Disturbed by the continued incarceration of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer (CSO)to the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, youth groups in the North that met under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum(AYF), at the weekend, appealed to former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar, to clarify the issues raised by Al-Mustapha.

The national president of the AYF, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, said it was only General Abubakar that could put an end to the controversy surrounding Major Al-Mustapha’s allegations and save the nation from further  suspense, as  the latter’s comments and videos had heated up the polity.

The Arewa youths, he said, had continued to monitor the court proceedings and were not happy with Abubakar for keeping mum in spite of the fact that the embattled  former chief security officer had mentioned him many times during the trial.

He said Abubakar should emulate  former President Ibrahim Babangida who had been calling for the release of Al-Mustapha in radio interviews, pointing out that posterity and history would not forgive those who make others suffer unjustly.

really? am not sure this is a major topic of discussion out there.

And why are people obsessed with this term - 'heat up the polity.'

You can't read a newspaper without coming across several apocalyptic warnings about 'heating up the polity.'

Re: Arewa Youths Want Release Of Al- Mustapha by Danni2: 1:14pm On Aug 09, 2011
silly judicial system, its either he is guilty and sentenced or there is no enough evidence to prove he is guilty, and he should be aquitted. Why keep someone for years in jail without judgement? Nonesense system. silly government.

Danni2, as the most powerful security officer in Sanni Abacha`s dictatorship,
Al- Mustapha`s speciality is locking people up without any regard for the rule
of law. He is merely at the recieving end of his own medicine. Payback time.

This is supposed to be a democracy. If they don't have any evidence against him he should just be released. Though the trial has started, the long march to justice has not shone the judiciary in any good light at all. Every passing day it looks more like a vendetta. For goodness sake there were scores of other actors in the theater of Abacha's regime.

Am so happy to hear that some concern Nigerian youth are now calling for the release of a man whom in my opinion is been held for political reason. What is justice in detaining an innocent man for 13years?
