The Nigerian African Renaissance Party (ARP) on Tuesday urged the Federal Government (FG) to withdraw its recognition for the Libyan rebels’ National Transitional Council (NTC).

ARP National Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Ndu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that it was improper to recognize a group whose aim is to murder Nigerian citizens.

“The FG should take stock of all Nigerians, including other blacks, who have been murdered in Libya and a census of other black Africans, especially Nigerians who are still in Libya. The FG must also sound a note of warning to Libya that it would not take it lightly if anything happened to its citizens again,” Ndu said.

The ARP leader expressed sadness at the reckless killings of Nigerians in the North African country.

“Nigeria must intervene and stop the killing of its citizens by the rebels,” he said. “The government should do everything possible to rescue its citizens and other Africans in Libya.”

Ndu’s remarks came after Foreign Minister Olugbenga Ashiru on Sunday received distress calls from Nigerians who live in Libya, including from their coordinator Mr Daramola Siji, who reported about outright killings, rape and extortion of money from Africans who have taken refuge in camps.

In a reaction on those calls, said: “The government wishes to note with concern reports of incessant abuse of helpless civilians in Libya by some unscrupulous elements who continue to take undue advantage of the ongoing crisis in that country, particularly to carry out attacks on black migrant workers and other black Africans.”

He added that “these extra-judicial killings certainly run contrary to Nigeria’s call for good governance by the National Transitional Council.”

The killing of Nigerians in Libya was also condemned on Sunday by a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Mrs Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa. She called on the government to mount pressure on the Libyan rebels’ National Transitional Council to stop the ongoing genocide against blacks in the country.

Earlier former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo already denounced NATO’s attack on Libya and Libyan leader Gaddafi.

I wonder what's really happening to the blacks over there. No one seems to be tackling that issue. The FG is silent about it. The AU is saying nothing. Everybody says nothing. I wonder what country we are in.

Gutless, directionless, hopeless - those are the adjectives that describe Goodluck Jonathan, nigeria will now go down in history along with other shameless african nations as a black nation that recognised a racist regime which kills nigerian citizens.

People what sense are you all making like so. Why should Nigeria not recognize a legitimate government because people are fighting there? I fully agree that our government should take charge of the situation, demand the prisoners or something but bear in mind that the GON earlier evacuated Nigerians in Libya and also the Rebel forces suffered in the hands of black mercenaries imported from W/Africa. I'm not justifying their detention (I haven't heard any gist about backs being killed), but in truth, black should have made an effort to join the fight with the rebels, if they had done so i doubt they'd have been hunted this way. Right now they must look like free-loaders in the eyes of Libyans.
By the way, WHAT the FLYING SAUSAGE has GEJ got to do with this! PEople borrow brains abeg!
