Glaxosmithkline gets first Nigerian MD

Since the inception of the pharmaceutical company in 1971, this is the first time a Nigerian will head it. The company's new MD is Chidi Okoro, who holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Nigeria and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

He joined the company in 2007. What a meteoric rise

There's not the faintest hint towards that. He's only the MD, he didn't buy the company. @topic, quite a laudable and 'mouth-watering' achievement.

If this guy were Yoruba this tread would be busy as tribal warlords would have filled the air with silly remarks on how intelligent Yoruba or sons of oduduwa are! So may I congratulate my Igbo Brother for this rare achievement.

I don't know why multi, nationals based in Nigeria and Nigerian multi-nationals worship foreigners. This is a great achievement. May be companies like Shell, chevron et al and mo.ron.ics like glo, MTn will join the trend or lose out.

All this tribal bashing is becoming very irritating. We are all in the same s.hit together and still claim not to stink up the pile. Seun, do something please! Social ntwk forums in other countries bash us (Nigerians), we come here (our very own) and bash ourselves. SHAME!
Re: GlaxoSmithkline Gets First Nigerian Md by chivo: 8:40am On May 22, 2011
What a shame ! Africans should wake up, you can't find such in Europe and other Asian countries, we are fools, Onyibo is dominating everything as if they are God because we lack unity among ourselves. Ibibio, Igala, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Tiv nor Fulani people will opt for onyibo man to lead them instead of their fellow African. This is why our oil industries are still been controlled by colonial imperialist onyibos. cry

Congratulations to him and I wish him well even as I pray He lives upto and rise above every challenge that come with such positions for the good of Nigerians and humanity.

For those who blame foriegn companies in Nigeria that always engage or resort to foriegners when appointing CEOs/EDs/RDs etc, We, Nigerians have to tell ourselves the truth:WE ARE NOT RIGHTLY EQUIPPED TO HOLD SUCH POSITIONS especially in companies that have global focus.
We have to be honest, accept it as currently is, and then go back to the drawing board like the Chinese, did and like the indians are currently doing and in 10years time,I bet you Nigerians will dominate these companies. There is no need to worry over nigerians heading MTN, GLO, etc when we are still struggling to ADOPT and DOMESTICATE international best practices in ACCOUNTING, HEALTH & SAFETY,RISK MANAGEMENT AND HUMAN RELATIONS,ENGINEERING -PRODUCT DESIGN,PRODUCTION,SALES, AND LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT-, and the list goes on!

Nigerians in Nigeria must wake up and realize the World has little patience for mediocracy!

We Nigerians have the intellectual capacity to rise above mediocracy, develop standards based on meritocracy and the sky will only be our foundations!
