...Got to abuja and boarded a car going to kaduna. Going to the north for the first time, i felt very insecured. However, i finally arrived black gold camp at about 6 p.m. A soldierman told me to jog to the gate and in my mind i was like 'for what na'. Got to the gate and 3 other police officers (a female included) told me to go back, put my bag on my head and run towards them. I refused. And they were like 'okay, you go remain here'. Argued and later pleaded, all to no avail. I eventually did so. I actually felt stupid doing it. I got to the hall for registration and met an alarming queue. I felt i was the only one who spoke english there. Everywhere was smoking with hausa language + 60% of the females wore the hijab. I felt lost. (I later got to find out that the place was flooded with unimaid and A.B.U graduates) Later saw a coursemate, and i felt a little bit relieved. Couldn't complete registration that day. Got a mattress and slept off dirty, only to be woken by 5 a.m. The cold was unbearable, i knew it was going to be a very long 3weeks.

Preppie: Was posted to Kaduna state. I planned to be in Camp by Friday (the last day) as I was in Abuja for my Call to Bar ceremony on Tuesday. I came back to Lagos and also went to my school for my Call-Up letter. However, I missed the morning flight and had to wait in the airport till evening as the next flight to KD was scheduled for about 4pm. We left around 5pm Got to KD around 6pm and took a cab to the camp. Got there some minutes past 7pm and was not even checked at the gate. I saw some corpers and I asked them where I was to register and they told me. On my way, I met a soldier (very crazy man) wearing a white T-shirt and camoflague trousers and he asked me if I was a corper and I replied in the affirmative. He then ordered me to carry my travelling bag on my head and start running to the Registration hall. I silently wondered if he was mad but politely told him I was alright with the way I was carrying it. He threatened to deal with me if I did not carry out his orders.

d question ws ur day in camp n nt hw u spent ur wk.btw, weda ur bag touchd ur head or nt, d point is u obeyd ur so calld mr crazy.wnda wat dat mkes u..

My first day at Kusala dam, karaye camp in Kano State was very stressful . The town is situated @d outskirt of d state infact it shares a boundary with Jigawa state. Boarded a first flight down to Kano frm Lagos so by 9am, I was already in Kano. Thot d camp wld b a place I cld get to within 20-30 mins bt dat wasn't, I later got to d camp past noon but it took me like 8 hours to complete my registration cos of d pregnancy test we had to undergo in a tiny bathroom plus d long queue at the venues of submission of forms. The collection of kits was another problem cos it was already getting dark & haven't had anytin to eat since morning so all dat was on my mind was to get d kits & go get something to eat @ d mammy mrkt, dat I forgot my hand bag @ d collection center only to remember wen I got to my room bt luckily for me, I found it intact. Finally went to mammy mrkt arnd 9pm & was just half way wen d food seller asked us to leave cos its going to rain. I was so pissed I dint even answer her bt lo & behold, dis heavy rain started & got me wet from head to toe. I had to leave mammy afta stayin for lik 30mins, got to my hostel drenched with no water to take my bath only for us to b woken up @ 4:30am d next morning when i was fast asleep by sum mean looking soldiers bangin on our doors & shoutin. We were made to run to d field for d early morning exercise. Dat was d last time I exercised cos I started doing willy willy with sum of my room mates. My first day in camp was stressful but later got used to it towards d end of my stay.

Currently serving in Benin, Edo state. Okada camp was fun from the first day to the last. I got to the camp around 12pm and finished registration by 4pm. I registered as a foreign trained graduate so the first step was easy. The queue for the rest of the registration was long but not frustrating as people were very calm and instead we all had fun on the queue. Collection of the kit and mattress was very easy as well and i made alterations to my khaki that same day. some people slept outside and didn't have good story about their first day. I wore mufti throughout the first day with my new friend and sat at the mammy to avoid the drill for the day. The soldiers were extremely nice on the first day and throughout, there was no frog jump or any other punishment. They simply respected us graduate as but still they shouted and we enjoyed it as we replied them most of the time in the mornings. Few of them naturally have bad mouth though. I made good friends and Okada camp was like a family. The only negative thing about it was the ladies bathroom; it was the most disgusting thing ever. I went to camp with an open mind to enjoy everything about it and i did.

Makurdi 2004. Hmmm! Arrived camp by 5.30pm & was thoroughly searched by a rude female police officer. I'd an oversized bag that contained everythng i wld nid 'cept a stove! She was shocked & seized my cutleries. I almost swooned wen i saw the crowd @ the reg. Point. Halfway thru (10pm), lights OUT! No bed, nor mattress-I hated being a Nigerian dat nite...Slept on ordinary spring wit my clothes on. Only to be rudely awakened by commotion all over the place. I thot there was a war or something! I just followed what the majority were doing-found my self snapping to attention with my 'cover shoes' and clothes frm the previous day! But I survived afterall...

Got posted to maiduguri, borno state in october 2010 some months after the boko haram war over there. This made many at my school to tease and pity me cos im goin to boko town. Even though im from kano i was scared to hell. Left kano around 7am and arrived camp @ 2pm...the qeue wasn't not dat bad. Finished the registration and was escorted to our room, about 12 of us per room wit self contained bathroom only. After that i came out then saw a girl that i believ came from my school cos i saw her while queing for call up letter. I talk to her and she was happy to see me cos we are from the same school and state.....upto now she remains 1 of my best friend. I was unlucky cos my bunk was broken so i had to join dos that were not done with reg to sleep in a big room full of mosquitoes....i rily enjoyed camp life but i quickly relocated from that trouble state after camp.

Was posted to Zamfara state, got there by 5pm on d first day, the camp was a temporary site (secondary school opposite the main camp), just walked into the camp because the gate was not controlled and joined the queue, not knowing that I needed to write my name in a register at the gate, had to go back to the gate and write my name. finished my registeration by 11pm. dont think that there is any camp as loose as Zamfara state camp, walk in and out freely , we brought our cars to camp and was allowed to use it freely, some of us (big bois) did not wear white through out the three weeks. real fun.

MY FIRST DAY ON CAMP WAS AN EXPERIENCE CAN NOT BE PROPERLY EXPRESS BY MERE WRITING.IT IS ONE THE THING THAT MAN WILL EVERLY HOPE FOR RIGHT AWAY FROM SCHOOL WHEN YOU ARE EXPOSE TO CORP MEMBERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE YOUR TEACHER OR YOUR COUNSELOR.THE FIRST TIME THAT SOMEBODY BELOW YOUR STATUESQUE WILL ORDER TO DO WHAT YOU WILL NOT LIKE TO DO ON A NORMAL DAY. I MET A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT BACKGROUND AND ORIENTATION AT DISTANCE BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO INTERACT WITH THEM AS A RESULT OF TIGHT SCHEDULE FOR MY REGISTRATION.IT WAS SO STRESSFUL BUT LIKE THE IDAGE THAT IN EVERY DARK CLOUD THERE WILL BE SOME BLUE SKY.WHEN I FINISHED WITH MY REGISTRATION ENJOYMENT STARTED FULLY TILL THE LAST DAY WHICH RECIPROCATE THE FIRST DAY EXPERIENCE WHEN WAITING FOR POSTING LETTER.

I served in Borno State 2009 Batch A set.On arrival in maiduguri at the camp it was already late in the nigth after 20hrs journey from lagos, myself and new friends that met on the way all tripped in, searched at the gate and pass in after registration so easy simply because they could see in our faces that we all don`t like the zone. I went in straight and met the camp master that we need room that all the rooms where filled up,I was given a key to an uncompleted hall and foam where also given then and there I knew it would be a terrible camping time....We slept that night and were woke up at few minutes to 4a.m telling us to run to the field...if U are walking U are wrong, if U are sitting U are wrong, if U are standing U are very wrong run run....NYSC is bleeped, no new thing happening there, just old freaking style. I think the programme needs to be scrapped or reformed.
