mmh, on 2nd thought, the comparison with engine cylinders is not so bad when you take the batteries in parallel?! i.e. more cylinders = more battery banks (= lower Amps per battery bank.)
Because what I often see in the forum is a misfit between size of inverter and battery capacity & "architecture" (=parallel x series). And of course it depends on the type of batteries.
Here is one more analogy: the inverter is the engine; and the battery is the drive gear. Often a bigger engine is chosen than the drive gear can withstand... and the drive gear breaks faster than expected.

I think it is legitimate, that various installers follow different "philosophies" when sizing and choosing the components. Experience will tell what set-up is best for the client's application ... Obviously homeowners/DIY users have different demands than business clients.

By my own calculations need 3.5kva to run all home appliances
However based on cost of setup looking at a 1kwh system to power small-mid sized freezer, a TV and lights. Cfl& leds up to 10
I intend to power only the freezer during 9am-3pm and tv+ lights during 8pm-10pm.
Generator will be on between 6-8pm for water pumping.
I am presently 100% off grid.
My situation is that even though the promotional materials I read seems to suggest 1kwh is good for a 3 bedroom 24 hours I am kind of worried may not satisfy me and i don't want to end worse off.
I have also not been able to understand or convert kva to kwh.
So will appreciate advice on if 1kwh system can work as I planned or not.

most likely yes, am sure it can charge 98% of most 1.5kva inverter, my 1.5kva luminous is powered ok by a 2.5kva gen,..if its a high end american gen with massive charging current of 20amps and above, na there wahala dey

presine wane is always better, modified sine wave is less efficient and may damage sensitive electronic eguipment, buy luminous 1.5kva or suam, they r about 75k or so

Please i have this little problem with my inverter. Have been using new Luminiuos 875KVA inverter and 200Amp battery(used batter) for 2 months now. The first day i used it after charging it from batttery charger,it lasted for close to 10hrs before the battery got drained.But subsequently, the battery switched switched off after 3-4hrs use this days.What could have been the problem?

its a personal decison, its like asking me to help u decide if you wud buy rx 330, or toyota highlander
me i would go for puresine wave, the price difference shud b abt 30 to 40k.


@teechedah, its either 2 things..

1. the charging current of the inverter is too low, that 200ah batt needs 20amps charging current so it will be fully charged in 8 to 10hrs, so if ur inverter is kicking out 7 or 8 amps, then the batt wud be fully charged in 25hrs or so........so unless u had phcn for upto that amount of time, then ur batt wasnt fully charged, thus thats why it discharged very quickly...this scenario will eventually kill the battery


2. the fairly used battery, you bought is weak/almost dead

If you love your stuffs go for pure sane wave inverter.

Pure sane power supply is like NEPA while modified is like Generator. Some appliance do make some noise when plugged on Generator.
