See every body claiming greatness. its good sha and thats why we need to respect each other more. hmmm, Lovely thread and lovely comments. Those who claim their race is superior can be forgiven afterall thats what been proud of who you are is all about. I am a Yoruba man by blood and way of life(culture), black by skin color, Nigerian by geographical definition of where i am from, a member of the human race by biological characterisitics, citizen of the world, an earthling by location in the Universe, All in all i love being a Yoruba and a Nigerian. I think i will probably remain these two(at least one) till my last breath, Nice description of Yorubas and the tortoise probably the reason why the tortoise features a lot in our folktales. |

Thank you all for your compliments . I believe this thread, even though it wrongfully refers to us as "tribes" rather than ethnicities, has united us all on a deeper level. It has reminded us of our home origins and of our unity as "Nigerians" and Africans. I personally view all the people's of Nigeria as a miracle and a wonder. So many languages to learn, cultures to adopt, and traditions to practice that it would take more than a lifetime to fully indulge into. I myself feel sad that I am unable to learn as many languages and cultures as I'd like to, but I digress. To conclude, we are all amazing despite where we come from or who we are. I personally being an Igbo, think that we are not helping those around us as much as we can. With our three major abd official languages properly endorsed by the state, we tend to ignore the minor languages which are also just as beautiful and meaningful. To end on a personal note, I find it quite appalling that many youths abroad cannot speak their native tongue. If we cannot even pass on our languages to our children, why complain when we are often ignored and our tongues are labelled as unimportant. But I digress, I am glad that everyone here, except for Tpia, is revealing abit about them selves and it helps greatly in spreading understanding. |

Definition of Tribe A political, ethnic, or ancestral division of ancient states and cultures. Please do not make a big deal out of the word TRIBE. It is an ancient word pretty much for the same thing as you referring to ethnicity. If all is one blood family then it wouldn't be any name titles such as: Igbos Yorubas Edo Hausa calabari Delta Anambra Ijaw and HOST OF OTHERS. Keep going with the POSITIVE people. You are doing good. ![]() |

Mrs.Chima: Oh well every man to his own. However, I'd rather you refer to mine as ethnic group. |

Mrs.Chima: "Calabari"? I've never heard of that ethnic group, but i've heard of three main ethnic groups in Cross River State the Efik, the Ejagham, and the Bekwarra. Anywho, where are the people that argue for moving topics like these to the racism and tribalism section? To a foreigner a Nigerian is a Nigerian and here abroad we don't care what language you speak, we are just happy to see another Nigerian, lol. |
