DSK In Hearing Friday To Seek Release On His Own Recognizance

PARIS (MNI) – The intimate assault case against former International
Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is unraveling and criminal
charges against him could soon be dropped, the New York Times reported
early Friday morning.

Strauss-Kahn will return to court in New York City today in a
previously unscheduled hearing to seek release on his own recognizance.

The newspaper, citing two well-placed law enforcement officials,
reported that prosecutors no longer believed the account of
Strauss-Kahn’s accuser, because she had lied to them repeatedly and
given inconsistent information. The sources said she was caught in a
recorded telephone conversation one day after the alleged incident
discussing the benefits of pursuing charges against Strauss-Kahn.

The woman, a 32-year old Guinean immigrant who worked as a hotel
housekeeper at Sofitel in Manhattan, said Strauss-Kahn had attacked and
sexually assaulted her when she entered his room to clean it.

The case made huge waves across the political and financial worlds,
given Strauss-Kahn’s position at the pinnacle of international finance,
his crucial role in negotiating aid packages for debt-stricken Eurozone
countries and his front-runner status as a possible Socialist Party
candidate in next year’s French presidential election.

His sudden incarceration, which forced him to resign the IMF post
and appeared to destroy his political career, was a dramatic reversal of
fortune for Strauss-Kahn. This most recent turn of event could prove to
be an equally dramatic reversal — in the opposite direction.

According to the New Times report, the sources said prosecutors
plan to tell the judge on Friday that they have “problems with the
case,” reflecting the likelihood that criminal charges will be dropped.

According to the report, the prosecutors found inconsistencies in
asylum application of the accuser and discovered that she had possible
links to criminals, including people involved in drug dealing and money
laundering.

The man with whom she had the recorded phone conversation a day
after accusing Strauss-Kahn had been arrested on charges of possessing
400 pounds of marijuana, the paper said. He was reportedly among a
number of individuals who had made multiple deposits, totaling about
$100,000, into the woman’s bank account over the past two years.

The latest revelations in the Strauss-Kahn case hit France with as
much electricity as his original arrest. French media Friday morning
were abuzz with chatter about a possible resurrection of Strauss-Kahn’s
presidential hopes.

Michele Sabban, a senior Socialist Party official, urged other
declared Socialist candidates to “suspend the party’s primary for
awhile” in order give Strauss-Kahn the time he needs to sort things out.

That is not totally true. The flight had been booked and confirmed days before the incident and after he left the hotel he visited another relative with whom he had lunch.

That is not a picture of someone in a hurry to leave the country.

bro the average nigerian is extremely ignorant, they do not read books and have a very limited and narrow understanding of the world around them and that is why its been so easy for europe and america to exploit us. As you correctly said even europeans know that strauss kahn was set up, but only nigerians beleive that this whole fiasco was based on a genuine allegation.
