In the last round of Group A matches at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™, the Super Falcons of Nigeria meet Canada with only pride at stake, as neither team can qualify for the quarter-finals. After two defeats apiece so far, each is now determined to bow out on a winning note.

The stakes
Canada and Nigeria have only met once before at the FIFA Women's World Cup. The 1995 clash ended 3–3, and ranks as historic for both nations. The game brought Nigeria their first goal and first point at the women's global showdown, as they lost all their matches without scoring at the first edition of the tournament in 1991, and were thumped 8–0 by England in their opening match at the 1995 finals. The Canadians, who were not present in 1991, also picked up their first FIFA Women's World Cup point.

Canada have not missed the finals since then, posting their best-ever result at USA 2003, where they finished fourth. In 2007, they failed to survive the preliminary stage after finishing third in Group C.

The Super Falcons are a regular on the world stage having contested every FIFA Women's World Cup, although they have only once made it past the group stage. That was back in 1999, when they fell at the quarter-final stage, 4–3 after extra time to the powerful Brazilians.

The stat

German police should be on guard because they might decide to seek asylum after the match. They should be flown back 30mins after the match 10:30pm, upon arrival at the Lagos airport Nepa should welcome them back by taking the light.
