Last year and this year have been terrible wrt to floods worldwide.

This is going to require long-term shifts in how we plan and build.

Looks rather bad.

Need strategies to combat this.

Proffer an example of Netherlands where a complicated maze of drainage ditches, canals and pumping stations are used.

The kind of rain we witnessed in Lagos today eh, my goodness! So many parts of Lagos flooded. So many people won't be able to sleep in their homes tonight. The above pics were taken by individuals in different parts of Lagos State to show exactly what happened today. Lagos is truly flooding working!

Yes the downpour was really bad. My sister was telling me earlier today on phone that the rain caused the rear concrete fence in our parent's house to collapse. sad

Re: Heavy Rain Floods Parts Of Lagos by tpia5: 12:37am On Jul 11, 2011
some of these places need to be evacuated because they're flood zones.

people shouldnt be living there, really.

there ought to be fewer houses, and those few, built on raised platforms so the water can pass underneath them?
Re: Heavy Rain Floods Parts Of Lagos by tpia5: 12:40am On Jul 11, 2011
raised platforms:

Re: Heavy Rain Floods Parts Of Lagos by Musiwa42: 12:42am On Jul 11, 2011
it tell you, the level of government . and why I dont like bola tinubu. You see, there is an engineering standard for constructing road, and nigeria dont construct road well. Even Julius berger does not know how to construct road.

Look take example if I ask the lagos state government for contract. they will not give you, expect you know someone and all that. that is the way, their system works. but their are standard to building road.

nah, i don't think it is a natural disaster at all

it just shows lack of house planning in lagos and nigeria

most of this natural water ways have been blocked by houses and thus restrict the flow of water

fashola needs to look into this or else this would keep happening year after year

Environmental planning is seriously needed in LAGOS

yet they would never consider that,

all they bother bout is building trains

look @ the lack of planning in thoes flooded areas

soon its tsunami they would witness not just floods undecided

If The Netherlands can prevent flooding within its territories for centuries, why cannot Nigeria do this?

WE don't have the resources they have besides this is natural disaster and it happened in the US a month or two ago.
