Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by ektbear: 5:47am On Sep 12, 2011 |
Monday, 12 September 2011 The current administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun is determined to increase the number of industries in Ogun State to about 10,000 in the next four years. The number of companies, which currently is about 1,500, is expected to increase, owing to the creation of a one-stop shop in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks for prospective investors. The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief Bimbo Ashiru, disclosed this during a tour of industries at the Ado Odo-Ota axis of the state. Chief Ashiru maintained that adequate infrastructure had been put in place to assure investors of optimum returns on their investments, urging them to always reciprocate government’s goodwill through prompt payment of their taxes. “The state already has a bad representation of being one of the worst locations to site a business, but the present administration is poised to change that perception through the creation of this one-stop shop for prospective investors in the state,” he stated. http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/28046-ogun-targets-10000-industries |

A worthy goal. |

ekt_bear: Maybe, but they need to brush up on their economics. What is an industry? Seems to be the same as a company in Ogun state. |

Johndoe100: Why not follow the adage : "if you cannot say anything nice don't say anything at all". Lost in translation reportage is a problem in Nigeria. Most sensible people know that the report is probably saying Amosun is targeting increasing the number of Companies operating in Ogun from 1500 to 10,000. That is a very laudable goal indeed considering the prospects for employment, increased revenue for the State and other benefits. @topic. Very good plan. As someone who has been actively involved in doing business in Nigeria , i have seen self-defeatist bureaucratic red tape at every corner actually achieving the opposite of what is desired. I.e chasing away potential investors instead of attracting and encouraging them. This is a very good initiative from Amosun. It shows he understands the problem , is aware of the solution and is determined enough to make decisive efforts that moves away from how things were hitherto done unproductively. The number of companies, which currently is about 1,500, is expected to increase, owing to the creation of a one-stop shop in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks for prospective investors. |

Kudos to Amosun. Ogun has the potentials of Lagos if well managed. I hope he streamlines the companies to major cities because I don't want all sort of people in my village. Some of us still enjoy our peaceful and quiet village life. |

@post cheering news Akanbi_edu: hmmmmm. there is no harm in siting industries in some villages, it will be beneficial to most of the villagers |

This is a very good plan and it is possible especially if the closeness to the congested city of Lagos is well-utilized. The state government must commence a rapidf development of transportation, power and housing infrastructure in order to attract investment. |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by Gbawe: 6:58pm On Sep 12, 2011 |
Pukkah: It is a very good idea. Industrialization , if consistently developed and sustained , aids growth and development. |

I am amazed at how we throw around some names in Nigeria, Target 10,000 industries in a nation where the interest rate on loans cant even be mentioned, in a place where there is no light, no good road to transport the goods and services, and where there is no safety . . . . . However, if they could do it, kudos to them . . . |

This is a realistic plan that is achievable unlike that of the GEJ who promised to provide Airports in all the states of the federation. I wish them the best. |

i will like to have at least 5-10 company out of 10,000 by the Grace of God |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by OAM4J: 5:11am On Sep 14, 2011 |
ekt_bear: It is possible if the infrastructures can be put in place, especially power and transportation (roads/rails). I actually expect Lagos, Ogun and Oyo to focus on trade, commerce and industries, while Osun, Ondo and Ekiti should focus on attracting investments in agriculture and aggro-allied industries |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by ektbear: 6:19am On Sep 14, 2011 |
I don't want agric alone for Ekiti o With electricity and good transportation, we have no competitive disadvantages relative to anyone else in the SW |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by Onlytruth(m): 6:23am On Sep 14, 2011 |
Just wondering how they came up with the number 10,000. What exactly will be produced. I don't like scams. Can someone tell me what will be produced. If he had said "businesses", I would have understood. Tourism alone can create about 25% of that number. 10,000 industries |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by ektbear: 6:28am On Sep 14, 2011 |
^-- Probably the newspaper screwing up. Industry=registered businesses or something, in the terminology of the article's author |

an extra 8500 from where? To do what? Do these our Governors think at all?? Just like that, 10,000 industries. Where is the actual plan of how to atrract them, what sectors are available for investment etc. This our "building castles in the air" method of planning na wa o!! |
Re: Ogun Targets 10,000 Industries by kay10: 9:46am On Sep 14, 2011 |
i think it can work provided the ogun state government can generate or tap direct eletricity from osogbo, osun state |
