Zenith Bank donates N300m hospital to Lagos State Govt[/size]

Zenith Bank has donated a N300 million 100 bed-capacity hospital facility to the Lagos State Government
The hospital, Iga Idunganran Healthcare Centre, is located at the Adeniji-Adele area of Lagos Island.

Gotta love seeing corporations giving back to the community like this.

I think they should have donated it to competent private hands.  This hospital may die young.

@ Seun. Which competent private hands? Government hospitals in Nigeria are still better than a lot of those private contraptions. Not all private hospitals are competent just like not all government run hospitals are badly run. So to just make a general sweeping statement that the hospital should have been given to private hands does not hold water. University College Hospital Ibadan today despite being over 50 years old, remains one of the best run hospitals in this country.

Commendable, but they can even extend same to other states of the federation!

I think the only good public hospitals are the teaching hospitals.  The doctors tend to be knowledgeable and skilled, but even so the service remains horrible with things like blood and oxygen not being available when needed and a pervasive rude attitude towards patients.  If this hospital is not destined to be a teaching hospital, then I think it will fare better in private hands.

@Seun. Unless they want to set up a specific charity to administer the day to day running of the hospital. But let's not forget to commend them again. Worthy cause. We hope to see more from the likes of Globacom who claim to be truly Nigerian in all things. Enough of glo ambassador globe trotting. Glo should participate in donating to worthy causes. No more 500 millionaires in 500 seconds

please note the difference "Healthcare Center", it is not the same as a Hospital. So it cannot have the chances of being a teaching Hospital or rather teaching Healthcare Center lol. In a nutshell it is a commendable effort, but for real they can go better than that.

Its not the buidling alone that is valued at N300m, i assume the medical contents are included in the cost. MRI machines alone costs between $1m and $3m

if you guys are informed enuf as to know wat it entails for anyone to put-up a project in a community like Idumota and L/island, u would know that cost of logistics alone would build a 10-Storey Hospital in ur village? wat do u mean by "they can go better than that"? if zenith adopted the thinking of most of us , they wont care an inch abt a medi-centre or even maintain the popoular and always lit Ajose adeogun street. Oil and Gas giant, EXXONMOBIL cudnt fix the road behind its office complex and its overflowing and would soon pull down their fence. Zenith has done this and more, scholarships, roads, ICT centres in universities, and loads of other bounties.

Let us get our facts right and stop making comments dat is embarrassing to our future kids.
