Opposition Parties Meet on Way Forward 11 Apr 2011 Chief Bisi Akande, ACN National Chairman By Imam Imam The leadership of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Sunday held exploratory talks in Lagos ahead of the all-important presidential election on Saturday, THISDAY can report. The two parties had entered into an agreement to see how they could work together in order to wrest power from the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has been in government since 1999. The original plan was for the party that wins more National Assembly seats to produce a joint presidential candidate in an alliance, while the party that comes second would produce the leadership of the National Assembly. Under the arrangement, ACN is in a position to field Malam Nuhu Ribadu as the candidate of the alliance since it has won more seats than CPC which was initially thought to be very strong in the North. It is yet unclear how the agreement will now work out with the turn of events. As at Sunday night, ACN had won 13 senatorial seats of while CPC could only boast six in the official results declared so far. Insiders are of the opinion that an alliance had become inevitable no matter the obstacles because there was no way PDP would not steamroll the other parties in the election without an united opposition. THISDAY learnt that the talks will continue Monday. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/opposition-parties-meet-on-way-forward/89432/ |

If that is their original agreement, then let Buhari step down for Ribadu and the ACN, publicly support him and campaign for him in the NW, NC and NE. |

All merger plans now dead on arrival. We now await the traditional crumbling of all parties Buhari has had a hand in. Nigeria will never be ruled by such a primitive beast. If CPC can get the rude shock behind them, both Buhari and Bakare MUST give way. We cannot be ruled by zealots. |

The poor performance of cpc has shown that buhari is a bad product and the only thing left for him is to bow to a more stronger opposition for a meaningful alliance.but however, buhari is just being too egocentric having lost all the time he has been contesting and he still insist on emerging as the consensus candidate.Any alliance between cpc and Acn should have Acn producing the presidential candidate. |

Dear Beaf, As much as I support GEJ like you, wouldn't you think that your language and manner of addressing other Candidates, is wrong? Perhaps you would agree that the participation of Buhari not only gave PDP the jitters but has ensured the party does not have absolute majority - and that is good for our dear Country. Nigeria is a beautiful place and blessed with great people (including Buhari). We all do have varied approaches to solving our national challenges but calling former Head of State a beast, is taking it too far, sir. When Buhari took over power from Shagari et al, though I was affected, but I did trust he had good motives for the country. I do have a lot of respect for him and still think we should not vilify him for his past. I indeed recognise that it is the norm in Nairaland to abuse and denigrate people under cover of aliases, but we do no justice to the character of GEJ if we dumb down to the mutt mind. As they say: if you play with pigs, you would get dirty - what's more, the pigs love it. I trust you are no pig. It shouldn't be in our character. Cheers |

~Bluetooth:How is Buhari a bad product? He formed a party less than one year ago and won 6 Senate seats and 30 House of Rep seats, and has 2 governorship(Kaduna and Katsina) a sure banker for him. How many politicians can pull that in Nigeria? |
Re: Acn, Cpc Plan Next Moves by Nobody: 10:23am On Apr 11, 2011 |
Jarus: Cpc is not saleable whether you like it or not.Even in the core north where the party was assumed to be favoured was still countered by pdp unlike what we are seeing in the south west were ACN defeated pdp hands down. I forsee a better chance if cpc steps down for ACN than acn stepping down for cpc. |

feelgood: You will notice that I have never referred to either Ribadu or Shekarau as beasts. However, Buhari is a primitive sharia addled red-eyed beast; and I have no regrets for telling the truth as it is. Who killed innocent young men with backdated laws? Who jailed Ekwueme in Kirikiri while keeping Shagari in luxorious "house arrest?" Who made telling the truth a jailable crime under decree 2? Who made it possible to jail anybody for no stated reason and without legal recourse under decree 4? Who made the application that saw Nigeria smuggled into the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) by IBB? . . .I could go on and on. Buhari is a primitive beast. |
