Turns out nigerians haven't forgotten bout the yak messing up in south Africa

Thousands of fans raised their voices against Yakubu Aiyegbeni during the testimonial match in honour of Kanu Nwankwo on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Although, the Eagles defeated friends of Kanu 3-1, but Yakubu became a subject of ridicule as the fans booed every step he took during the international match.

Celebrant of the day, Kanu opened scoring in the first half, while Ikechukwu Uche of Zaragoza of Spain increased the tally before the end of the first half.

Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor, who plays for Real Madrid pulled one back few minutes later, but Ik Uche was on target again for the gov Babatunde Fashola-skippered side.

It was a day that Kanu had his last appearance for the Nigerian team, as the most decorated African player shed tears of joy during his last official match for Nigeria.

Some of the best stars from Europe paid tributes to the retiring player, Kanu.

Reacting to the jeers from the fans, Yakubu said he was surprised about the harsh behaviour of the fans, saying he did not see any reason for such treatment.

It would be recalled that Yakubu was a complete flop when he missed a goal described as the worst miss in football during Nigeria’s campaign at the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.

Kanu said: “I’m short of words to express how I feel, but I thank God that I’m alive to witness this day.”

Yak missed from 6 yards, but Kanu missed a chance on the Goal line in a game for West Brom against Arsenal, its still an English premier league record
Re: Yakubu Booed At Kanu's Testimonial by snowdrops(m): 9:42am On Jun 13, 2011
nigerians would be more affected by yak than kanu miss.

Are we talking about the last world cup that we would have been better off staying at home, Yakubu's miss should not be used as an excuse for flopping big time at a tournament hosted on our own conitinent,

Should Yakubu be in squad? No

why was he in the squad? he paid his way!

to Whom? The selectors (administrators)

Am sorry but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear

i think we are both on the same boat. yakubu`s best days are over. that was when he was in macabi haifa. probably its age that has caught up with him, or maybe its just interest in the game.
he should be retiring from all football as far as i am concerned.

Hate or not, miss or not, Yaks remains the highest goalscorer for nigeria among everyone playing currently. He is the highest goal scorer ever for Nigeria after Rasheed Yekini, and only Segun Odegbami comes a distant third. He was highest goal scorer for 2 seasons in porthsmouth, 2 seasons in Middlesbrough and 1 season in Everton. He was in top 5 goalscorers in Premier league for 3 seasons in a row. He has scored over 130 goals in english football, hate him all u want cos he missed one goal. Its a good thing Nigeria lost out cos the team didnt deserve to advance.

At least we now know who is the most decorated African football player
Re: Yakubu Booed At Kanu's Testimonial by babyboy3(m): 1:19pm On Jun 13, 2011
I believe Samuel Eto has scored at Every Nations Cup since 1998 to date Kanu hasnt scored one,

Honestly Kanu is a mordern day fraud, How he gets picked for the national team since 2006 is head scratching,

Theirs was once a rumour that he influence the selectors not picking John Utaka and then this was when he was on form,

May be he was bitter of the fact that Utaka was earning more than him. Jay Jay the decent thing and walked away, Pappilo

Stood in the way of the up and coming kids, At Arsenal he was happy to sit on the bench without fighting for his place, Honestly am yet to see what he did in football after the 2002 WC

[b]I am one of those advocating that Yakubu Ayegbeni should not be allowed to play for Nigeria again because of his comment after we lost out of the world cup. He was asked by one of the media houses " if he regretted or feel bad about the goal he missed" Yakubu replied that he doesn't have any regret and cannot apologize to Nigerians.

That was the only way he could tell Nigerians how silly he is. We Nigerians had expected him to have said, that he was sorry for that goal, that it was a human error and he will make an amend in other matches when given the opportunity.

Why was he arrogant in his statement? He is been paid with Tax Payers money and should at least, if he is reasonable to have known that one should reason before he/she voices out anything. His statement goes to show that he insulted Nigerians.

Is he better than Rashidi Yekini, Austin J. J Okocha, Kalu Nwankwo, and host of others? Not at all. He should forget about coming back to eagles camp. Let him stay and look for his bread out there and forget Nigeria. He is even very old guy as he is nothing below 37yrs old. He is just too old and has over stayed. He felt he is better than any other Nigerian or player in the world. No better team can sign him anywhere in the world again.

i seriously doubt the part that kanu has only won 2 league titles; you mean even playing for ajax, inter and arsenal, only 2

Even at that its suprising that any footbal follower will doubt that Eto'o is more decorated

for good measure add this to what is already on board
Eto'o Kanu
European Supercup 3 0
World Club cup 2 0
FA Cup or its equivalent 3 3
