With the phone hacking scandal rocking the UK, I just wonder if Nigeria press are or could indulge in such criminal behaviours in the name of journalism.

Is this even possible in Nigeria?

Whats there to hack anyway. You can get any info from the driver or the friend over a keg of palmwine. Its cheaper than fueling generator to power your hacking gadget
Re: Is Nigeria Press Into Phone Hacking? by TEEZERO(m): 5:24am On Jul 13, 2011
@ Arkhin: do you have what it takes?
Probably not, considering that you have made it look like it is just about "gadgets and know-how." There are simple and sophisticated ways of doing these things. But, you have to find out how.
And, by the way, who were reporting all the stuff during the dark days of Abacha? European journalists? Nigerian journalists may not be that rich but they always get to find out stuff that have brought down despots and all. Give it to them.

Warning : Do NOT EVER for one solitary instant hand your phone to any person besides your dead grandpa, because easily available software can be downloaded into your cellphone such that every single voice and text transmission can be eavesdropped, intercepted, blocked, modified or diverted.

The Oracle has spoken.

You seems to conclude so easily that the hacking will be done by the journalist but have we have come to learn from the UK News of the World hacking saga, the journalist barely do the hacking, rather unethically they source for (in the words of Gordon Brown, ex-UK PM)"underworld crminals" who do the job for them.

So the real question is; are there such indibiduals (aka underworld criminal phone hackerd)with the capability to do such dirty bids should the Nigeria press decides to follow the stinky path of thier western colleagues?

Journalism in Nigeria is dead. They only say news that I know already. And say news that have been paid for by PDP , ACN and the private companies PR. Its a waste to buy a Nigerian newspaper. No investigative journalism. There is no freedom of speech for real real else news paper will be raided by SS and shutdown. Bullshit!

If you want to understudy Nigeria's fall then look at the history of the dearth of investigative journalism in Nigeria.

But nonethless, Nigeria press is not a complete write off, rather when you read or watch thier 'outputs' as you would do a "spotted spoilt pinapple",you chop off the part spotted spoilt and make do with what you are left with.
