GHANA – CAMEROUN [10:OO GMT,
Dobsonville Stadium,
Johannesburg]
NIGERIA – GAMBIA [10:00 GMT,
Bidvest Stadium, Johannesburg]
PREVIEW
ORLANDO WELLINGTON: Under
pressure to qualify Ghana to the
2011 World Youth Championships
We are back to
mathematical gymnastics as
Ghana, Nigeria and Gambia battle
for the only remaining ticket to
the 2011
World Youth Championships.
Ghana, the defending Champions
have failed to glitter, but there
is still some hope as Nigeria ’s loss
to Cameroun in the last rounnd
of games has thrown the group
wide open. So if you are in the
mood for some Easter Sunday
mathematics, here are some IFs
and BUTs for you.
Ghana will qualify to the World
Youth Championships (finish
second on the league table) if
they beat Cameroun and Gambia
also beats Nigeria. But that will
not be all. Ghana must score
more goals against Cameroun
than Gambia does against Nigeria
or at least, as many goals as
Gambia scores against Nigeria.
Now that must be what the
prophets of old thought of when
they coined the statement
‘ through the eye of the needle’ .
The case of Gambia is even more
interesting. To qualify for the
2011 World Youth
Championships, Gambia will have
to defeat Nigeria.  After which
they will hope that Cameroun
beats or at least draws with
Ghana. However in the likeliest of
events that Ghana beats
Cameroon Gambia will pray that
their win against Nigeria will
come with a bigger scoreline
than Ghana’s win against
Cameroon.
Nigeria, has the easiest task.
Just beat Gambia, who will play
without three key players
Baboucarr Jammeh, Mamut Saine
and Teammate Saine .
Psychologically however, rumours
of protests against three of
their players for
being averaged by Ghana might
affect their game.
All the mathematics aside, the
ties in the group could end up
being decided by fair play points
or even a toss of a coin. If Ghana
and Gambia win today and
Gambia scores exactly 1 goal
more than Ghana, then the only
remaining ticket will be decide by
fair-play points or tossing coins
– in that order.

I didn't know if d head to head rule still exist or not, If Nigeria draw and Ghana defeats Cameroun by 3-0, I think Nigeria is coming back home

1’ – Nigeria get us underway in this crucial Group B clash playing from left to right.

– The players are shaking hands before the coin toss and the captains are meeting in the middle of the park for the coin toss.

15’ – Long range effort from Nwofor, but it is well over the crossbar.

14’ – Nigeria have dominated these opening exchanges. Only some sloppy passing and poor finishing has seem them unable to breach the Gambian defence.

12’ – Gambia have won their first corner. Jarju whips it in, but itis cleared by Anyanwu.

10’ – The keeper did well there to come off his goal line and spread himself, but Camara should really have scored.

9’ – A nice through ball sees Kayode through on goal, with just the keeper to beat, GOOD SAVE by Musa Camara.

Re: Nigeria 2 Vs Gambia 0 by ariy(m): 11:50am On Apr 24, 2011
45 + 1’ – The referee brings the first half to a close with the score locked at 0-0.

45’ – The fourth official signals one minute of added time.

43’ – Ajagun attacks down the right again, but he is quickly crowded out by the Gambian defence.

41’ – Nigeria are controlling the game, but they can’t find the right pass in the final third.

39’ – Kayode tries his luck from about 22-yards for Nigeria, but his shot is a poor one and is well wide of the target.

37’ – Ajagun attacks down the right flank but a poor pass sees Nigeria lose possesion.

35’ – The game has fallen into a real lull as neither team seems to have the imagination to breakdown the opposition defence.

33’ – The game has got a bit scrappy and both teams are committing a lot of fouls in the middle of the park as they try to assert dominance.

31’ – Foul by Njie on Azeez. YELLOW CARD. Njie is booked for Gambia because of a dangerous tackle.

29’ – In the other Group B match Ghana seem to be dominating Cameroon,

28’ – Gambia attack down the left flank through Gassama, but he loses the ball under pressure from the Nigerian defence.

26’ – Nigeria are applying the pressure now and have won another corner-kick, but it is a poor one and Gambia are able to clear.

24’ – Daniel shoots from the edge of the box for Nigeria, OOOOOH, inches wide of the target.

23’ – Update from the other game in Group B. Ghana have scored and are winning 1-0 over Cameroon.

21’ – AAAAAH, over the crossbar from Azeez from only six-yards out. He should really have scored there.

20’ – Cross into the box by Nigeria, the Gambian defence is sleeping and fail to clear, the ball falls to Azeez, he shoots,

18’ – Gambia are slowly finding more possession of the ball and are coming into the game a bit more.

17’ – Gambia have won another corner, but it is a poor cross and goes over the head of everyone.
