$10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by mamba(m): 9:47am On Jul 04, 2005 |
Try to solve this... There were three guys at a bar, and they had to pay $30, so they paid $10 each.. so $10+$10+$10 = $30 But hey... there was a mistake, they had to pay $25 instead of $30 actually, so they got five $1 coins back and they leave a $2 tip. So here's the thing: Everyone payed $10, minus the $1 they got back, it's $9 each, so $9x3 = $27 + the $2 tip it's = $29, but in fact they payed $30... so where's the missing $1? Solve it and you might just get that $1. |

Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by olaide07(f): 12:32pm On Jul 04, 2005 |
Yeah I got it.THEY ALL PAID $30 AND GOT $5 BACK COS THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO PAY $25.Just becase the attendant was faithful decided to tip him $2 meaning $30-$25=$5-$2(tip)=$3 they shared the $3 left $1 each.No $ was left and there was no missing $.They were friends. Am I right? tell me now |

Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by Seun(m): 2:37pm On Jul 04, 2005 |
Let's go over mamba's statement again: "Everyone payed $10, minus the $1 they got back, it's $9 each, so $9x3 = $27 + the $2 tip it's = $29, but in fact they payed $30" This is the corrected version of the statement, emphasis mine: "Everyone payed $10, minus the $1 they got back, it's $9 each, so $9x3 = $27 minus the $2 tip it's = $25" The statement "but in fact they payed $30" is a fallacy. They actually paid $25. Mamba is just trying to confuse us. . |

The reward of $1 is certainly not worth the trouble. |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by badoski: 1:05pm On Jul 05, 2005 |
There's no missing $1. You take the $2 tip out of the $27 they all paid (just like olaide said) and u have $25 which is what they paid for the drinks. The trick is take out the $2 and not add. Or mamba, u don't even know the answer? |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by mamba(m): 6:44pm On Jul 05, 2005 |
badoski:Why don't you just say you don't know the answer.... I have decided to increase the prize, I'll give anybody that can solve it a calculator that's worth $25 (absolutely free) |

They spent all the $30. so no $ is missing. |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by matrix(m): 2:31pm On Jul 06, 2005 |
The first thing to understand is that they did not pay 9 bucks each. What they paid was 25/3=8.3333, so they had 5 bucks left of which 2 bucks was given to the bar man as tip, and 1 buck was given to each contributor. |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by whizkid(f): 3:06pm On Jul 06, 2005 |
Thank you matrix, you got that right. Mamba was just trying to confuse us, they paid $25 not $27. Meaning that it is possible that not everyone paid in the same proportion, Not to use decimals, try this proportion, 9+8+8=25 plus the $2 tip. If you add every thing together, it means they actually spent $27 and not $30 or $29 from Mamba's calculation. But it is also possible that they funded the bill ( tip inclusive) in the ratio 1:1:1, 1.e they all had to spend $9 each. |

is it $25 because you said that you would give a calculator worth $25 so is that a clue |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by twinstaiye(m): 4:38pm On Jul 27, 2005 |
The drink cost $25 NOT $30 plus $2 to the waiter (25+2=27). This is a logic problem and you are all confusing yourselfs with the $30 and $30 doesn't belong in the answer anywhere after the people get there $1 back the $30 becomes $27... 3x9=27 thats it bill is paid...$25 for the meal and $2 to the waiter YOU CAN'T ADD THE WAITERS $2 back on the bill IT'S PAID!!!! |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by sbucareer(f): 1:33pm On Apr 06, 2006 |
This is simple logic problem here is my solution The three guys paid $30.00 but it was actually $25.00. So they got there 5 X $1 coins back ($5.00) and get $1.00 each that is $28.00 ($25.00 + $3.00=$28.00) plus the $2.00 tip which is $30.00 |

Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by toyboy1(m): 4:41pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
the question doesn't conform to the rule of mathmatics!!! in mathematics, subtraction and division are non associative and commutative while multiplication and addition are both commutative and associative. in other words, using the simple examples below we can see y we cant lump up subtraction and addition without defining our parameters well enough. same for division and multiplcation. {1} 2+(3+4) = (2+3)+4 but {2} 2-(3+4) =/= (2+3)- 4 or 2*(3*4) = (2*3)*4 but 2/(3*4) =/= (2*3)/4 the question is just a silly trick we use to play on innocent friends way back then in high school, the $1 is missing in the so called tricky nature of the question, but in real mathematically equation the question cant fly- meaning the question itself is wrong. |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by kojeiwa(m): 6:12pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
So here's the thing: Everyone payed $10, minus the $5 they got back, it's $25 paid for the meal, meaning $8.33 each, so $8.33x3 = $25 + $5 ($2 tip and $3 shared) = $30. So, no missing $1? |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by jbuoy(m): 8:57pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
@Mamba, mind u u said they paid the 30 TOGETHER and not seperatly(even though they had to contribute that), so the 25 was returned for them all, they never paid 9 EACH, so taking the 25 from the initial 30,they were paid back 5,out of which they shared 1 each and gave 2 to the waiter, so if u think they paid 9 EACH then u wuld be looking for the remaining one till Jesus comes. And how do u xpect them to share 5 equally amongst 3? |
Re: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by Nauttyprof(m): 10:52pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
here is the answer if $1 is refunded so that each gave out $9 it would be very wrong after multiplying by 3 to then add it 2 d $2 it should be added to d $3 that was given out. |
