition) doesnt equate winning at the polls. it is what the person represents not the party manifesto

Once a Lagos politician had ACN nomination he knew he had Tinubu to "mobilise" area boys to make you win. Ditto for PDP, ANPP, APGA in their fiefdoms. Once nomination is done they start throwing parties as if they have won the elections.
And this is exactly why we need to identify worthy (or least unworthy) individuals irrespective of party affiliation for 2011.
If we do that then by 2015 people will realign more on ideological levels for greater democrtaic options.

APS- African Political System: is dat a party or a course in college. Anyway my policy is to vote 4 those that were actively doing things to improve d 'standard' of living of the average Nigerian. Sounds like a cliche but, I like d work dat people like Fashola has done, talk about visionary leadership. Men like Donald Duke, i'm always surprised when such people show up in government. It gives one a sense of hope and d motivation to work harder. That is my policy and such a person could be 4rm any party.

I found this resource today. it helps you to know your senatorial district, Federal Areas, contestant and their profile. It works well especially when you have a voters card as it shows you your polling unit and collating centres. try it out, even if you dont have a voters card, at least you will know the people contesting

‎Friends, please join me and demand for the release of Becky Omowaiye. Her husband, Remi Omowaiye is an IT/software developer. Last night the State Security Service stormed his home accusing him of developing a software to monitor elections and arrested his pregnant wife Becky, insisting on detaining her till her husband is found. This illegality perpetuated by this security agency in the eve of the general elections must not go unchallenged. Please re-broadcast this till pressure mounts to release this innocent pregnant woman. Thanks
Who is scared of election monitors?

So the PDP controlled SSS now bullies pregnant women?

So it is now a crime to monitor elections in your own country? and they say we have a democracy?

Aisha, post it on twitter, spread the news.
