Kagara Abduction: FG Won’t Pay Ransom, Says Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, said the Federal Government won’t pay ransom to secure the release of the abducted students and members of staff of Government Science College, Kagara.

He stated this today while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ monitored by The PUNCH.

There have been unconfirmed reports circulating on social media that the government had paid a huge amount of money to secure the release of the Kagara abductees.

But when asked on Saturday whether the government had paid ransom or was considering the payment of ransom, the minister said, “No.”

Mohammed added, “We employ kinetic and non-kinetic (measures), you don’t throwaway invitation to engage but the overall strategy you keep to your chest.”

The minister also said the government won’t tolerate any form of criminality in any form.

He said, “Bandits all over the world work with psychology of people. Deliberately, they target women and children because this is what will attract a lot of global outcry. That is exactly what bandits do all over the world.

“The government has put in place, all along, various strategies to contain banditry, to fight insurgency, to fight kidnapping. Some of these measures are kinetic, some are not kinetic. We didn’t get here overnight and that is why it is difficult to get out one day.

“Criminality in any form will not be tolerated by government. At the same time, government has a duty to look at the underlining causes of some of these criminalities in other to address them.

“I was in Minna with my colleagues, the Ministers of Interior and Police Affairs, the IG, and the National Security Adviser on Wednesday to get a firsthand information on the abduction of these Kagara schoolboys. I can tell you that as at today that the government is on top of the matter.”

The PUNCH had earlier reported that Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in the bandit-ravaged areas on Wednesday after the attack in Kagara.

The Senate had also asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to declare a state of emergency on security without further delay.

Wednesday’s attack happened a few months after bandits kidnapped over 300 schoolboys from Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State.

People Gazette had tweeted this:

EXCLUSIVE: Bandits have freed all students and officials abducted from Niger school on Wednesday.

FG paid N800 million for the successful operation, brokered by NSA Monguno and Sheikh Gumi. Cash was ferried to Tagina Forest holding the gunmen.

FG to announce today or tomorrow.

FAKENEWS media always confusing everyone.

Yesterday one the lowest cadre of FAKENEWS Media called people's Gazette claimed that the Nigeria government paid 800 million naira for the release of the students. The news was crafted in a way to demoralize Nigerian youths and to blackmail the government.

Today, the government came out to say the truth.

The real purpose of FAKENEWS is to demoralize the youths and to make them think they can't control their future, have a future or a nation

I will rather believe the words of Judas Iscariot not to betray me than believe the word of Lai Mohammed!!! When it comes to lies and deception, Lai is in a league of his own!! If telling lies were to be a game of soccer, Lai Mohammed will be on his Fifteenth ballon'dor.

The more reason is true because he says the opposite.

Terrorist Gumi asked for amensty and blank funding of bandits the next we heard was abduction.

Mettalawe the bandits spokesman cried for negotiation and amensty instead of use of force

Niger Governor certified they would be returned

They were returned, but what happened to the kidnappers if you didn't pay ransom.

Did you guys kill them (show us their bodies)

Or you Terrorists have the magic band of talking to them for release after kidnapping (without ransom) but can't talk to them to stop the kidnapping in the first place

If this is coming from Uncle Lai Mohammed just know that Buhari's government paid more than 800 Million.

Uncle Lai always say the antonym of the truth, if he says good morning go outside and check because it might actually be 11pm in the night.

Uncle Lai is a bad role model and a bad parent to his children.

A disgrace to Oro town and a dishonor to Igbomina people of Kwara and his ignominious attitude is a thing of concern to all sensible Nigerians.

Does he even think of the future? If he is no longer in government what legacy does he want people to remember him for.
Legacy of lies and deceit.

It is shameful that a man in his 60s lies so comfortably without remorse.
Shameless oniro agbaya elenu bi obo adiye

Hah! Northern youths have found another means of cashing out. Kidnapping for awoof ransome. Many of such would follow suit soon. They'd kidnap people on a broad day light and nothing would happen. As they're dolling out money to the terrorists, make dem remember our innocent southern youths who need money to start business too. They should empower them too because its our collective efforts...our money. Some terrorists can't be taking the money while the innocent are watching in vain. The child you refused to educate will end up terrorising you someday. Almanjiris of yesterday are fully grown, terrorising the north and the entire nation is feeling the heat. Money meant for development of Nigeria had been wasted in fighting terrorism over the last decade...and counting. Nigeria, na who you com offend like dis , can you tell us ? If it's God, we can plead for mercy...
