FOI Law: CPC lauds President

ABUJA — The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Thursday, lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for signing the Freedom of Information, FOI, bill into law, though it added that “there is still a long way to go in bringing about the needed stability that unfettered access to information brings.

The CPC which Thursday in Abuja, issued a press statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rotimi Fashakin, maintained that the new law would open a new vista into the ease to access of Information to engender responsible democratic governance in the country.

Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President by Kilode1: 11:24pm On Jun 02, 2011
CPC is sensible, why won't they recognize a good effort. Now we will wait to test the law.

If GEJ governs well, he will be appreciated, if he does not, he will be condemned. That is the kind of opposition our Country needs.

No more blind follow follow politics.

Some how people like you don't understand that its not personal, even GEJ himself knew that but unfortunately his follower thinks its kill/bury situation. They are the opposition party to the ruling party and their job is to tackle most govt policies for the alternative.
FOI bill will benefit the opposition more to do their job by having access to all sorts secrets of governance, hence their appreciation.

All we are saying is, we need the best for Nigeria. CPC is simply working for the good of Nigeria.

We say well done when the right thing is achieved.

While there spiritual leader BUHARI banned and made a decree that against ordinary reporting the truth about his administration event arresting and jailing press heroes GEJ is signing FOI bill! This is just many of the diffrence between a democrat(GEJ) and a tyrant and crook(BUHARI) CPC we the nigerian don't give a f$*k about what u think concentrate on forensic examination and the tribunal
Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President by Omooba77: 8:15am On Jun 03, 2011
Buhari's CPC,did not recognise GEJ,so why are they rejoicing now. Babangid Aliu has said, only God knows what we will be facing if Buhari has won. Naija oni daru!

@ Karl max, That was one of the key points we made here on nairaland when comparing GEJ to Buhari b4 the elections. The democrat vs the tyrant.
Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President by estatemark(m): 8:26am On Jun 03, 2011
We are finally beginng to witness the dawn of objective opposition in our polity. I pray this trend will continue and we as citizen will now take our own responsibility of holding our leaders to account for every penny spent during this present 4yrs term. The task of nation building should be a collective one.

Buhari has some tight SW men doing his PR Battles for him, with a bit of patience and tutelage I have a stong feeling and an equally stark realisation that the likelihood of a a combine SW, NW, NE and NC is very possible(OBVIOUSLY THAT GIVES YOU THE PRESIDENCY), there is already an established anti-Jonathan and PDP feelings in the NE and NW, the NC and SW would be the Kingmakers and are the ones that need to be persuaded. CPC needs to re-strategize they can still get the Presidency come 2015. The key would be the candidates they field, 'Bakare'(is still a relatively honest man in the Buhari-mould) he has been mute for sometime, he should stay mute for at least 2 years don't crticise for the sake of criticism, come out all guns blazing by year 3 and 4 of Jonathan's regime and watch public opinion swing.

My Gut feeling is Bakare/ El-Rufai ticket or vice versa would be the ideal ticket and would give CPC the edge, the former rather than the latter would prove a winner otherwise the CPC would have to console and confine themselves to a replical results like those of 2011 if the latter ticket is chosen. Trust me, SWesterners with Bakare on the ticket as the front runner despite his " wild wild North" premonitions and speech would fall like pack of cards behind him if he were to run.

The battle lines are drawn, Buhari should stick to his retirement plans come 2015, if he runs he would be humuliated.

CPC as a party should forget about the presidency at least for the next 100 years. We should be talking about ACN or any other progressive party att this time. The foundation of CPC is horribly faulty and no structure can stand on it in the near term. The only thing they can do is to completely rebrand by breaking down the foundation, digging new trenches and starting all over again (probably with a new name).

If you have 10 million guranteed votes even before doing any sort of campaingn in the NE and NW, it would be stupiid to throw that political capital away. Just because GEJ got away with 'Blue Murder' in SS and SE(jonathan would still have won because Buhari was non-existent in the South any way), 2015 would be a different cup of tea.

FOI was intended to, and would benefit NIGERIANS more as it would provide NIGERIANS access to hitherto secretly held government information which ultimately would make the government to sit up! It was for this singular reason that GEJ signed the FOI and definitely NOT to give opposition tools to do thier job. And in case you have not realised, such laws are mostly used by the MEDIA and NOT opposition for the PUBLIC INTEREST.

with this established.
core north should forget about presidency till next millenium .that is 3015 .

with this rate of improvement Goodluck will still win clean and handsdown in 2015.in nigeria its the masses now voting not the parties.

Obviously you did'nt read or hear any news which shows that among the 10 million are underaged voters and corpers forceful multiple thump printing.

I guess you did not also realised that 10 million votes for Buhari did not translate to 10 million votes for CPC. For a classic example, pls see the presidential, NASS and gubernatorial elections in Kano State. In order words, the fact that people voted for Buhari does not mean that they love CPC or would vote CPC in every elections just as the fact that people voted GEJ did not mean that they love PDP or would vote PDP in every elections.

Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President by efisher(m): 9:26am On Jun 03, 2011
Don't misquote me. CPC does not represent core North. The core North can still and will still produce a president in the near future as long as we remain one nation. But that will be under any other political platform (most likely PDP). If ACN can get a formidable candidate from the core north, they can also expand their sphere of influence and get a good shot at the job.

Nigerians are now poltically suave, people vote differently when it comes to the Presidency as to when compared to other elections, just the way it is done in the west. I think our electorates are becoming more mature, people have realise there is no point voting for someone just because he is from your region,  the same reason why ACN performed woefully in the SW during the last Presidential elections.

Are you now saying there are less than 10 million adults above the age of 18(because there were some incidents of under-age voting in some states in the North) in Sokoto, Kebbi,Kano,Kaduna,Yobe,Borno,Gombe,Zamfara, Nassarawa, and Niger all these states voted CPC overwhealming during the last Presidential elections.

ACN by joining the goverment in the centre has relinquished there role as the official opposition, CPC is now the official opposition.

I don't know why you SS or SE peole think you have the numerical strength to manovre things politically in Naija, you lack the numbers hence why Mr GEJ had to claim albeit Brazingly '99.9%' of voter's equity in those region. Don't you know the moment CPC chooses a Yoruba man like 'Bakare', SWesterners’ would be singing a different tune. The problems of the last election was ‘Buhari’ had being demonized as an ‘irredeemable Mullah’ and proved a hard commodity to sell in the South hence the almost zero votes in Southern Nigeria. Next election is for the political savvy politician and a quick learner, Bakare has a " 10 million head start-up that is" if Buhari's army of voters throw their weight behind him, all he would have to do is convince the Yoruba's.

I don't SEE Fashola getting the Presidential slot in any other party come 2015, it would go to a northerner in both  the ACN and PDP camps.
Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President by efisher(m): 11:24am On Jun 03, 2011
KnowAll, Bakare on his own cannot even stand against Chris Okotie. The 10 million votes had absolutely nothing to do with Bakare. I can say Bakare was even a minus to Buhari considering the fact that he could have gone for someone like Okonjo Iweala.
