Hey Wills

Just stumbled upon this site while searching for "supply chain nigeria" in google funny that i havent seen this section in Nairaland before today.

Anyway I am planning to take the CSCP exams this year in december after which I intend to go ahead and take some course in SAP but the problem right now is that i do no really have much hands on experience with SAP and the firm I wor for uses a customised ERP/SCEM software.

I would be grateful if you or any one could give me the best adice on which SAP course to take and the subsequent certification

Thanks

Hi Supply Chain practitioners,
I have been challenged by a former school classmate to help look up and advise on the state of the Warehouse of his Engineering Company. He is asking that the service be rendered "pro bono".
I have spent most of my career in Supply Chain handling Procurement, though I have also undertaken an oversight responsibility of a Warehouse., In order to avoid disgracing our nascent profession, can I please request that you volunteer ideas and tips on highlights of my audit visit early next week.
Here's thanking you in advance for your anticipated professional camaraderie and espirit de corps.

How may I contribute to this your potential "bomb threatening Forum". I have an avid interest in Supply cahin safety, material handling and loss prevention and seek increasing knowledge. I need to know the nth trainning in this area too. I think u deserve a patent for this nobel ideal-welcome to the information age. we need to think strongly today on vision 2020 and supply chain management
Re: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by olupahpah(m): 8:08pm On Dec 28, 2007
Guys this thread is really very interesting to see. Big up to @wills.

Techie@ it actually depends on what exactly you want to specialise in:
I have SAP SD training and MM.

If you are looking to go into sales and distribution, transportation etc, SD is the right choice for you.
If you are looking at the production side , you could go into Material management.

The funny thing is all these different modules are intertwined so no matter what u do you would have initial knowledge of the other.

Or ultimately u could just go into CRM but for you to effectively master CRM I beleieve you should have a grounding in SD before doing this

hi all, tis wif al pleasure that I have been following this tread. From my research online so far, there are so many organisations involved in certification and online membershiop of the logistics profession but most of them them do not have the flexibility of payment, most of the time, they require you to make ur payment online and u know how stressful that can be. I stumbled upon one particular one, called ISM -Institue for Supply managent,I think they re U.S based and I really wish to be a member in order to get registered for exams & studies but making payment has been my problem. Is there anyone in the house who knows any mode of payment or has the link of a verry good organisation with ease of payment i.e bank transfer.?
Re: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by omooiza(f): 3:18pm On Feb 11, 2008
I agree with u all that Logistics and suplly chain management is quite new in Nigeria.
I just concluded my youth service after a masters in International logistics management. Will love to work and a relevant organization where i can i acquire some skill because i know the classroom is completely different from the real world.

Hello Wills, Mikedeoye and all readers and contributors to this otherwise very informing thread.

I came across this thread sometime late last year.
Never heard of Supply Chain Management before but quite familiar with the terms, Purchasing and Supply.
Having studied Marketing, the last terms were familiar.
But Wills, Mikedeoye et al have done an excellent job here explaining to lay men like me all we needed to know.
I am grateful.

Having gone through this thread from page 1 to page 3, I made up my mind to pursue a certification with CIPS.
But I'm encountering a lot of problems.
First, I'm in Lagos, visiting www.cips.org, I could not register online.
Each time I clicked the online registration link, the page goes blank

Furthermore, there seems to be no test centre in Nigeria.
And no CIPS training centre in Naija.
The closest I came to anything Supply Chain Management in Lagos was Pan African University (or Lagos Business School).
And all they offered was a one week seminar that cost N225,000.00

The anchor of the programme has an MCIPS.
When I approached him and suggested that I needed a guide and perhaps some coaching class towards getting certified in CISP, I didn't get much help.
I was made to understand that I am on my own. That I should sort it out my own way; perhaps online, perhaps by writing them, perhaps by going to the UK.
His reasons are that there is not a significant number of people to form a class even if I can afford to pay for his time.
I don't think he believed that I can afford for his time sad

I have tried the CIPS website again and again but without success.
I have also sent them an e-mail to perhaps send me a hard copy of their application forms.
I am ready to start at the Student level even though I have about three years working experience, though not in the Supply Chain job function.

Can anyone help me please?

I wonder why Nigeria, as big as we are, with our population and enormous potential in the Oil and Gas, Marine, Shipping and Telecoms industries (just to mention a few) does not qualify to be a CIPS test center?

Why are we still in the dark in this country, with so many peeps hungry and eager to develop themselves but very few resources if any?

Can someone please help me find my way around my present constraints?

THANK YOU.

Oga wills,
Thank God for such excellent work u are doing here, i aam sociology graduate but found ,myself in the logistics/supply(documentation) chain territory a few years back.

My experience over the past few years have included opening form, m. letters of credit, marine insurance, and key accounts logistics mgt of a few companies in nigeria on behalf of my company.
Lately i have been involved in supplier relationship management especially with regards to our courier shipments cordinating between suppliers and our freightforwarders to ensure goods are shipped and deliverd to Nigeria.

Along the line i have bben involved in the hs code classification dept, dealing with shipping lines on demuragges and container refunds and of course final exchange documents.

Now! U will see that my experience so far has not really been in core logistics which my own opinion in Nigeria is alot about Port operations, and transportation(delivery of goods to the customer)Can you offer any adivise about how to move forward and acquire a more wholesome knowlegde about logsitics an supply chain.

And please note that i am INTRESTED in the formal networking structure you are trying to put up

hi all, am studying for my MSc in mech engineering , about starting my project in operations management [which envelopes scm, too], could you please, [especially mikeeoye and wills] advice on who i may contact on doing an industry-based understudy in nigeria, especially the oil & gas sector. i want to examine and suggest improvements that a leaner scm function can bring to such outfts. tx
