Please I have a question for HR practioners here, is it justifiable to approve a training allowance for staff attending a training programme sponsored by the company. Bearing in mind that the venue is within the city that the staff works in.

The standard practice I am familiar with is that you provide transportation to and fro the venue for the period which I think is fear enough bearing in mind that the company is still responsible for the training.

I recently joined Michael Stevens Consulting with a mind to get deeper knowldge in core HR practice. I have not had the privilege over time to take a job as HR personnel.

I have taking time to read some of the posts in recent times. This forum promises to be informative and interesting and i hope to be able to make my own quota as well.

I appreciate the brain behind this forum.

Hi all,
After many years working in the software business around the world, we have decided to move our services to Nigeria. We think the time is ripe for the move.

To this end, we have spent the last few months working on a number of software products directed at the Nigerian market. Our first offering is a Payroll and Human resource management software called 'EasyWare Human Resource Manager'. You may download an evaluation copy at: http://www.easyware-ng.com/human_resources.html.

We are looking to partner with software sales/marketing any organisations or individuals with a good understanding of the Nigerian market and good contacts within the software end-user market. Are there people on this forum who can point us in the right direction?

Thanks

Re: Human Resource Professionals: by yemmight(m): 9:11am On Jan 13, 2009
Dadde,

Even if you have 2 masters, it will still be incomplete without being professionally certified. Irrespective of number of years spent, preference will still be given to CIPM graduates. If you can can combine the 2, please go ahead otherwise focus on your MBA and prepare for your CIPM. Infact so many people have combined the 2 programmes since CIPM conducts exams twice a year.

Ajilete

You should start from Intermediate II and proceed to professional I & II thereafter.

Confetti

For now with your BSc in Govt & Pub Adm you can only start with intemidiate II while MSC in PMIR qualifies for PE1. The first exams is 2009 is February while 2nd exams come upin August. All the best.

Bugy

Since you are developing your career in HR, please go for CIPM. It will prepare you well enough for your MBA. You can even secure an HR job with that before you complete the MBA. Also ensure the MBA specialises in HR.

@yemmyight,

Please i need your urgent advice on this, i am a recent graduate of Mass-Communication, but i want to pusue a career in H.R. I started CIPM while i was in school, wrote foundation 1 and 2 and passed. I am to move to intermediate 1 but i am trying to avoid it cos of the calculations involved. I applied for an exemption with my Diploma results in NIPR, to start from Intermediate 2 but was told to still start from intermediate 1 that the qualification i provided did not meet up. Now i am thinking of waiting for my school results, then re-apply for another exemption with my School results and my NIPR results so i can write the August diet, i believe with this, i will be told to start from PE1 based on the Qualification stated in the Brochure.Am i right. please advice. Thank you

Re: Human Resource Professionals: by adessolar(m): 12:58am On Jan 20, 2009
@ Yemmight, wanted to know if uve heard of cipd (chartered institute of personnel and development) a professional body in the uk. how recognised are they in Nigeria compared with cipm (chartered institute of personnel management). Cipd is the HR professional body here in the UK and I'm presently on my final stage becoming a graduate member with the institute. Now, what i need to know is that do i have to go through Cipm to become an HR recognised practitioner in Nigeria since i will soon become a graduate member of Cipd which also qualifies me as an HR practitioner, please, i would like you to enlighten me more on this because immediately after my course I'm coming back to Nigeria to start my dream career in HR , kindly advise on this.

Also, pls could you explain the what an HR Business Partner role in Nigeria and the principle of the model Hr business partner to how they function in organisations in Nigeria.

As we know already the concepts of HR Business Partnering is to create value and deliver results for organisation to meet its customers needs, "David Ulrich" challenges HR professionals to define the value they create for its customers and employees, This is by delivering results, focusing on the outcomes and results of Human Resources work and to being more cost efficient, innovative and structured to adapt to its organisational mission, goals and its objectives,

Yemmight, would love you to elaborate more on the above questions and would be most appreciated if a reply can be given to my message,

Thank you
