Tender opens for CBN’s Abuja hotel design competition
Monday, 16 May 2011

SMARTING from its economic reform and monetary policies that have engendered confidence in the financial system, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has begun moves to consolidate its hold in the real estate sector by proposing the construction of an International Conference Centre and a five star hotel in Abuja.

Tender calls for provision of architecture consultancy services for the multi purpose centre is already on and would last for another one week. The project involves the conversion of the old NITEL building to an international conference centre with multi-purpose halls - conference halls, auditoria, communication centres and syndicate rooms), business centres, hotel (five star), shopping complex, restaurant, banks and a sport centre.

Coming under CBN’s 2011 capital projects, the bank plans to undertake an architectural design competition in order to select the best design concept for implementation on the project. . . .more

Sanusi must be smoking somethin for real. . credit growth to private sector is sluggish to down at best. . .at the same time inflation is a problem. . .

His banking reforms are no where near conclusion. . .meanwhile the dude wants to now start building hotels . . .

Someone should tell that clown that his mandate is economic growth. . currency management and Fighting Inflation

Not building hotels or power plants. . or any other such nonsense

My only consolation is that GEJ will replace him with a competent Technocrat when his time is up. . .

Perhaps aganga. . .Biswmarck Rewane. .Mustafa chike obi. . . or any other person that understands how a modern economy should work. . .

Sanusi seems to want to be the president from the CBN desk. He's constantly involving himself in things that aren't his business. As a banker he's great, i dont see room to complain and knowing ppl that have been stealing from CBN suddenly stop or get fired when he came was all i needed to be a supporter. As a politicain, which he shouldn't be at the moment, i can't say i like the guy.

By the time Sanusi is done with this economy, we would realise why we shd stop putting square pegs in round holes.
The economy has been contracting since he assumed office, unemployment is @ an all time low, the country's credit rating is going to the cleaners, yet everyone is hailing him. Now he's building hotels and conference centers. Wow

Sanusi is a civil servant and must do what his masters say.

Dont blame Sanusi - I'm sure these are not his plans but those of the people that control the CBN.

Private bankers own the 'Central Bank of Nigeria' - Not the Nigerian Govt.

All they are doing is investing in assets of the back of Nigerians.

Most people struggle to grasp that fact.

The tendering process may fall in line with the new guideline issued by the Association of Consulting Architects of Nigeria (ACAN), which made it mandatory for promoters of such competition to pay honourium for design concepts of professional architects, if it is for selected firms while in publicised competition, prizes or monetary reward must be given to the finalists.

Sources disclosed that the competition is open to professionally recognised architectural firms within and outside Nigeria. However, international firms must present evidence of collaboration with a suitable and registered Nigerian architectural firm.

Prospective applicants are expected to provide evidence of registration with Corporate Affairs Commission, certified true copy of Memorandum and Article of Association, evidence of employees’ Retirement Savings Account   (RSA) with   Pension   Fund Administrators, evidence   of   remitting   employer   and employees’   pension   contribution   to appropriate pension fund custodian, evidence of transferring all pension funds and assets prior to the commencement of the Pension Reform Act to licensed  pension operators, as well as evidence   of  registration   with  Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and evidence of payment of tax for the last three  years as at when due. Such evidence should reflect the value of the projects undertaken by the firm in the last three years.

Similarly, the architectural firms from outside Nigeria must provide evidence of registration with their others registration bodies and evidence of participation in similar projects in magnitude and complexity (of value not less than N5 billion) which are either awarded or completed.

Other requirements include corporate profile of the firm including curriculum vitae of key personnel, supported by professional licenses, verifiable   reference   of   related   services rendered in the last three years and references of satisfactory performance on similar projects from three previous clients.

The new tendering is coming on heels of the completion of its head office complex in Abuja designed by Messrs Interstate Architects Limited referred to as an “intelligent building” The building was installed with fully Intelligent Building Management System (IBMS), which regulates all the building services and also integrates the security.

The CBN Head Office stands out as a unique landmark in the Federal Capital Territory landscape. It features a conference centre/auditorium designed to accommodate up to 500 people for National and International conferences with back up facilities. Other facilities, include simultaneous translation from six translation booths, press and television coverage accommodation, including a press gallery for 50 persons.

Re: Is Sanusi Mad?. . Cbn Now Into Building Hotels? by crispy007: 9:12am On May 17, 2011
he took the CBN job because he wanted to return to his father's throne that had been denied him now - the Sultan. and to finance it, he will n[b]eed a Federal Government Project that he can convert afterwards like the heralded [b]OPERATIONS FEED the NATION (OFN) that later became Obasanjo Farms Nigeria (OFN).
Before  further ado, lets ask him what the name of the hotel is gonna be , thinking Seniora Lakeview Support Hotels (SLSH) and  Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Holdings (SLSH)    grin grin grin

Sanusi is a disaster waiting to happen.

1. The guy is not matured or experienced enough for the CBN job. After a few years as a GM in UBA, he came to Firstbank as an Executive Director for 2 years, he was an MD in firstbank for less than six months before he was given the job of managing the CBN.

2. He is also guilty of giving out bad loans while in First Bank, evidence shows that he gave out a loan to one of Firstbank non executive directors running into billion that went bad, it was published in the newspapers during the height of the banking crises. As a result of this indiscretion, Firstbank is still reeling from this, they have sacked around 1,000 staff since 2009. Their end of year result of 2010 is so poor, GTB and Zenith even did better than FBN.

3. The Naira was 120 when he took over at CBN, we are almost at 160 now. he has liberated the forex black market for his aboki brothers, something that Soludo fought and was able to reduce drastically.

4. He told us that the banks would have recovered by now, there is still a lot of confusion and uncertainty in the banking sector. CBN is still extending credit to ALL banks, that was the major reason that he sacked the erring bank MD's.

If Jonathan doesnt want the economy to crash finally, he had better get rid of this guy fast. Imagine limiting cash withdrawal to 150k, now he is building hotels, please where is the sensibility in this?

Do not criticize this guy for the sake of criticism. Can any one here prove that Sanusi is going against the laws of CBN? Can we stop this market women gossip please.

I expect an expert in the financial sector to post a reply to this post telling us if the CBN also has rights to embark on projects like these. Get the right information before you jump on your keyboards please
