Drug Syndicate Conceals 3,200kg Of Cocaine In Candles by dapachez: 5:15pm On May 04, 2011
Determined to smuggle drugs through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, a suspected drug syndicate has concealed 3.200kg of high grade cocaine with an estimated street value of 30 million naira inside candles.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made the discovery last Sunday during the inward screening of passengers on Emirate flight from Brazil.

The drug was industrially packed inside six big candles, four of which are black while the other two are green. While answering questions from narcotic officers, the prime suspect,Aina Fausat Olanrewaju, said that the candles were meant for spiritual use. Not satisfied with the explanation, the candles were broken and found to contain cocaine. She was arrested at the arrival wing of the airport following the discovery of the cocaine- laden candles in her luggage containing clothes, shoes and bags.

The 45-year-old single mother of two children is believed to be working for an international drug cartel with stronghold in Brazil.

She had been taken on follow-up operations within the country to arrest other people linked with the crime. Two other persons had already been arrested in connection with the crime while the agency has commenced investigation to determine their degree of involvement.

MANILA — A Nigerian accused of leading an African drug trafficking syndicate that recruits Asian couriers was arrested in Manila carrying half a kilogramme (1.1 pounds) of cocaine, authorities said Wednesday.

Samuel Egbo, 34, and his female South Korean companion were caught on Tuesday when they met a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency officer posing as a buyer in a McDonald's restaurant in the Philippine capital, they said.

"He is one of the main facilitators in the Asia-Pacific region. He is the one who meets with the drug mules and arranges for their accommodations," Jonathan Morales, an agent with the agency handling the case, told AFP.

Egbo was intending to sell the cocaine to the "buyer" for 2.5 million pesos ($59,000), Morales said.

According to Morales, Egbo is part of a group known as the West African Drug Syndicate -- a collection of Nigerians based in Bangkok, Thailand, who operate in the Philippines, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.

Nigerian arrested with 40gm cocaine

NEW DELHI: The crime branch arrested a Nigerian national with 40gm of cocaine in west Delhi on Saturday. With the arrest of Kingsley John (36), from near Jain Road near Kakrola More, cops have also unearthed a new modus operandi of drug smugglers. The accused has allegedly admitted that he had previously used old and terminally ill people to smuggle drugs into India by planting these in their bodies.

Sources said the accused - a garment exporter with a MBA degree - was smuggling drugs into India and sending out money illegally. Sources added that John had links with drug suppliers in Angola, Kenya, Ghana and other African countries and directly supplied drugs to clients in Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab.

Police said John had been in India for the past three years on a multi business visa and had been running a garments business from Tripur in Tamil Nadu. He used to supply clothes to Iran and also sent money illegally in the consignments. Cops said he does not have any valid documents like passport and visa at present and has been booked under the Foreigners Act. "The cocaine seized from him was to be delivered to a client in Delhi. It is worth over Rs 10 lakh in the international market," said a crime branch source. When contacted, Additional DCP crime branch Sanjay Bhatia confirmed the arrest. "We have arrested John under the NDPS Act. We are investigating his previous involvements and about his other associates," said Bhatia.

Undeterred, Nigerian continues to push cocaine across city

Drug peddler mocks the law despite being arrested thrice in the past two years

A Nigerian national, who has been arrested by the crime branch thrice in two years for peddling cocaine in the city, is making a mockery of the system as he continues to push the drug unabated through his network of foreign student couriers.

Hathim and Mohammed confessed that they were working for Jo alias Pappajo since the past one and a half year

The incident came to light when sleuths of the narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) nabbed two Jordanians red-handed, while they were selling cocaine near a coffee shop in Indira Nagar.

The police recovered cocaine worth Rs 15 lakh from them and during a detailed enquiry, the duo identified as Abdul Hathim Al Ali and Ahmed Mohammed Hasan confessed that they were working as couriers for Jo alias Pappajo since the past one and a half year.

They also informed that his network is expansive and most of the couriers are male foreign students, who are paid handsomely in cash as well as drugs for their services.

Assistant Commissioner of Police R Lakshman said that Pappajo has been arrested thrice for smuggling and peddling drugs in the last two years and every time he manages to secure bail.

"Each time he just goes back to continue his business, all the while expanding his base and network of couriers in the city," he said.

Before their arrest, another Nigerian identified as Jimmy, who is Pappajo's right hand man, was handling the duo. We are on the lookout for these two to track the smuggling racket to its roots, Lakshman added.

Nigerian footballer arrested with cocaine in Delhi

Kingsley Izuchukwu (34) was apprehended from Kotla Mubarakpur on Sunday allegedly with 25 grams of cocaine, Arun Kampani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said.

The arrest came after police received an input about fine quality drugs being supplied from neighbouring countries through different borders which are brought to Delhi for further sale.

It was also learnt that this drugs syndicate was being run by some Nigerian nationals based in Delhi. These consumers mainly use these drugs at select parties at night at various private places, bars and night clubs here, Kampani said.

Izuchukwu told police that he was a leading national level football player of Nigeria. "He used to play regularly for Pepsi football club Aba Estate of Nigeria. He came to India for the first time in 2009 and got connected with international drugs peddlers of Nigerian origin operating in Delhi.

"The lure of making easy money brought him back to India in December last year and started working for the drug suppliers. These drug suppliers basically cater to high society clients and these drugs are consumed at select parties at private places and bars in Delhi," Kampani said.

On April five, a Nigerian Emeka Paul and an Afghan Mohd Sarwar were apprehended with 1.660 kg of fine quality heroin from their possession. Two Nigerian nationals Mohemmed Owolabi Adigun and Akanbi Olamilekan Mohemmed were apprehended with 120 grams of cocaine on March 30.

During their interrogation, it was revealed that these Nigerian nationals supply drugs through their own network of select conduits belonging to Nigerian nationality.

Prior to that on February 24, Ekene Okeke, another Nigerian, was arrested with three gms of cocaine, who was also a national level football player.
