pls forgive me fellow nairalanders, i know the topic was about nigerian tribes originating from ghana,

i believe u will find it interesting to know that the ijaws of nigeria originate from egypt,

ijaws are also called kumoni, according to their oral history, the name is linked to the name of ancient egypt which is kemetu, u can confirm it anywhere, they migrated thousands of years ago, and landed in our niger delta, some of them are in ondo state[ arogbo]

The Ewe migrated from Ketu/Old Oyo. A solid evidence is the same traditional worship and divination practiced by the Yoruba/Ewe. Some of you Igbo should stop trying to claim anyhow.

The Ewe are divided in their opinion of origin. The few I know claim Niger as their place of origin, not Yoruba.
The only group in Ghana that has any connection to any Nigerian group, excluding Hausa and Fulani, are Ga. Apart from them, Nigeria and Ghanaian group are not related at all. Most do not even want to be related to Nigeria.
Why do Nigerian like claiming every African tribe wants something to do with them.

^^^^^OP
Ancestral links between Ghana and any African nation would be more in Togo and Benin than Nigeria.

Ghana:The Tabon(Yoruba descendants)of Accra

Posted on April 28, 2010

Sometime in May 2005 whilst listening to a British Broadcasting Corporation programme on radio, I whiffed a great similarity between the report on the Tabons of Accra(descendants of ex-Brazilian slaves of Yoruba extraction). The report which won my heart in its totality was sent in by a certain Kweku Sakyi-Addo.

According to the report, the Tabons (70 families in all) arrived 170 years ago on a ship from Brazil after their emancipation and were given land for farming and settlement by the Ga chief of present-day downtown Accra. The settlers greeted all those they encountered by saying “Es ta bon” which is Portuguese for “It is well”. With time, the Brazilian returnees came to be known as Tabon people on account of their style of greeting. Numbering several hundreds of thousands today, they have become fully assimilated into the Ga culture of the Greater Accra area.

Perhaps it is no surprise that the Tabon also claim Yoruba ancestry, bearing in mind that about 30 million of Brazil’s 40 million African descendants claim Yoruba ancestry, the rest variously claiming Fon, Fante, Efik and Ovimbundu ancestry.

Indeed,it was most amazing to hear Tabon renditions of their folk songs which were done in clearly discernible Yoruba language! Small world.

True.
The Ewe are from around Southwestern Nigeria.
The Ga-Adangbe are probably from the Niger-Benin border.
The Mossi-Dagomba are probably from the Niger-Burkina Faso border
The Akan are more than likely from the Northwestern Niger river basin (the Mali-Mauritania Sahel area border)
The Gurma and Guan are from the Sahel but I don't know what part

Proof of this? Having similar cultures is not enough evidence of anything. I can also point out some similarities between Tibetans and Yorubas but does that mean Yoruba people originate from Tibet.

There is no proof of this, dressing is not proof of this. Plus, why do Yoruba and Igbo love to claim everyone as theirs?

No such thing as tribal mentality. There will never be a one Africa as many of you hypocritical pan Africanists love to push for. There are different languages, cultures, looks, style etc in Africa and no the two will never be one and the same. So your statement is very ignorant and it is like saying well if us humans stop our racism mentality then Caucasians and negroes will be related and will be one and the same. This is ridiculous. Yes humans live on the same planet but they are differences amongst them and there is nothing wrong with that

Why do Ghana and their Caribbean/Afro American fans fund of nicking things from Nigeria or wanting to nick things from Nigeria? The Housa are rooted in Nigeria and Sudan. Migrations has taken them to other places but their homeland is Nigeria. Igbo's are Nigerian, actually the most rooted in what is now Nigeria than other peoples. Yourabas are rooted in Nigeria and like other major tribes , migration has spread them throughout West Africa. Tribes in Ghana related to ones in Nigeria are mostly originating in Nigeria and not the other way around.

....and actually the area now regarded as Nigeria was in ancient times the start point of a great migration that spread all the way to south Africa. Something cataclysmic occurred to start this great outward migration but historians are not clear what it was....
