In the face of the country’s 17 million unit housing deficit and the constantly rising cost of building materials,  The Ecobuild Nigeria Team has taken up the challenge of designing a N1m house for low income earners in Nigeria using the Ecobeam building system. The goal is to design a 2 bedroom house that can be built anyway in Nigeria for N1m excluding the cost of land.

While we admit that there are several building technologies in the market today, we have chosen the Ecobeam building system because it is relatively cheap, eco-friendly and easy to use. It also doesn’t require any major equipment to construct and can be deployed anywhere using semi-skilled labour.

We would like to share this unique adventure with you and would like your input in helping us meet this challenge. We welcome your ideas, comments as well as suggestions on how best to go about achieving this task.

What would it take to build a decent N1m house in Nigeria? If Tata could build the $2000 Nano car, what's to stop us from at least trying?

It would appear we have a long journey ahead of us. The figures at the moment are looking at about N1.7 million for a N1br house using the Ecobeam building system. We will keep you posted but would like to hear your thoughts too on the matter. Any ideas?
